Many studies are confusing and this one + commentary is no different. One thing I noticed was that free condoms were offered. I realize it is all but impossible to know if they were used or not but if "everyone" took them and reputedly used them, it would have some bearing on what I thought about this study or its' results. Isn't that sort of like offering penicillin along with a trial drug and then trying to make a determination about the trial drug? Too many unknown factors. Best regards, RA1

Sao Paulo, Brazil 10th Most Expensive City for Expats
RA1 replied to TotallyOz's topic in The Beer Bar
lookin'- I couldn't agree more. I have traveled to Australia and NZ with a friend of mine more than once. He always wants to "Americanize" what he eats as much as possible. I always want to try different things so he would eat at Mickie D's and I would have a hamburger from a street vendor with beet root, a fried egg and funny little sprouts on it. And, of course, I would try absolutely local food at every opportunity. If one wants to just see what various differences are in a foreign land, why not just watch a travelogue? I want to experience what is going on elsewhere. Best regards, RA1 -
I am not walking the streets because I made my monthly mortgage payment. Free is a relative term but I am not presently incarcerated. I am somewhat surprised that you read this in that detail. The info was there but I think the thrust of the story was allowing a prisoner to have access to this filth because he was representing himself. I am sure the old saw will be correct in that he has a fool for a client. This pilot likes young men but not THAT young. Best regards, RA1

No matter who "wins" this debate, I can tell you who the biggest loser will be and that is the middle class tax payers. The whole country could easily be right there also. Very sad. Best regards, RA1

I heard of an interesting diet today that involved imported Mexican river water. Anyone care to try it and report? Best regards, RA1

Thanks for sharing your and your family's experience with a supernatural situation. All of your responses are interesting. One can believe or not believe, but there are "things" out there few if any understand. Thanks for your posts. Best regards, RA1

Generally, the more "natural" the better but weren't there also studies about some of these additives that suggested that humans would have to consume "tons" of them per day to even possibly have the same risks as the rats? It could come down to, who do you trust? Like statistics, studies can be found to support most any position. Certainly, I am not suggesting that anyone go out and see how many products they can eat in one week that contain these additives but keeping our eyes open and considering the various options should be a philosophy worth pursuing. Nice. So summer came on 9 July this year? Best regards, RA1
-
The heat index here today will be 110; strictly caused by humidity. The actual temperature will only be in the mid to high 90's. After all, it is July and REALLY summertime, at least in some places. Some of the perceived discomfort is mental, especially if one is not "forced" to be out of doors. Although I am perfectly willing to admit that heat of over 100 degrees whether the measured temperature or the heat index can be dangerous if not considered for one's activities. Personally, my body (skin) and sinuses react negatively if I am too long in an environment of much less than 50-60% humidity. Therefore, I must live in one of the several places suited to my body. I have no excuse, sir, I have no excuse. Otherwise, poor proof reading or something I learned a long time ago and that is some people are so picky, that the easiest way to deal with them is to "leave" a mistake for them to find. That is a generic comment, not directed at you. Very likely, after compiling my list, I was thinking about what these states had in common, if anything, and wondering what I was "missing". In other words, like most drivers who try to drive and talk or worse at the same time, I was distracted. No excuse is probably the "best" reason. Best regards, RA1

The economy and the price of oil. Those get blamed for everything else, why not for the summer doldrums? Best regards, RA1
-
At first I thought that would not leave very many states but it does include 10. They are scattered all over the country. Maine, Delaware, Virginia, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana,Alabama, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii. 8 of them most likely do not have scorpians. I don't know about NV and UT. None of them have alligators or crocodiles, at least not except possibly in zoos or the like. Any thing might kill you but are the stings of scorpians very often fatal to adult humans? Nonetheless, I take your point or I think I do. Best regards, RA1

As you all know, there is no such thing as a perfect place to live. They all have pluses and minuses. PHX is no exception. It is very nice in the winter and somewhat or even brutally hot in the summer but, with no humidity. I certainly remember when swamp coolers were THE thing and if I lived in PHX now, I would try to use such for cooling purposes. This method uses very little electricity and only a moderate amount of water. Very satisfactory in all regards. I have flown out west during several wind and therefore sand or dust storms. There is very little one can do except live through them and clean up afterwards. They are not particularly dangerous, not fun and not for any who have respiration problems, but otherwise just a nuisance, more or less. These produce limited visibilty for aircraft but, again, are not particularly dangerous, just a nuisance. I would not disregard PHX as a place to live because of possible dust storms. I also would have to consider how I could personally deal with high temperatures but low humidity. That may or may not be a "deal killer". AZ may or may not have political situations that may or may not be of consequence to any individuals. One must just decide for oneself in those matters. Best regards, RA1

I don't remember. The last movie I went to was over 2 years ago. Best regards, RA1

Without actually knowing or having direct experience, I have to agree with marcanthony and his description. There have been many countries to include current day Russia and China that seem to have these kinds of attitudes and they are entirely "scary". I am nervous that Cessna and many other large companies are doing business in China, willy nilly, or so it seems. That is no way to correct the US destruction of manufacuring bases. If our folks are not employed, how can they pay the taxes, fees, etc. that are now on the horizon? Answer: They cannot. The US has a very large economy but it must take the bull by the horns and start to assert ourselves in world diplomacy and business. I do not have any confidence in the current administration or either party to do so, sorry to say. Best regards, RA1

I saw no animals hurt and think it very funny. Exercise is good for all. Best regards, RA1

Thanks for the replies, MSGuy and TY- What do you mean by politics with no coercion? Hasn't politics in the US been squabbling between and among the parties since day one? Isn't that BOTH the bad and good news about politics in the US? If it takes long enough and survives enough criticism, perhaps it will turn out to be as right as possible? No guarantees. Best regards, RA1 There is already talk in Congress to remain in session during the Independence Day holiday. We shall see.

I worked for quite some time without pay as a pilot. That is commonly regarded as a "learning experience" or acquiring hours, the same thing. I loved it then and still do today. As many pilots say today, I get to do what I love doing AND I get paid. Wow. Another saying is, what, leave aviation and get a "real" job; no way. As I have said before, aviation is not a career, a job, a hobby or avocation; it is simply a disease with no cure. I have no intention of retiring and, likely, they will carry me out of a plane in a pine box BUT with the passengers all OK. Best regards, RA1

I think I understand the bits about the facts and constitionality of using the 14th amendment but regardless would not this still allow the House to not fund various or all bills unless and until the debt ceiling issue is "decided"? What am I missing or not considering? Interesting, indeed. Best regards, RA1
