The Palace Churrascaria is very good and rather upscale. It's on the street north of the Copacabana Palace.

As a former practicing attorney, my instinct is to defend the guy who is down. I don't believe in piling on when a guy has enough trouble already. The idea that you have to post anonymously because the DA might be reading the blogs- highly unlikely in my opinion- is just a cop out. Either you have the courage of your convictions or you don't. As for these guys who bought drugs and then attack the dealer, well, there but for the grace of God go you. If you had been the one arrested, you'd want support from people, not a free for all of anonymous backstabbing. All said, I am sure that the justice system will deal accordingly with the facts before it. So why all of the extra attempts to dump on Scott, I just don't know.

The New York Times revealed today that the federal government has not punished marijuana smugglers from Mexico as long as they smuggled lass than 500 TONS of marijuana. All at the same time they were going after small time pot smokers.

I am not sure why these websites about Scott come and go, but one thing is consistent with each of them: Anonymous posters. What is it that makes these guys afraid to show their names?

Oz-"Hey, we don't beg for money. We have ads and memberships. The ads vanish with a paid membership. We have to make ends meet someway and I prefer not to ask for donations. I just find that bad taste. " I am not sure if there is much difference in asking for a membership fee or asking for a donation. Either way you are helping the website stay alive. My donation to Daddy amounted to $1 for each month that I have used the website. I am not sure what your membership fee would have been for those months, but I doubt it would be less.

Ty, I laughed the first time I read this, and then again the second time. Let it not be said that we are without humor at MER. On how many websites do we even know who the owner is? For me, it's two, This one and the other one. In the other cases, we don't seem to care who owns the site. But, for some reason, the owner of these sites is much more conspicuous. If I never knew who the owner was, I wouldn't even attempt to help direct the way the site is run. I would just take it or leave it. That's a pretty passive reaction. I wonder if there's a support group for that. For some reason, these community forums have become more personal. Personalities are much more important in the success of the site. Tell me where we find the perfect personality and I will show you a fraud. Just like families, there is constant re-working of relationships, arguments, good times and bad times. We stick them out because we want to participate in the life of the family. Once we decide we don't want to participate, then we stop the effort to improve the relationships. I haven't come to that point. These sites provide me entertainment and often friendship, and until they don't, I'll keep trying to improve them to the extent that I can. Over time I have come to like the owners, both of them. So shoot me if I don't hold grudges (for long!) after a fight.

Four Aces, I won't go so rude s to call your post trash, but you are asking people to do something that you yourself rarely do- and that is to post here. Practice what you preach! The closure was for one day. I don't think anyone suffered from it. It did raise issues, you are right on that, but I think Dadddy went further to answer them than he has before, so I am hopeful, even if I am a sub-bottom!

Lucky replied to TownsendPLocke's topic in The Beer Bar
Thanks for the report. Next to Normal was on my list, but I can cross that off now. I love the location of The Marriott Marquis, the rooms are nice, but the elevator service is tough at important times. -
After a one day closure, Daddy has reopened the message center at his website. Additionally, he apologized to purplekow, explained himself on the Tommy deLuca thread, extended an olive branch to Epigonos, and responded to my commentary by clarifying his policy on showing dick. For me, that's some progress. I was allowed to make my point that I didn't like the closure, and hopefully it will be the last one. I do not expect perfection, but I do admire progress. Both this site and his exist because a sufficient number of us admire escorts. Hopefully, we can now focus on that topic.

You're still using a piggy bank? I threw mine away when the swine flu came along.

"We'll have to see how Daddy handles this but I think he has a job on his hands to reassure the members that he is being even-handed in his hosting functions on the site." It does seem that he is reacting to stresses that are not from the board, as what is happening on the board does not call for such a reaction.
-
You'd be surprised. I don't support closing the message center just because you are grouchy. A lot of people have contributed to the make the message center the success it is and they should not be so lightly disregarded. As for the contributions of money, well, we made our choice to support someone when he said he needed help. I don't think we want to discourage that, even if occasionally a wrong choice is made.

P.S. I dropped by the other site to see what response your expose' about me/MER garnered. It was MIA as far as I could tell. Perhaps not all of your posts are welcome over there? Did anyone have the opportunity to respond before the ax fell? First of all, TY, I appreciate your clarification on attending events with escorts such as the Palm Springs one. Second, we'll be glad to have you at the event. Next year it is on March 27th and 28th. Finally, what is this that you are talking about wherein I am doing some kind of attack on you over in Hooville? If I did say something, I don't remember it. I did come over here and congratulate you on dropping the original Scott Adler thread. I did notice that you are being vilified at the blog on Scott's trial. But where have I started a vendetta against you? Every question I have for you has been posted right here. There is nothing going on at Hooville that I am aware of. You should know by now that if I have a gripe with you I bring it right to you. And we have both expressed our desire that the situation now be left to the courts. (Just as an aside, many of my posts at Hooville fall flat. Many don't. That's life on a message board.)
-
Oz, your response is nicely put. I don't believe that we should abandon people when they are down unless they are engaging in self-destructive behavior which could put one's own situation in jeopardy. I wish Scott hadn't gotten arrested, and I also wish this controversy would all go away. But, until it does...

