Things have been fine for me lately. There was one time when I asked if a bar that had rent guys also had cubicles or someplace private to go and I got an incredible over-reaction basically calling me an idiot for even thinking for such a thing. There was so much anger in the reply it startled me. I don't think accepting that kind of crap should be the price of admission to be gay and it's sad some people think it is.

efficient way to learn Portuguese?
xpaulo replied to babybear2's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I've been learning Spanish on Duolingo, it's actually much better than taking lessons in a class. Actually talking to somebody in Spanish would still be extremely difficult since I'll have trouble processing what they're saying. But it will be helpful for sure. Somebody on here will know what's best for Brazil. Knowing how to pronounce the word for bus station for instance would be a big help as I found on my visits to Brazil. -
Summer trip set, Colombia + Brazil

Ha, ha that sounds like the one. It was like one of those super high end stores that only have a few items out for display, but they're all exquisite. The few guys there were exquisite, but I'd much be rather be with a hairy young mechanic. -
Gosh, I stayed at the Malaysia about 15 years ago. It was outdated then but I expect the rooms have been renovated. It felt pretty decadent with the escorts coming and going and sexy young fellows laying around the pool. The story then was it was built for American soldiers on R and R from the war in Vietnam. I enjoyed the thought of all those young soldiers having wild orgies there. But I saw a post, maybe on these forums, that tourist families have started staying there, that would feel odd.

https://edmonton.citynews.ca/2022/06/26/sundre-parade-float-racist/ This happened in Canada this weekend. A racist float in a rodeo parade in the heartland of Conservative party support. I post it here because these are the same people who tear down rainbow flags and deface rainbow street crosswalks by peeling out with their trucks. Those kinds of incidents have been on the rise and I believe are an offshoot of the anti-vaccine movement which has given these creeps a newfound boldness. The Conservative party, which says it's not racist or homophobic anymore and won't revoke a women's right to choose, is still as right wing Christian and redneck as it's even been. But the Liberals have been lurching from one political disaster to another all through their own incompetence and will probably lose the next election to the Conservatives who are about to elect a new leader who appears to be crazy and not in a good way. And so while many say the United States can't happen here, it can.

That's exactly how I felt about LA, but I didn't really try either. San Francisco for me is so much better, it's much easier to have short conversations with strangers including locals.... and the staff in stores, etc, remain cheerful and outgoing even with the onslaught of tourists.

I guess I was more pointing out that to me it seemed that Mexicans were an exception from what's more typical of people not being patient with foreigners. Even though Canadians have a reputation for politeness, where I live they can lose it when somebody can't speak English well enough to understand or be understood. And in some other Spanish speaking countries people haven't been rude to me, it was me who was being inconsiderate by trying to speak a language I couldn't speak. Also, I have never been to Colombia so I'm not sure how my comment was taken as criticism of Colombians. Colombians I have met in other parts of Latin America have helped me in situations and have always been polite.

Unlike other places, people in Mexico were unfailingly polite and patient with my excruciating attempts to speak Spanish.

My last shot was grade 8 which was 1972. Interesting. I remember it because I had a reaction and had to spend a night in quarantine in a hospital room.

Ha, ha, there was a doctor on TV saying there would be some people in Canada still alive who received the full course of smallpox vaccination when they were kids and may be protected from monkey pox. Actually anybody over 60, maybe younger, received the full course, I don't know exactly when it stopped.

Summer trip set, Colombia + Brazil
xpaulo replied to endlessdream's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I've been to Belo twice, once for one of the World Cup games. It's laid back and feels safer than some of the other bigger cities, but I have no proof for that. I had good times at a couple of the saunas, one was pretty scuzzy and there were some genuine thugs, but they didn't seem dangerous in that context. It was the only time in my life I truly felt like somebody's bitch. I can't remember the name of the other one I went to, but it had a pleasant bar in the basement with some shows and lots of good looking guys. There was a third one I went to that was very modern looking and clean and and expensive and had a few muscular male model types, but no fun at all. -

I'll be interested in hearing about Cali if you decide to make a report. I've so many hot guys online from Cali. But it's on the, you should definitely not go there, list issued by the Canadian government, although they seem to apply that to many places in the world... classic butt covering maybe. -
Absolutely, a cop in the small Canadian city where I live told me it could get by with two police officers (instead of 30) if it wasn't for alcohol. This is the case in many smaller communities in Canada where almost all of the police activity is related to alcohol. The question now is whether legal pot will replace alcohol over time and will crime and police calls go down.

