As a matter of fact he did work for the CIA. They were looking for non-US citizens to fly military style aircraft in Columbia that were used to eradicate plants from which cocaine was made. At first he US used US pilots but then switched to foreign pilots for what for some may be obvious reasons. One interesting thing about weather such as this "out west" is that cells are seldom embedded, meaning they are not surrounded by other clouds. This makes it a lot easier to circumnavigate them because one can see the beginning and end of the cell with the naked eye. This does not make them any less ferocious. In the Mid-South, we have to depend much more on radar because a huge percentage of level 5's, tornadoes and other "nasties" are embedded. Best regards, RA1

I am sure there are at least a jillion (big number) possible ramifications to that question. However, possibly the most germane one is that our atmosphere has a constant ratio of oxygen in it but the pressure declines with altitude. This makes it more difficult for our red blood cells to have enough oxygen to make us happy with their combination. High altitude residents do not have some "magic" ability to adjust, they simply make more red blood cells. Anyone can do it. Just live at a higher altitude for a few days and nature will take its' course. Alternatively, one can have red blood cells removed at a lower altitude and then reinserted when dwelling for a short time at higher altitudes. Some athletes did this when competing at such venues as Mexico City, etc. A bit extreme but it works. Best regards, RA1

Charlie PSP- Politics aside, if the US capital has to move to LXV (Leadville, CO), the highest public airport in the contiguous US, most of us are in deep trouble (as if we are not now). If everything very much under 9,000 feet MSL is under water, life will indeed be difficult. That is above the tree line so what crops will we have? OTOH, the boondoggling will be reduced. 747's cannot land there. In fact, I think the Sherpa lifestyle will be admired and followed to some great extent. As suggested before, I think they are very sincere in trying to help other folks. Many folks, especially those here in the South, do not believe that money alone can solve very much of anything. Necessary, yes. A complete solution, no. The GF has very kindly set up an education fund with specific goals here in the MEM area. So far as I can tell, it is benefitting a few teachers but few or no students. What I call a complete flop. Spending more and more money on education seems a national tragedy. The students hereabout get $9,000 each spent on them with no real progress is sight. Plus, such as what the GF spends (+ others). In general (not specific to education) I like Paul Tudor Jones' approach to helping others. Lend them money, provide business advice and then, if they don't perform in a "reasonable" amount of time, eliminate their funding. What I call real world help. Best regards, RA1