Lurker Speaks expressed his concern that he attended the Palm Springs event at which Scott Adler also attended. TY responded: Although I have NO first-hand knowledge, based on what I've been told over the years you should avoid all of the gatherings of the type you attended. I have been told that drugs are de rigueur at almost any gathering of boys in the porn and escort industries. It might be prudent to assume that reasons for all of your concers are in full bloom at these gatherings. ***** And what other conclusion can I draw?

Gee, I didn't read through this earlier, so I am surprised to see Tampa Yankee warning people about attending the Palm Springs Hooville Theater Weekend. Since you haven't been, TY, (and you are welcome to come) I would state that in the five years of holding these events these are pretty wholesome affairs. To say that the presence of escorts necessarily means (or even likely means)the presence of drugs is pretty defamatory and surprising to hear from the owner of an escort review website. If this is not what you are saying, I would be happy to hear a clarification. As for the blog on Scott's trial, why is it anonymous? Someone afraid to hold their head high on what they are doing?

If tomcal can stop going to the saunas, world peace is at hand.

If it is refreshing for you, Stu, I am sure someone would be willing to call you an asshole too. Just trying to make an old man happy, you know. This thread is getting the attention it is because some don't want to see a young man's life be made any worse just because old men here get a kick out of it. I am sure that Tampa Yankee is just as happy as I am that the old fights he refers to seem to be a thing of the past, but then a comment like that comes along and one can see how that environment existed.
-
I appreciate that I am welcome over here. Everyone knows who I am and what I believe in. I do not use names that disguise who I am to attack other posters. I am sorry if you felt that I told on you, but you did believe what you said, didn't you? The Scott Adler situation is now out in the open and will be dealt with by the courts. In the meantime, those who take glee in his situation will make their joy known with an endless supply of nasty remarks. Personally, I don't know if he was selling drugs or not. I think Scott is a smart kid who could have a great future if he didn't let himself make big mistakes while young. But he is not the only one here with fault. If he sold drugs, those who bought from him are just as guilty. Rather than take glee in his situation, they should wonder how to get their own lives back together. There was a time when Scott and I were at each other's throats.. As he got to know me, our relationship improved. Maybe someday that will happen with Tampa Yankee too. I am always open to making new friends.
-
"Lucky you remain always welcome even if we sometimes upset you." When Oz says that I tend to believe him. You've had it in for me ever since you named me "asshole of the day" over at Hooboy's. Nice of you to avoid most of the points I raised. Incidentally, I have expressed myself on this over at the other site in case you care to see what I have said.

Who would have believed that Townsend P. Locke and I would be in Grand Rapids at all, not too mention at the same time? Unfortunately for me, he got all the cute boys before I had a chance.

Oh don't get snitty and make it a west coast thing. What if the gossip column announcing this arrest had been Perez Hilton, would you still have gone forward? The fact is that their are court records detailing the charges. No, they do not use Scott's escort name, but the fact is that most of us know his real name. Thus the court records would have met your criteria that the information be published before you let it be written about here. In fact, they are the most accurate records available. I realize that this whole situation has been difficult for you as administrator, but the criterion you have used for allowing it to go forward here just does not make sense. Even if it did, what justifies you using the pictures from the Village Voice? Do they add anything here? Finally, where is the concern for Scott's welfare? Is anyone wishing him well, offering to help him through this, or provide their own experience that might inspire him to rise above the problem? Are we here to take glee in his misfortune or to be saddened that one of our own is in trouble with the law? The fact is that few of us were going to hire Scott, so the information does not really help us make a more informed decision on that. So, I am still wondering why it is posted. Love, Lucky

So now are we free to discuss this issue at length simply because it was published in a New York weekly's gossip column? There are no facts here that we didn't know already, but simply publishing the facts makes it okay? Why was the court record not okay? It said the same thing. I am not defending Scott Adler's behavior, I am simply wondering why we want to now allow those who don't like him to go at it. If Scott publishes the list of his customers, can we talk about that as well? What if I say that an escort directly sold drugs to me, hand to hand, is that up for discussion? It's widely known that drugs are rampant in the gay community, and it follows that escorts probably use drugs, and it also follows that many clients use drugs with escorts. That would make for a more productive subject of conversation than the tale of one escort arrested for the same. Let's not vilify the one who got caught, because that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Surely you jest. Underage boys forced into sexual slavery may encourage you to visit, but most of us would not want to see this thrive.

TY, thanks for making the effort to explain the policy and let readers know why the thread was removed.
