As wayout says, being aware is always a good thing. As he also says, being paranoid is counter productive. I have been "lucky" in that most of the time I have had locals to meet me when I arrived and show me around. Nothing like being shown Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Hyde Park and many other London sites by a local, even if it was all over in 30 minutes. Ditto, the Matterhorn from 14,000 feet in a pressurized aircraft. Being alert and aware is NOT the same as being paranoid, or so I think. Best regards, RA1

I never know what lists such as this really might mean, other than be careful when in big cities. I have been to every one of those cities and live in one. My motto has always been, keep moving. When one tarries too long in one spot, one increases the likelihood of being "attacked" or whatever. Therefore, if one likes to go to many different bars and many different localities for fun and recreation, likely this increases one's personal liability. NP, if that is your choice, just be aware of what you are doing. Best regards, RA1

LOL NP, so long as the Thais do not observe the same rules as the IRS, namely, if you report someone, you also get audited. Best regards, RA1

As a Griz fan I might be accused of rooting for the MIA Heat but I am tired of their BS so I am rooting for the Western Conference champs to win. In a way, I like the "all stars" of the Heat but I don't like their arrogance. So, go Spurs. Best regards, RA1

There are plenty of weird laws still on the books virtually everywhere but some of these either have historical context or some sensical reasoning behind them. We have several posters who have spent a lot of time in Thailand so I shall not try to usurp what they can tell us but I think it is likely that the Thai currency has a likeness of the king on it and "impolite" references to him seem to carry a penalty under law. Singapore has very stringent anti-littering laws so why not Thailand? And, last but not least, any kind of clothing not only promotes "modesty" but also protects one largest organ (the skin) from UV rays, chaffing and various other indignities we dumb humans perpetrate upon ourselves. Now if I can just get my neighbor to run ahead of his car with a light to warn us of his comings and goings he wouldn't scare my cows. Best regards, RA1

This ruling mystifies me also. Our education system sucks, but that is for further and later discussion. Keep trying to help "others". Best regards, RA1

Just Google C-17 lands at Peter O'Knight airport and you will get several versions to include not only the landing but the subsequent take-off after off loading cargo and changing crew. I do not believe the crew will be dealt any punishment other than a good ass chewing. Reputedly the crew had been on a very long duty day and had come from Europe. The runway at O'Knight lines up very well with the one at MacDill and when being radar vectored for the approach, saw the runway at O'Knight and landed. It is by far not the first time this kind of thing has happened. Best regards, RA1

So, first you have to be alert and ready to invoke your fifth amendment rights so that the questioning authorities can decide to arrest you, read to you your Miranda rights and then go get you an attorney (if you request one). Wow, talk about a slippery slope or tight rope. I am willing to bet most police don't understand this or the legal theory behind it. Best regards, RA1

At first I thought you were talking about hito. Best regards, RA1

Being lonely is an attitude. Sure everyone would like to have contract with friends and family periodically but there is no reason to be totally inconsolable when traveling and that does not mean hiring or going to bars every night. There are plenty of people to interact with everywhere I have been. The best way to find friendly folks is to be friendly. Best regards, RA1

I have some guys who started shaving at 8 years old. I have known some guys who would have to be described as addicted to sex. But, I have never known a guy who I thought was masturbating as a 15 week old fetus. Best regards, RA1

I "fear" a lot of things, this being high on the list. It is no doubt inevitable but we are becoming more and more dependent upon technology for even the most mundane parts of our existence. How did we survive without and before air-conditioning, TV, the internet, Cher, etc.? I fear the government just shutting down the internet during a real or imagined "crisis". I fear our over reliance on GPS. A lot of young pilots out there couldn't find the ground without GPS (until they ran out of gas). During a road trip, wives are unable to fuss at their husbands, because the husbands actually know where they are and how to proceed courtesy of the GPS. This is bound to cause more dissension among married folks. We all know spouses prefer to grouse. Best regards, RA1

The B-52 is an amazing aircraft. It has been in service for over 60 years now and is being flown by pilots who were not born when it went into service. Some of it "looks" dated but it has been thoroughly upgraded at least twice and will continue in service for probably another 20+ years. Nothing built since comes close to matching what it can do and the price just gets better. I assume you are referring to MacDill AFB. Have you seen the video of the C-17 "mistakenly" landing at Peter O'Knight airport? Pretty amazing. Best regards, RA1

LOL. I have seen some gnats more persistent than others so I hope there are some very pesky ones out there. Best regards, RA1

At least you are worrying about some of the obvious attacks on our freedoms. I hope you are correct about not worrying about others. Best regards, RA1

My main point in starting this thread was to point out that BO's "biggest" support of US businesses was such as the "negative" reaction to the real or perceived threat to citizens owning small arms. Certainly our liberties are at risk, not only from BO but the pols which actually means the voters electing them. Why does the TSA or, especially, the IRS need heavy weapons? So far as I know the TSA has not fired one shot in anger and I see little to no need for the IRS to have AR-15 rifles. Do 70,000 agents need 100 million rounds for any reason? That is over 1,400 rounds each. I doubt that we can come to a resolution here. You see these actions as business as usual and I see them as attacks on civil liberties (which seems to be "business as usual"). Best regards, RA1

What good is money if you have been "terminated"? I have had this discussion with a number of wealthy folks and they tend to agree that money will not buy safety and I think this is especially true if a federal government is after you. Political favor has some chance but, like you, I see little evidence of this. Best regards, RA1

I was surprised that Snowden went to Hong Kong and I, at first, thought it was to avoid or delay extradition which is still somewhat possible. As we all know, Hong Kong was a British Colony until 1999 and China still treats it far differently than it does its' own mainland. So, in a way and by comparison, it does offer more "freedom" than mainland China. Calling him a spy for China may be a smoke screen to besmirch his character. Who knows? So long as this story is front page or near front page news, likely we will learn more but also likely there will be more smoke. Best regards, RA1

LOL. I have no thoughts of killing anyone and I wish everyone could have enough food, housing and health care. But, as you mention (indirectly) who can and should pay for it all? I am very willing to do my share but please don't just take it from me. Thanks. Best regards, RA1
