From The Thaiger A Burmese woman and her three daughters became victims of a violent assaultby a group of more than 10 teenage ladyboys at a fruit festival at a public park in the eastern province of Trat on Saturday, May 25. The Burmese woman, 43 year old Mo, filed a complaint against the transgender teenagers and handed over a video of the assault, which she received from a witness, to the police as evidence. Mo’s three daughters, aged 17, 14, and 6, were injured in the incident. Mo explained that she took her daughters to the fruit event and encountered a group of more than 10 teenage ladyboys there. The group began to verbally harass them using offensive language. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with the group launching a gang attack on the mother and her children. Fortunately, witnesses at the scene intervened to stop the assault and immediately notified Borrai Police Station officers and rescuers. The four Burmese victims were transported to a nearby hospital. The 17 year old daughter of the woman, Ruay, sustained the most severe injuries in the attack, suffering multiple bruises and wounds across her face and body, with her left eye particularly swollen. The other victims suffered only minor injuries.

From National News Bureau of Thailand Muay Thai is set to be showcased at the Olympic Park in Paris, France, from July 26 to August 11, as part of a cultural demonstration alongside the Summer Olympics. The display is a major step toward Muay Thai’s potential inclusion as an Olympic sport in the future. KPI, in cooperation with the Office for the Promotion of People’s Politics and the Centre for the Development of People’s Politics, conducted an opinion survey on political parties and potential prime ministers one year after last year’s May 14th general election. 1,620 people across the country were interviewed. One of the questions asked was: “If there is an election in the next couple of days, from which parties would you elect constituency MPs? The poll shows 35.7% of the respondents say they will vote for candidates from the Move Forward party, 18.1% say the Pheu Thai party, 11.2% the Bhumjaithai party, 9.2% from United Thai Nation party, 7.8% from Palang Pracharath party, 5% from the Democrat party, 1.6% from the Chart Thai Pattana party and 1.2% from the Prachachart party. 10.2% were undecided. The next question was: “From which parties would you want to elect party-list MPs? The poll shows 44.9% say they will vote for Move Forward candidates, 20.2% for Pheu Thai candidates, 10.9% for United Thai Nation candidates, 3.5% for Bhumjaithai candidates, 3% for Democrat candidates, 1.3% for Prachachart candidates and 0.7% for Chart Thai Pattana candidates. Based on these responses, combining the election of constituency and party-list MPs, the Move Forward party would win 208 seats in the House, followed by 105 for Pheu Thai, 61 for Bhumjaithai, 34 for United Thai Nation, 30 for Palang Pracharath, 22 seats for the Democrats, 10 for Chart Thai Pattana and 9 for Prachachart. When asked who they want to be the next prime minister, the poll shows 46.9% said Pita, followed by 17.7% for General Prayut Chan-o-cha, 10.5% for Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra, 8.7% for Srettha Thavisin, 3.3% for Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul, 1.7% for Jurin Laksanawisit of Democrat party and 0.4% for General Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of Palang Pracharath party.

From The Nation The three-phase development plan for Don Mueang International Airport, which includes the construction of a new terminal, would expand capacity to accommodate 50 million passengers a year, Kerati Kijmanawat, president of Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT), said. The 36.829-billion-baht project is one of the key initiatives of AOT to enhance the airport's capacity for domestic and international travel and transport, in line with the Don Mueang Airport Master Plan, he said. Phase 1 will increase Don Mueang Airport’s capacity to accommodate 18.5 million passengers per year by upgrading existing infrastructure and facilities. In phase 2, the airport would be expanded to handle 30 million passengers per year by further developing the infrastructure and facilities established in Phase 1. Phase 3 would further enhance the airport's capability to handle the growing number of domestic and international passengers, enabling it to support an average of 50 flights per hour, he said. Kerati is set to preside over the second public hearing on the surveys and designs for the Don Mueang Airport Development Project Phase 3 on May 28. The goal is to complete the project details and open the bidding process by early 2025, he said. As per the initial plan, AOT would expedite the construction of the first part of the project, which is a new passenger terminal, known as Terminal 3, to accommodate international passengers, he said. This new terminal will add approximately 140,000 square metres of space. Construction is expected to begin in 2025, with an estimated completion time of three years, and the terminal is projected to be operational by. 2028.

