Who can know what really went on in the mind of Herr Doktor? Without a doubt he helped Nazi Germany with their rocket program and used slave labor while doing so. However, what his ideological and political state of mind really was likely can only be known for sure by him. Did he have a complete "change of heart" when he went to work for us? We never would have gone to the moon or certainly not as soon as we did without the group of German rocket scientists who lived in HSV and thought it reminded them of Germany. I think I have made this kind of comment before and that is, when folks have far more money than they can spend for personal well being, no matter my opinion of how wasteful they may seem, it is their money and how they wish to spend it is their business. Of course, this does not include some fairly obvious anti-societal products or processes. No buying animals just to hurt them. No making slaves of humans, regardless of their possible willingness. No poisoning of city water supplies. Etc. OTOH, I am sorry to say that even some folks whose motives I respect sometimes do not seem to spend their money wisely. Here I am thinking of such as the Gates Foundation. But, no one can hit a home run every time at the plate. Best regards, RA1

No doubt that I would purchase a jet within the budget. Many jets take a 1-2 million dollars to operate them for a year. I could save a bit by flying it myself. Not about teachers, but, once I delivered an aircraft to a VW dealer on the outskirts lf PHL. Nice enough guy and our business was conducted above the show room of the dealership. He gave me a VW "racing jacket" which was a sort of "Chutzpah" advert for VW. In those days, any VW would struggle to get to 100 MPH. However, he also paid in cash, something I was not necessarily expecting. It was not a huge sum, I don't remember exactly, but likely 30 something thousand dollars. We parted amicably. Then, he gave me a clean up guy to drive me to PHL. Now, here I was with 36,000 in cash in a pouch with a guy sporting a 3 day beard, in the middle of nowhere, driving me to PHL. Was I a little nervous? Yes. We arrived safely but PHL was under construction for improvements and, being already slightly traumatized, I was not all that happy walking through dimly lit corridors that led to who knows where in the PHL terminal. Everything worked out fine and it was all just a mental reaction to things that were not necessarily what they might have been. Best regards, RA1

When Circuit City was a going concern, their several aircraft were managed and operated by a personal friend of mine on the east coast. Sure, the runway is of vital concern to various to include fashion models as well as pilots. Generally, it is impressed upon students from early on and throughout their careers, that aircraft when landing or taking-off, properly belong on a runway. There are several factors that might influence the pilot's ability to maintain that standard. One being wind, especially cross winds which, by definition, blow across a runway, rather than being lined up with it. Another factor is runways that are wet and otherwise slippery with snow, sleet, ice or just plain old water. With a cross wind, the aircraft might go off the side of a runway, With a slippery runway, the aircraft might go beyond the far end. Neither result is considered acceptable technique. So, yes, runways are critical. Also, it is never a good idea to try to use one when another aircraft is either approaching the same runway or actually already on it. Never mind runways that are too short for the operation intended. Best regards, RA1

Your time is your time. Being able to look back a few years for the thousands of hours flying while on your death bed and realizing you may have died "back then" may not be that much comfort. I knew there was a good reason that I am not on Facebook or Twitter. However, I get a tremendous amount of email advertising something or other. Just like on various sites that I choose to be on, I have learned how to ignore those also. However, I do buy a lot of stuff on line but, almost exclusively, it is from solicited (by me) information or previous exposure.
