  1. Believe me, coaches tried, football and basketball (that'd have been scary to see!) but I was far happier with the video crew cablecasting the games! Now my height seems pretty average and I routinely run into people taller than I am--which feels really weird, people *aren't* taller than me! Damn kids today with their HGH and great nutrition!
  2. I love that the reason the bill was started is that some dipshit lawmaker's web designer used their password to read email! "Hacking."
  3. And yet their actions have so very little to do with the teaching of the Christ they grovel to. Fairy tales are for kids, not living your life by!
  4. Hopefully that police department gets smacked about hard--like that one in Texas that did the gay bar raid not long ago!
  5. How DARE you! According to all Republican sources there is NOTHING wrong with our healthcare system and having every aspect of it be solely profit driven makes it the envy of the WORLD!
  6. I'm thinking this would be a good morning to shop at Penny's and enjoy a coffee at Starbucks!
  7. Also, fuckers are going after Starbucks too!
  8. Here's the article I read on JC Penny's response to the fucking bigots.
  9. This sounds way too reasonable for an industry that routinely sues 12 year olds for tens of thousands of dollars!
  10. I'd read far better news relating to this. JC Penny already responded that they stand with Ellen and there were only something like 25k signatures on the petition...
  11. The TSA, yes. The Air Marshals I have nothing but respect for.
  12. Yep, 35 and sat through probably nearing a hundred games and still don't understand wtf a 'down' is...
  13. None of those things quite do it for me, but will be going to a gathering of mundanes on Sunday anyway, mostly for the social aspects.
  14. Damn it's sad how strongly Michigan shows on that list! There's no helping Flint, but Detroit suburbs kinda surprises me (Warren), many are very nice! And I was under the impresion downtown was getting a little bit of gentrification (even before downtown LA started) and might start to turn around some...
  15. I just had one today, kinda attached to the interface, from Google trying to tell me how I could use Google talk for free phone service throughout the year. A little annoying, but at the same time they have a pretty compelling (and cheap/free) Skype/Vonage alternative available to us all...
  16. New Orleans! Austin didn't bore me until I'd been there!
  17. Was just reading something about how Stephan Colbert's PAC is doing a great job embarrassing them and drawing attention to the politicization that drove the Citizens United travesty.
  18. Romney’s Wife Had $3 Million in Secret Swiss Bank Account Through 2010; Not Reported in Federal Disclosure Forms Remember how peculiar it was that presidential candidate Mitt Romney refused to release his tax returns? That was predictably a non-starter. Most voters probably assume the reason he resisted was to avoid the controversy over his strikingly low tax rate. Another factor appears to have played into this decision. The release of the tax returns shows Romney neglected to disclose some required financial information in his personal disclosure form filed with the Office of Government Ethics last year. His team apparently timed the release of his tax records with the hope that State of the Union hooplah would dominate news coverage and result in his finances getting less attention than they might otherwise. And that appears to been correct. His failure to divulge information about 23 investments, and more important his use of secret Swiss bank accounts, has been given a free pass. As Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington director Melanie Sloan observed, “Mr. Romney says the errors are minor, but then again he also claims earning $374,000 in speaking fees isn’t much money.” (article continues)
  19. I really loved Daily Show's coverage of this an of Romney's "I don't care about the poor". Sadly, he had the balls to go on from that to throwing bombs about all the evil that traitorous Obama's gonna do if not stopped... Damn it Newton, release another SuperPAC documentary of his dirty laundry, something!
  20. The theater at the terminals is especially aggravating since they still don't screen much of checked or especially cargo on those same flights!
  21. On the other hand, the amount and quality of stuff they're providing all of us for free is staggering!
  22. I'd be careful buying DRM-locked books from B&N. If they go the way of Borders they may be even more worthless than other already-read DRM-locked books...

    real telephones

I was just going to suggest Radio Shack! I don't know why anybody goes there, but if they don't have some conventional phones I don't know who would! One interesting option is Panasonic has (cordless) phones that can both plug into a landline and bluetooth connect to your cell. So no chasing through the house to get to your cell in time, just pick up any number of extensions. Sadly no text message capability last I checked though. Fry's?
  24. You're saying the traffic in DFW is good? Not anywhere in the vast sprawl between D and FW! My one experience with medicine in DFW was a high-volume assembly line geared to move through as many medicare patients as possible. The people are friendly but there's also a hell of a lot of closed-mindedness, racism and anti-intellectualism. The weather is reasonable? Bloody hot to bloody cold with stops in between for *massive* thunderstorms, ice storms, snow storms, tornadoes and maybe a plague of locusts? DFW airport is a good resource but ties you to American Airlines a bit. On the other hand, Vegas is a place I like in small doses but can't stand for much longer. Maybe having real money there makes it better, but for me after I'm spent in a week there's nothing to do that doesn't involve spending money and even then most activities require a walk through a bloody casino. What about opening up beyond these possibilities? Austin or San Antonio are very nice, and much less closed-minded. Ok, have no other options for Nevada... but New Orleans is awesome, and has a casino (crappy Harrah's, sure, but it's nice because it's one of a million things to do)... you didn't mention Laughlin, so you're not looking for a place to crawl away and die... so maybe live instead!!! Los Angeles is a lot more affordable now, areas one would never consider before are becoming very interesting possibilities--like downtown. Though taxes and other living expenses are still higher, I'll grant.
  25. Keeping up with Expat is hard!
