Just back from 3.5 weeks in LOS (Pattaya, Phuket, and Bangkok). During this trip, I noticed that the concept of appearance fees (aka tips for entertainment) seems to have become a requirement. What do I mean by this? In the past, I would often take a boy or two from a bar to a club, karaoke, morlam, etc., without ending up in the bedroom. The boys would be compensated for their time (e.g., 1000 baht) and go home happy. Often, I would also ask if they wanted to invite some friends to join us after work, or they might invite friends anyway if we already knew each other. The joiners or uninvited tag-along guests usually received 1-200 baht to cover food and transport at the end of the night, and of course, all their drinks and food were paid for throughout the evening. On my most recent trip, there were a few occasions where the joiners demanded a "tip for entertainment" at the end of the night or simply asked upfront, "How much will the farang pay if we join?" This is a new and unwelcome phenomenon for me. For the last 20+ years, when I have been going out, the boys were just happy to have a sponsor to pay for the night out and join as friends, rather than as a paid entourage. I'm curious if others have come across this behavior recently?

1. Is my outline understanding correct? Yes 2. Is there a time limit for the customer's return? (Presumably, if there is, then after the time limit, the bar would either dispose of the bottle or use the remaining liquid in the bottle for their own house pour). Depends on the bar but its usually something between 10-30 days, after which it gets consumed by the bar (or siphoned by the barman) 3. Is there any charge for the customer who returns and asks for this bottle. Does the customer get to return as many times as he likes (within time limit, if any) for free (i.e. no entry charge) if he has a bottle waiting for him on the shelf? No charge to re-call your bottle, but there may be a charge for mixers and ice. Some bars include all mixers + ice until the bottle is finished on multiple occasion. Others charge on a return visit 4. Presumably, each visit the customer is likely to order mixers. What sort of prices do the bars charge for mixers and any charge for ice, etc? (A single-drink customer would have to pay 400 -500 baht for a can of Tonic, Soda or Coca Cola. If a bottle customer asked for a similar can as mixer, is he charged at a different rate? As above, some bars include all mixers + ice until the bottle is finished on multiple occasion. Others charge on a return visit. Last week, Goodboys were charging 100b per mixer on a subsequent visit 5. If the customer calls a boy to sit with him, and offers the boy a drink served out of the same bottle, does the bar charge nothing? (for customers who order single drinks, the bar would charge a boy drink and earn money from that; the boy also gets maybe 50 or 100 baht from the boy drink). Again depends on the bar, i have drank in Fresh boys, Jupiter and Good boys in the past where the boys drank for free. Last week, Good boys wanted 400b for a boy to join the table (boy gets 200b from that). The boy got a "boy drink" and once that drink was finished could choose to stay and drink for free (with prospective tip or off), try to extract another boy drink or go back on the floor 6. Can a boy refuse a drink out of the bottle, e.g. saying "I don't drink alcohol." What usually happens then? Again depends on the bar, the boy can choose a boy drink or can drink coke from the mixers of they don't drink alcohol 7. Do mamasans help themselves freely to the bottle? Or must they first be explicitly invited by the customer to partake? (I have seen mamasans - sometimes two of them - drink considerably from bottles and I have often wondered what the understanding between customer and mamasan was, or was the mamasan helping herself liberally in order to exhaust the bottle as soon as possible, it being her job to help the bar sell more bottles/drinks?). Usually mamasans and waiters drink by invitation and don't qualify for mandatory "boy drinks", of course familiarity breeds contempt! They also try and convince you how much they like 400b tequila shots! Per comments above, buying a bottle at e.g. 2500b exempts you from "admission fees" so if there are 3-4 people in your group, and all can drink the same beverage, it is definitely the most economical way to go if you intend to stay for more than 1 drink

Agreed! after spending 5 days in Phuket last week where a tuktuk costs a minimum of 300 baht to go anywhere, the Pattaya Baht bus system cant be beaten!

BF and i dropped in late Tuesday night as there was a very cute guy at the door Stopped for a drink with the door boy and another Myanmar boy. Unfortunately this was after 1.5 bottles of whiskey in Good Boys and I had a flight home the next morning so didn't get to know the boys too well, but it seems that they are all from Myanmar and speak pretty decent English, the 2 guys we met were very charming and engaging. I have promised myself and the boys i will to drop in again on my return!

