There were gasoline credit cards back then but I think you had to be a property owner to get one; for sure, the credit requirements were steep. Do you remember that with early bank cards, I had a Bank Americard, you had to "explain a reason" why you needed a cash advance. One time I was in PA on a trip and ran out of cash. I needed to go to upstate NY and went into a local bank with my card. I had to see a manager and explain why I needed the money. Traveling and ran out was good enough but still compared to today it was an ordeal. I actually took a taxi to the bank (with no cash in my pocket), told him to wait and got my "loan". My first job was pumping gas but I do not remember offering a 20% discount for cash. I do remember the "ordinary" price of regular being 20-21 cents and high test being 4-5 cents more. The biggest discount I ever remember was about 2 cents for any reason. Best regards, RA1

I am hoping Mitt might be a terrible candidate but much better president as opposed to the above average candidate and terrible president that we have now. But, I am not very favorably impressed by any pol these days. Best regards, RA1

Good for you. Almost all of those "lottery winners" end up unhappy, if not broke. Best regards, RA1

I can remember before "then". Before snack pudding. Before UHF (the loop antenna) and when we only had one channel and the one "national network" for it was NBC. By freezer, do you mean the "cold" part of the refrigerator? Yes, that needed defrosting on a regular basis. Also "church keys" which were used to punch holes in such as beer cans which did not have caps. AMC, the successor to Nash, George Romney was CEO, the father of Mitt. I also remember 6 ounce bottles of Coke as well as 10 ounce bottles of Pepsi, the Hudson Hornet, the Nash Ambassador and many, many more. None of that makes me necessarily nostaligic for same (some yes and some no) but I do remember them. Best regards, RA1 The rabbit ears were for VHF.

Just remember, the "new" 70 is the old "50" and so on, so this 83 year old is merely an "advancing" middle-ager now. He is entitled to his fun and, no doubt, can pay for it. Best regards, RA1

I also am remaining at home but "only" because I have no flying to do today, not because of the day/date. I will catch up on my email, annoy some friends with "new" email, watch the military channel and then some baseball and eventually just collapse into bed. I am NOT hiding under my bed. In the past, I might have liked to have done so but I then had a water bed and there was NO under it. Perhaps that taught me to "get over it". Best regards, RA1

MsGuy- You are doing your very best to persuade a "non-client" to do what is in his best interest. Your efforts are both realistic and humorous. I would like to think "most" of the posters herein are intelligent and able to decide what is in their best interests. I think you have pointed out at least twice what is appropriate here. And, I appreciate it. If I were to win the lottery I would surely seek your advice. Best regards, RA1

Additonally, I have sent emails to radio programs that state, an update in less than 30 minutes. I have no problem with less than one half an hour or fewer than 30 minutes but I DO have a problem with their "ordinary" statement. So far, they have not responded OR changed their rhetoric. Best regards, RA1

My favorite is the grocery line that states "less than 10 items". I have "too often" used a magic marker to "change" those signs to read, " fewer than 10 items". Now, it seems that I have a reputation among grocers and family members for these feats. Best regards, RA1

The 1957 Fury would "snap your head back" and no doubt yours would also. If you still owned the Beetle, it would be worth more now that whatever you paid for it. Good report. Best regards, RA1

Because I remember all those cars when they were new, does that make me a classic American? Best regards, RA1

I agree. So far, I am done with vodka, especially Dark Eyes vodka. Best regards, RA1

Regardless, lurker, keep trying until you find one that "works for you". It is important. Best regards, RA1

I enjoyed this video but also the "other" one. I could not help but think of Edward R. Murrow when viewing MW with his "attitude" and lit cigarette. Best regards, RA1

He certainly is not the first athlete, pro or amateur, to pray on the playing field and, hopefully, not the last. However, I wonder how Georgetown, TX came into the picture. I have been to this town several times and never noticed anything "special" about it. It is a town, not a city. To gather 15,000 folks, they had to come from miles around, not unusual for west Texas or many places in the further west, but, again, why GTU? Best regards, RA1

Those are interesting photos but except for a name here and there of typical CA places, they could be anywhere. That doesn't really matter but you will never see a mountain in the background with a picture of downtown Memphis, for instance (unless it is photo shopped). Best regards, RA1

I hope so also but it will, unfortunately, be a rare exception if she does. Best regards, RA1

I am hoping that most Christians can be "recovering Christians" in the sense of "allowing and appreciating others". That hope may be above and beyond but it IS my hope. Best regards, RA1

They say that bread is the staff of life but actually it is ignorance. Best regards, RA1 -
I have enjoyed Mike Wallace throughout his career and, obviously, his stint on 60 Minutes. I did not always agree with him but I always respected him. I would like to think he would agree that respect is more important than agreement. RIP, Mr. Wallace. Best regards, RA1

Much of the above sounds wonderful except for two things: WHO is going to pay for it and HOW are they going to do so? All the conversation about what is included and no limits does not explain at all how those "benefits" will be paid for. Saying the taxpayers is naive and, if it is the policy holders, who can afford the vastly increased premiums likely to ensue? The taxpayers already pay for those things for those without insurance. This will only increase the cost of medical services delivered. A "secondary" issue is who will be able to provide those services? Docs can only work so many hours per day and offering possibly less money will not be an incentive for them to do anything except look for other occupations or so it seems to me. Best regards, RA1

Absolutely. It should be supplied with a handy carrying case. Like a laptop, it will have to be taken out of your other carry-on luggage for separate inspection by the TSA. Of course, you could check it in your checked luggage or not ride the airlines. Best regards, RA1

I think it is more likely that something will happen if you don't use the CPAP than if you do. Probably the most serious possible symptom of sleep apnea is the cessation of breathing while asleep which the CPAP machine prevents. Maybe you don't need to sleep. Just lay there with the machine and mask on for 8-9 hours and see if you don't rest more. Best regards, RA1

Hasn't he been called mittens by many since the campaign began? I suppose Mr. Mittens is a bit different. Best regards, RA1

Charlie- You don't think that is a 1959 Imperial? Just wondering. Best regards, RA1
