Mine sure have. I flew over 50k miles in 2007.Made status in two airlines.Almost all on my own dime and for pleasure. 2008 was a different story Over half of my flights in the first quarter of 2008 were delayed by at least 3 hours-or cancelled.I grew so disgusted that I cut back my flying to the bare bones essential(meaning if it was more than a four hour drive I would fly)and just let my status slip without a thought.My year end tally for severely(more than three hours)or cancelled flights-80% If any other business delivered such an abysimal performance it would be quickly shuttered.Instead these airlines just keep on chugging---and even merging with each other!?! I am now hearing about service cutbacks in two of the hotel chains I have status with.I sleep a lot in hotels-and have often used a more expensive option strictly to maintiain status/earn loyalty points. However-if these chains make deep cuts in service without makeing cuts in prices I have no problem sleeping with cheaper brands.Loyalty programs do go two ways you know, How about you-did you decrease thae amount of travel in 2008-what are your plans for 2009?

I found Phillip Seymore Hoffman's performance to be the weak link in this otherwise terrific film. I am getting more than a little bored with his one note acting-while it is a good note he does need more depth than what I have witnessed from him. I also felt he shaded his charecter a little too strongly towards the "guilty"side. You are supposed to walk out of this with no decession one way or the other-you are just full of doubt. I revisited this movie this past weekend,along with The Reader-two serious films that provide a lot of material for soul searching.

Heard today from a friend in the biz.Turns out his hunky Bf has been whalin on him for a few weeks-landed up in jail this past weekend. I visited the Apple store in the new Mall in Glendale this past weekend with a friend.While I can appriciate Apple and its cult like following(The Simpsons had a great take on this)I'm sorry=this is not worth close to 3x the price of other comperable lap tops IMO. That they still get away with this really is amazing to me. I bought a cute little ASUS for travel SSD,linux based,easy built in wireless access=$350!It weighs less than 2 pounds! Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests: I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing. As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first. But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking. I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. The Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water. I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day: the car isn't washed. the bills aren't paid. there is a warm can of Pepsi sitting on the counter. the flowers don't have enough water, there is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did with the car keys. Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

A couple of highlights from this Christmas in Las Vegas. The new Steve Wynn hotel ENCORE is just gorgeous.Mr. Wynn has set an impossible bar for other las vegas hotels to jump.The details and artwork in this hotel are top notch and the staff is the absolute best in Las Vegas bar none. Le Reve at the Wynn-what an incredible show I liked it much better tha "O" and the tickets are cheaper!Outstanding performances and incredible stagecraft-I leapt to my feet and cheered at the end of the show!

A friend and I went shopping at the Forum shops at Caesars Palace and Barney's at the Venetian in Las Vegas.I have NEVER seen retailers discount the goods so steeply the day after christmas-no 30%-40% nonsense!We are talking 60%-80%The day after Christmas! Granted these are high end merchants for the most part but the bargains were great!I got some $200 ties for$40(Brioni)my friend got a $2,500 cashmere jacket at Zegna For $650! Great time to shop if you have the cash! The malls were packed-but very few real shoppers.

This is a rather personal confession-but one that I know is shared by many of the MERmen.