Online Escorts (Garoto) in Brazil
xpaulo replied to seaeric's topic in Latin America Men and Destinations
I saw in a Brazilian and a Colombian escort site that the guys include which debit/credit cards they accept. Is it a given that they take cash, or is it cards only. -

There are many amateur/non amateur brazilian porn sites on www.xvideo now, most of the guys won't be as pretty or muscular as regular porn sites, but you might get a better idea of what would be like to spend some time with. The other issue is identity. There won't necessarily be an obvious way to get their name or stage name if they have one or contact info. -
You're quite right, but the airlines/airports see an opportunity to pressure the government to ditch the rest of the mandates/covid rules, plus escape public anger. And in terms of the mandates, etc, they're not doing much good anymore. People are packing into sports venues, bars, etc and not wearing masks, so it's hard to see what the point of the air travel covid rules are and they do inconvenience travellers.

We have a lot of problems with air travel in Canada right now, short staff, delayed flights, long lineups, at least in Toronto, which is all that matters for the national media. The airlines are blaming it on the vaccine mandates which are still in force in on domestic and international flights. I think a lack of baggage handlers is a bigger problem since it affects connecting flights, but the airlines want to shift the blame onto the government.

I realized the last time I was at Aquarius in Istanbul the guys share quite a bit about the clients among themselves. Not in a bad way from what I saw... but a guy who hadn't been there the day before knew who I had been with the day before. And the one classically handsome muscled guy I was with clearly knew what I had the paid the others and was offended I paid him the same. Actually the opposite was more the truth. I prefer the regular looking guys.. they're usually more fun too.

That's fine, but I think they should say if it's because they want to decide if you're attractive enough. That's fine too, it's how the customer picks them. But I'd like to know if that's what it's for.

This glass shower in the room has become a thing I think. I first saw it in a room in a new hotel in Vienna, with a full view, and was glad I wasn't sharing a room with my mother or sister. A couple of years later I noticed they had frosted the lower part... customer complaints no doubt. Same type shower in a nice hotel in Spain. As an aside I think western Europeans are much more comfortable about separating nudity from sex. Body type doesn't seem so important there either.

Thailand reopening, some observations, ups and downs
xpaulo replied to Jimbillp's topic in Gay Thailand
Canada was working on a deal before the vaccine was ready to buy the Chinese vaccine, but then the rulers got mad at the Canadian government for something, there's always something, and walked away from the negotiations..... thank goodness. -
Hi, I'm hoping you can help me out with something I've wondered about for years. It's about a trip I took in Vietnam. It included a motorcycle tour I took out of Dalat into the rural central part of the country. I was riding with a Vietnamese guide. We stopped at pullover on a back country road, there were two couples also on motorbikes parked there. The guide and the couples chatted, partly about me I think., Then one of the men walked over and held out his hand, when I responded he grabbed my hand, and with his other hand lightly rubbed my forearm back and forth and then walked back to his friends. I think I asked the guide what that was about, but he didn't answer. Would it have been to feel the hair that was on my arm, it is hairy. It was a wonderful trip. I saw so many foods that we buy in Canada, but never see growing.. ie rice, coffee, black pepper, cashew nuts and others. The local people were great.

I don't ever ask the guys about their work, but a few have mentioned that some of their customers are horrible and make ridiculous demands. They don't understand it and I don't either. When a beautiful young man lets me have a wonderful experience, I'm so grateful because it sure wasn't wonderful for him.

The Canadian media has reported a mechanic discovered the drugs. That sounds like a local hire, so I don't see how that exonerates the crew as the pilots association is claiming. It was a small private charter and so warning travellers to stay away from the DR seems to be overblown since it wouldn't apply to the vast majority of tourists and airline crews. And it's not just a DR thing. Two Canadian men couldn't leave Cuba for seven months a few years ago after being accused of sexual assault by another Canadian and were eventually acquitted. It's one of the risks, albeit small, of travelling.
