I might want to add some about choosing where to sit in a bar. Some of these places were "protected" under previous government where corruption is rampant. When we have new government, the enforcement have a major reform, corrupt police leaders were seen resigning from their posts, and thus starts a "cleaning sweep" process where area/premises who used to be "giving bribe" are no longer safe. However, raids is not unusual here. From time to time, raids do happens, and mostly those who were caught are illegal immigrants workers and the owner if they dont have permit to run such businesses they claim they run. Anyway, ive heard some raids was done and in a different local forum have noted some of my regulars were being sent home. First raids was around end of May this year, at sempurna avenue, then i heard freshm2m cheras got raided too, and bbboy(aroma) which got raided, closed and move upstairs, and got raided second time that leads to the closure of their websites. I believe this was done fully aware of its impact towards tourism and such. While tourism wasnt malaysia's major income, majority of malaysia's visitors has always been muslim from the middle east, and with recents years, chinese from mainland china, none of which would be affected as much as most western visitors. As with any political issues, majority wins. Heck, even US voted the womanizer, racist, bigot, homophobic orange jay as their president.
