  1. There isn't much to say at this point other than I am appalled but not surprised. Otherwise I think we have to wait upon further disclosures/developments. Do you get your Guardian delivered by US Air directly from LHR? Best regards, RA1 That is Heathrow, London, UK.
  2. Perhaps she was a futurist. She didn't live to see the 19th amendment passed. However, she was arrested for voting a straight Republican ticket. Something some others think should be universal. However, more likely, she was arrested simply for voting. The dollar coins minted in her honor have never taken off although I find them potentially very useful. But, then I have spent an inordinate amount of time with no food other than from vending machines. Best regards, RA1
  3. Was she a Calvinist? Best regards, RA1
  4. I going to start by remembering an actor that I was fond of who went ashore on D Day (and lost a finger + being otherwise wounded more than once). James Doohan aka Scotty. His cremains might still be in orbit. Best regards, RA1
  5. As noted previously, sometimes fact and fiction are very closely related. The WH did put out a report that all was OK with collecting phone records. Of course, neither the WH nor other "real" news sources mentioned caller's names, etc. Thanks for the clarification although my comment largely remains the same. Best regards, RA1
  6. Sorry, but I am not persuaded. BO's administration has had a LOT of secrets and by far most of them are not released or transparent. The early and often promised transparency just has not happened. Best regards, RA1
  7. I think you misspelled "thar". Of course, I recognize that Google is the genesis but you still have to exercise your fingers. Still, I recognize the time and effort. Best regards, RA1
  8. How do you find the time to find this stuff? Not that I am ungrateful for I am. I suppose you could just while away your time finding pictures of naked guys but what good what that be? Best regards, RA1

    Time To Move On

wayout- We KNOW what kind of activities he likes. The question is what else does he want? Early in my career I spent a lot of time in CMH (Columbus) + a fair amount of time in AKR. Goodyear had a large plant at AKR which installed de-ice equipment (mainly wing and leading edge surface rubber boots) and they were located in a blimp hangar. A blimp hangar is interesting for its' shape, if nothing else. All good times. Best regards, RA1
  10. AND, there are so many more choices. Best regards, RA1
  11. I think this is very close to the truth but then comic commentary at its' best always is. Best regards, RA1
  12. The last 3 are too close to home for comment. Best regards, RA1

    Time To Move On

Do you know why you want to move (other than wanderlust)? Just a change of scenery? Change of acquaintances? Change of climate? Austin is going to be pretty hot if you are not "ready" for that. From what you have said about your personal life, RNO may not be a good choice. What do you mean by NE Ohio? CLE? Somewhere near Lake Erie? Somewhere near the rubber capital? (AKR). Here is pretty close to the "secondary" rust belt of America and may be good but I think you need a reason for it to be good. I have no specific recommendations, but I might if you answered my questions. CLE = Cleveland AKR = Akron RNO = Reno Best regards, RA1
  14. I am a privacy advocate but from their actions if not their sentiments I am willing to surmise that the general US public is not. Or, perhaps they are just not considering what they are doing and the various consequences. I support my claim by the widespread use of facebook and other "social media". At first all this was seemingly completely innocent; friends keeping up with friends, but many now know that almost anyone can know all too much about one's life. I have never understood this phenomenon but then I have never sent "Christmas letters" and the like to friends and family. Regardless of what private citizens do, the government has no right to usurp what many believe to be Constitutional rights. Eventually, the Patriot Act may be and should be found to be illegal or unconstitutional. Best regards, RA1
  15. I prefer for my salmon to be good for my skin from the inside out. Best regards, RA1

    Deja vu

I may be conservative but not THAT conservative. I blame TR for promoting the Japanese out of their isolationism leading to a LOT of trouble in the early 1900's and for many years thereafter. WW, not so much. BTW, I love dawn patrol. The air is usually clear and crisp. The heat of the day has not yet produced a lot of bumps and thunderstorms. The only consistent problem is that for some reason we usually go east (ward) in the mornings and, obviously westward in the afternoons. That results in the sun being in our eyes coming and going. Of course, I don't open my eyes all that much so it doesn't bother me as much now as it used to. Mustn't forget. Curse you Red Baron! Best regards, RA1
  17. Camp followers are historical since the beginning of time. But, you confuse me. Which was it? A general protest or one by the rank and file? Best regards, RA1
  18. An interesting perspective but likely inevitable. To over generalize (no pun intended), after WWii, the US was the only super power, then one of two, now one among lesser equals (at least nuclear power wise and economically, sort of). As the only super power, the "ravished" world looked to us to at least restore and maintain order and was somewhat grateful for foreign aid. Then they gradually "expected" it with little to no cost to them and now they are sometimes contemptuous of whatever we do. The bottom line is some expect us to do much more and some much less. Where is the happy medium? Nowhere, it is a figment. I used to blame both sides of the situation, meaning those who wanted more and those who wanted less, but I now feel the attitude and morality of the US has changed significantly in that citizens now want both more and less from the same US government. So, now I blame everyone. Best regards, RA1
  19. Thanks for providing text, context and pictures; not just a link. The US military was using the same "training films" 25 years later (with the same results). Best regards, RA1
  20. Here is a prime example of what I just wrote in another thread. Why was a UK paper the first to break this story? Answer: Because our papers are not doing their jobs. How many more freedoms shall we give up before realizing what is happening and taking the Congress and Executive branch to task? I fear this will not happen. Best regards, RA1
  21. Please don't confuse me with someone who thinks the Republicans are "real" conservatives anymore than Democrats are "real" liberals. They are all pols. Another interesting thing (to me) is that the foreign press is doing a much better job of reporting and following up on many US problems, political, economic and otherwise. Shame on our fourth estate. Best regards, RA1
  22. Guilty as charged, your honor. Best regards, RA1
  23. At first I thought you were going for Kemo Sabe to include Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore as you know who. They may have engaged in foreign culture but likely not Japanese. So, what lesson are we preparing to teach? I only watched a few minutes here and there of BL; were there any spin-offs? I think some of the spin-offs that have Japanese exec.'s trembling are the ones involving Toyota, Lexus and others. Best regards, RA1
  24. LA Law vs. all the spinoffs? Best regards, RA1
  25. Yes, but I always thought that referred to the mammaries. Somewhat similar activity, different locale. Best regards, RA1