The organisation of pride activities is in line with the government’s plan of making Thailand a tourist destination with world-class festivals and events under the Ignite Thailand initiative. Analysts estimate that the rainbow economy, revolving around gender diverse people, could generate up to 230 billion baht revenue per year, thanks to members of LGBTQIAN+ groups who have around 40% more purchasing power than average tourists. Thanks to the recently approved equal marriage bill, Thailand now has the potential to become Asia’s largest pride destination and landmark, and the fourth biggest in the world, especially if the kingdom is selected to host the World Pride 2030 event, said experts. Riding on this trend, operators of major shopping centres are planning pride-related events across June to attract visitors to Bangkok and other provinces where pride activities will be hosted. Central Pattana Plc, operator of Central department stores, recently announced ‘Thailand’s Pride Celebration 2024’ event, to be held at 24 Central shopping malls nationwide. Held under the concept ”pride for all”, the event aims to celebrate diversity, equality and inclusion throughout the month of June, said chief marketing officer Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana. He said the main highlight would be the fashion parade, “Rhythm of Pride”, with over 500 celebrities as a part of Bangkok Pride Festival 2024 at Central World shopping mall. Participants will also enjoy concerts, digital art exhibition, and pride market that showcases products designed for LGBTQIAN+ consumers. Nattakit estimated that Central’s pride activities in June will attract up to 800,000 visitors to Central shopping mall nationwide, increasing from around 520,000 visitors recorded in the same period last year. Around 160,000 people are expected to participate in the main event at Central World, he added. Meanwhile, Siam Piwat, the operator of Siam Centre, Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon and Iconsiam malls, announced its “Celebration: Right to Love” campaign throughout June to celebrate Pride month. Saruntorn Asaves, head of Siam Piwat’s shopping centre business, said the campaign would be a part of Bangkok Pride Festival 2024 to celebrate Thailand becoming the first country in Southeast Asia to approve the equal marriage bill. “Pride Month activities will help boost the economy and tourism industry in Bangkok, which is the capital of diversity that welcomes visitors of all lifestyles and interests,” he said. The man, who underwent the ritual three months ago, shared his story on the Red Skull X account, formerly Twitter, revealing the young cult leader‘s name but requesting it remain private. The man stated that he initially believed in the power of the cult leader but later lost all respect after seeing a lot of negative news about him and felt that his ceremony was not as successful as he promised. The man shared the pictures with the X account showing penises covered with masks. These kind of masks are typically worn by performers in Thai traditional dance and drama called Khon. Each mask represents the characters in the Ramakien epic. The man disclosed that the young cult leader and his father performed the ritual on each participant for a fee of 399 baht. In an interview with Channel 7, he explained that the ritual involved participants removing their trousers, having their private parts covered with masks, and then having the cult leader briefly place his mouth over their penis. The entire ceremony lasted less than 10 minutes, with no chanting or offerings. This ritual bears a resemblance to a traditional ceremony practiced among Khon performers and other Thai artists, symbolising acceptance as a student by respected teachers, artists, or musician. However, in the traditional version, the mask covers the participant’s head, not their private parts. This strange ceremony drew criticism from Thai netizens, particularly from members of the Khon and traditional performance communities, who condemn the young cult leader and his family for disrespecting cultural practices. Currently, there are no reports on whether the ritual violates any law.

From Malaysia Sun Bangkok - Interviews have begun with Myanmar refugees living in Thailand who are eligible for a new resettlement program in the United States, the Thai government said. Thailand said it hopes the first group may get to move by the end of the year. Some 90,000 refugees live in nine camps on the Thai side of the border to escape fighting between Myanmar's military and ethnic minority rebel armies vying for autonomy. Some of the refugees were born in the camps, which started to form in the mid-1980s, and many have lived in them for decades. Persistent fighting in Myanmar, amplified by a military coup in February 2021, has kept most from returning home. Aiming to give the refugees a safe way out of the camps, Thailand, the United States and the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees announced the resettlement plan in May 2023. One year on, Thailand's Ministry of Interior says that the Thai government and UNHCR have finished checking the personal information of the refugees to verify their eligibility for the program. More than 80,000 refugees were deemed eligible, and nearly all of them told officials they wanted to resettle. "After that, the U.S. team went to the first two camps for interviews, which have already been done," Zcongklod Khawjang, an interior ministry official in charge of overseeing the resettlement program, told VOA this week.
