I did the helicopter ride twice while in Rio, and had a magnificent time. In the clip I saw that lovely hotel and its magnificent grounds. Stayed there for three days & nights, but it would have been more lovely if I had had a friend or partner traveling with me. The nights were not too interesting. ...walked to the falls on the Brasilian side and enjoyed immensely. The next day I went to the falls that were on the Argentine side and met a couple (man and wife) who encouraged me to travel to Salvador, Bahia. Fortunately, that city was on my itinerary. I went and returned the next year.

If you go to Foz du Iguacu, take someone with you. Although I had a pleasant time visiting the area and doing a lot while at the falls from both sides, it was not as much fun during the evenings. I'd also return to Salvador (Bahia) and take a couple or more tours with the superb and well-respected tour guide Fernando who's written up rather, rather well at TripAdvisor. The guide who I had was Fernando's mentor, and when I wrote to him on Facebook, he mentioned what I mentioned. Both men are professional and just grand. ...never met Fernando personally but did recommend him to two of my friends who did use his services and was mighty delighted, Do the Amazon area. At the time of my almost month's travel during the early 2000s, I had a gay travel agent in Rio (now unfortunately deceased). He planned a superb four days for me from my posada, a gorgeous day guide who stayed on the premises with his manager mother, and everything. I only had to arrive; everything else was taken care of; a time that I shall always remember. To date I can't remember particulars and to name of lodging. To answer your initial query, a month is not too long as long as you have planned prior to arrival. I would not stay in any place w/o some sort of security, especially if I don't know the landscape or much about the city where I am. But, the decision is yours... Perhaps you could post and ask the veterans what they'd do if they were in your shoes. ...no security. ...no auto. language facility? etc.

I went to some museums, a good restaurant or two, and took a tour via a small vehicle and enjoyed immensely. But all this happened some 10+ years ago. Unfortunately, in November 2023, I am unable to cite specifics. Also, there were no visible homeless folk when I was there; it's a relatively smallish city; thus I got around. Do a goggle check for museums and restaurants. As far as cruising places go, I can't respond.