I have to respectfully disagree with this and your advice is likely to get someone a tyre iron in the head from an angry Songtaew driver The fare is 10B from Jomtien to South Pattaya/Central shopping Mall. If you cross Pattya Klang/Central road and head on towards Terminal 21 then the fare increases to 20B. Of course on a busy day the driver might not notice how long you have been on the Songtaew, but if there are few passengers they will and wont be shy in calling you out about it

World’s largest carved Buddha image 30-minute drive from Pattaya

Have done that trip a few times also, every time i swear it gets worse and the pain in my ass is excruciating by the time we get near Na Jomtien! (not for THAT reason... dirty minds!) Its a pity the Silverlake vineyard and winery didn't survive Covid as the 2 were pretty much side-by-side -
It's so far south it is practically in Bang Saray. No option but to travel on Sukhumvit to get there and back I would run a mile unless I was going on a honeymoon or to detox!

There was at least 8 Gogo bars on my first trip to Phuket in 2001. The decline happened after the Tsunami, when gay tourists stopped visiting and the older generation of gay visitors decided travelling to Pattaya was easier than an additional flight to Phuket

allegedly! Rumour has it he's still around and back starring in Rosanne!

I would go for the empty double unit next to BA/BN bar, across from "your bar", if you got your doormen/barkers right you could grab all the customers as they enter the complex from Agate side

Something tells me that Neal was not half as rich as he like to pretend to be, smoke and mirrors Given that he owned the main gay forum at the time it was very easy for him to manipulate a narrative

When will sex tourism become cashless in Thailand?

i'm pretty sure that his generosity was meant as a back handed slap at the social media beggar! -
When will sex tourism become cashless in Thailand?
colmx replied to abidismaili's topic in Gay Thailand
A large number of Pattaya moneyboys puts up a post on Facebook in the lead up to birthday with a QR code for anyone to send them a donation, and most Thai will be able to take payment by QR code if needed. The non Thais are less likely to have a Thai bank account, mostly down to lack of trust and lack of knowledge on how to open an account My BF sent one guy 5 Baht recently after he posted, said thats all the beggar deserved! -
Average Male body hair distributions- Geographically
colmx replied to floridarob's topic in The Beer Bar
Can't talk about the distribution of hair on the maps, but i have noticed anecdotally: Khmer guys often have hairy chests and calves, but have completely (naturally) smooth thighs, ass and balls Laos guys often have completely smooth bodies and legs, and the it all disappoints when you take off their pants and discover a jungle back and front that even a weed whacker would fail to cut through! -
In August, we took a Bolt from Pattaya to Suvanabhumi there were no safety belts in the back and the front safety belt didn't work, the car was so old that it had a cassette deck, and as usual the driver had to get gas on the way and do all kinds of U-Turns Also in August, we took a meter taxi from Suvanabhumi to Pattaya and the driver was not willing to take less than 1800 plus wanted us to pay tolls, when we tried to negotiate we were surrounded by a gang of other taxi drivers and BF was told "that's the price, take it or leave it" by the mob Next trip we will definitely be pre-booking through TheLimoPattaya or similar companies

You can get it a lot cheaper on Klook: https://www.klook.com/activity/336-tiffanys-show-pattaya/?spm=Activity.TopNavigation.SelectCurrency&clickId=b3cf9d49d9 Alternatively if you know somebody "in the know" i am told you can get tickets to the cheap seats for 500b

correct! I am surprised that so few others thought it was elsewhere! Xboys has those annoying digital clocks in the background, where the time is never correct and both clocks are never on the same time!

Thanks for the TR Sudoxi Curious as to why you never visited Silom Soi 2 (DJ or Espresso) or Soi Freeman (GOD) during your visit, as a younger farang you would probably have picked up a few non MBs for some mutual fun or even some freelancers. Perhaps night clubs are not your thing?

Whilst I have never participated, I have been in the vicinity of Home bar during the bingo and it's usually standing room only each Wednesday Bingo night. So it is a very popular night out. I have heard plenty of departing expats tell their friends that they will see them again the next week. Seems it works for them and the people that enjoy it

Recently the fast track lane at the far right of the main immigration hall (to the right of the Thai Citizen and Autogate lanes) which dealt with Business/ Elderly/Disabled travelers also started accepting families with lots of children On my last 2 trips (biz) i found it quicker to deal with the main line, than deal with several families of 4-5 all trying to cajole their 4-10 year old kids to go through immigration on their own, get pics taken etc

Back in the early/mid 2000s when we had the Pattaya Gay Festival (PGF) there was usually a fundraising event at least once a month: Gala dinners, Valentines parties, street parties, beach party, Mister PGF, Miss PGF, Mister Muscle, Gay Parade, charity auctions etc. This would culminate with a week of events around world AIDs day in early December Most of these events were fundraisers, so represented a great way to mix with other like minded gay farang, unfortunately these days its every man for himself and the PGF is long gone - but thankfully Dr. Phillipe and HEARTT 2000 are still around saving countless boys lives Image below is from the Wayback Machine https://web.archive.org/web/20040202183017/http://www.pattayagayfestival.com/about_us.php
