You asked me months ago what I would do if Trump won. My first answer is, feel grief. I think I am beyond that phase, though. Unlike your AI, I think rage is appropriate. That may actually be an example of where AI is smart, but emotionally stupid. Rage is often what fuels community activism. Not in Genocide World, of course. My problem with rage is that Black Lives Matter, to use one recent example, sometimes broke and burned shit. Gay men, like me, just talked to people from the heart. That is the main reason why we won same sex marriage and broad acceptance of the LGBTQ community. Which I don't think Trump's relentless attacks on "LGBT activism" will change. If you ever do win same sex marriage in Genocide World, after Genocide Man is gone, I will be the first to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart. But, for now, back to dismal and dark times. There is good news and bad news. The bad news is this is an utter and obvious betrayal of Ukraine, our allies, and the world. Once again, America is selfish and unreliable. I've been anti-war most of my life. The two exceptions were Ukraine and Afghanistan. in both cases, it was self defense. In Afghanistan a terrorist group attacked us and killed Americans. As fucked up as that war was, I have no huge regrets. On an almost caveman level, what it did say is that if you attack us, you will suffer and die. I'd argue there was a net benefit to the whole world in saying that, and making it stick. Seems like the Taliban got the message, and decided we'll pick on girls but leave the rest of the world alone. Same thing in Ukraine. You won't agree, but Genocide Man attacked without case and started a genocide. I have no regrets that the US and EU and much of the world took sides and backed Ukraine. That said, I'll repeat that Milley was probably right. So now I can just go back to my default, which is being anti-war. That's assuming some kind of weak and fragile deal is made. Since the Republicans were the ones that started Iraq, and were most supportive of the US taking whatever we wanted, it is actually nice that Trump at least pretends to be anti-war. I don't believe anything he says, including that. So his Gaza nonsense is no big surprise. But everyone is against that, thankfully. Trump will just focus on taking whatever he wants from Ukraine. As that poll above shows, this is now on Republicans. So we will see where it goes, and how it ends. But Democrats definitely said we oppose genocide, we oppose authoritarianism, and we will back Ukraine's fight for democracy against Genocide Man. In the long run, I think that is the winning side. If I were a New Yorker, I would have voted for Adams. I was behind the curve on a lot of things, like immigration and how toxic it would become. Partly because I live in Palm Springs, which is a relatively calm and quiet place. But by the time Adams ran it was clear that crime and homelessness were really starting to bother people in big cities. I don't know that there are any conclusions to draw from his failure. Other than that he was the wrong guy. But I'd also say this explains how almost all my nieces and nephews feel, who are my guide to "young' voters. It's just a series of bad choices, usually. That's not a good thing. That, to me, explains why Trump won. A lot of young people thought Biden was too old and not delivering. So they voted for Trump, holding their nose. Although Harris came close. What is a good thing is stability, which is why I'd guess Cuomo will win. Two things stand out about him. He was viewed as the guy who could effectively manage COVID, even though NY was hit early and hard. Lots of people I know wished Cuomo was President rather than Trump when things got bad. Two, the name. We know this guy. Warts and all. Which is how Trump's voters feel about him. We know this guy. Lesson to me is Democrats need to stick to our core values, and fight for them.
