  1. If you are staying at either the Pinnacle Hotel or the Malaysia Hotel, it should be very easy to get there. It's within easy walking distance. From the Malaysia Hotel it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to walk. From either hotel just walk down to Rama IV. Turn right. Cross the first pedestrian bridge you come to. That's the bridge in the photos above. It should be easy to follow the directions from there.
  2. I won't say whether you're right or wrong, but it ought to be fun for everyone . . . except me! But after the brouhaha you and I went through, I have a feeling you'll come down from Chiang Mai and be the first one in line.
  3. Why not? They sure don't seem to be doing all that much to protect the public at any other times, unless of course you pay them to protect you or they're out there protecting the public from the terrible danger of people riding around on motorcycles without wearing helmets that aren't worth a damn in the first place . . .
  4. Maybe it was a summer promotion . . .
  5. Welcome to Pattaya, one and all! How many times and for how many years have we heard all about how the police and the city are going to clean up Beach Road and put an end to the aggressive prostitute, especially katoey prostitute, problems? On an average of once a week at least we see stories about farang being solicited, pickpocketed, and often even beaten on Beach Road, right in the vicinity of the police station. And they can't understand why there is such a tourism problem? When foreign tourists can't even take a stroll along the beach walk without fear of this sort of thing happening to them, maybe that will give the city a clue as to what needs to be done. All it would take would be to have two or three police officers patrolling the beach at night to put a stop to this, but nooooo. I don't know. Maybe they're too busy stopping innocent drivers for their evening shakedown to be able to find time to be out there protecting tourists from what they know damned well goes on every night. Here's the latest one from the PATTAYA DAILY NEWS and comments by the editor: for photos see: http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownews.php?IDNEWS=0000009887 _____ SPURNED LADYBOY ROBS AND KNIFES OZZIE TOURIST ON PATTAYA BEACH ROAD Pattaya, July 29,[PDN]: an Australian tourist, walking along Pattaya Beach Road, was solicited by a katoey (ladyboy) who, when rejected, picked the tourist
  6. Actually you're not far of base. I won't give away what Oogleman and I are up to, but I have a feeling that once everyone knows, the place where we're going to do what we do will be packed. You know why? Everyone who wants to get back at me and get their revenge will have their chance. That is, if I don't chicken out and go elsewhere that day . . .

  8. No reason why you should have heard of it. It's a girlie bar, not a gay bar.
  9. I'm with you. I don't like he drag shows either. As a matter of fact, I dislike most of the bar shows I've ever seen. The way the shows are presented, in my opinion if you've seen one, you've seen them all. For me, show time is get up and go time. When I go to the bars, I'm there to see the go-go boys.
  10. You can drive in Thailand provided you have both your home country driving license and an International Driving Permit. Although the International Driving Permit is supposed to be good for a year, Thailand will only honor it for the first 90 days upon entry to Thailand or when it expires, whichever comes first. In other words, you have 90 days to obtain a Thai driving license once you get here. One important thing to consider is although Thailand will honor your International Driving Permit, that doesn't necessarily mean your Thai car insurance company will if an accident happens. Make sure to check that with the insurer first, before purchasing a car. If you are going to hire a car, I would still check with the insurer to make sure the car is actually insured. Some of the fly-by-night car rental agents are not exactly above telling you the car is fully insured even if there is no insurance at all. It may be more expensive, but you're much safer renting a car from a reputable company. If you are eligible for any kind of non-immigrant visa, such as a retirement visa, it will only require a few hours of your time to get a Thai driving license, but you can't get one without a non-immigrant visa.
  11. Although the service is not available in Thailand, their web site does say that they are planning to extend it to other countries.
  12. Thank you and I accept yours too.
  13. I hope this helps:
  14. It's not easy to publicly apologize, but I reviewed my posts on some recent threads and in retrospect I feel that I came on unnecessarily strong in my comments and responses to KhorTose and I owe him an apology. I know KhorTose and he is a great guy for whom I have much respect. My position about the issues remains the same, but I do feel that I was dead wrong to post in the manner in which I did. It was uncalled for on my part and I am ashamed of myself for having done so. KhorTose, I am truly sorry and I hope you will accept my apology.
  15. This one, I think. It appears in PATTAYA ONE: _____ Underage Workers and Drug Users Arrested During Two Weekend Bar Inspections by Pattaya Police Pattaya, July 27 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Over the weekend, Police Major Apichanan from Pattaya Police Station conducted raids on two go-go bars located in Soi Sunee Plaza in South Pattaya and close to Jomtien Beach Road. The raid began at the Holiday 2 Boy Bar in Soi Sunee Plaza where officers checked licenses, the age of employees and patrons and for the presence of narcotics. At this bar, 4 male employees failed urine tests and were subsequently charged with class 1 drug consumption offences. No further problems were found at this bar. Officers then made their way to the

  18. Ole is still doing their Wednesday night buffet. We just received that information. Tomorrow, Wednesday, a group of us are going. I'll let you know what additional information we are able to find out once we have it.
  19. Don't feel alone in that. I've had the same thing happen at my place and have heard plenty of similar stories from others.
  20. The following appears in the BANGKOK POST: _____ Thai Prenatal Flu Infection Case Details Sent to WHO Writer: APIRADEE TREERUTKUARKUL Published: 28/07/2009 Scientific and medical details of Thailand's first case of a fetus being infected with type-A (H1N1) flu by the mother have been sent to the World Health Organisation for study. The 26-year-old mother, who had the flu, gave birth in Ratchaburi on Saturday. She was later transferred by helicopter to Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok. Chulalongkorn Hospital director Adisorn Patradul said yesterday the mother was still in critical condition with a lung infection and was on a respirator, but her baby was recovering from the flu. The baby, born premature at seven months after a cesarean section, was found to have caught the flu from the mother. It is the first case of prenatal infection with A (H1N1) flu contracted from the mother in Thailand. Dr. Adisorn said it was possible the baby contracted the flu from the mother through the placenta, amniotic fluid and blood which contained the virus. Only three cases of mother-to-child transmission of A (H1N1) have been reported in the US and further scientific study is necessary to understand how this happens, he said. The Public Health Ministry has been looking to improve flu drug distribution to solve the problem of delayed treatment at large hospitals, which could result in fatalities among patients with flu. Short-term monitoring of medical records by the ministry showed an estimated 30% of the flu deaths in Thailand were caused by delays in the patients receiving medicinal treatment. "Anti-flu drugs will be supplied to every hospital and clinic across the country, regardless of whether they are private or state ones," Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbodee said. "Clinical practices will also be closely monitored to ensure patients are completely cured and the number of deaths reduced." A total of 800,000 pills of oseltamivir would be distributed to clinics across the country each day, which would cover about 80,000 patients, Mr Manit said. The Government Pharmaceutical Organisation would supply flu medicines to about 2,100 private clinics in Bangkok daily, while about 14,900 clinics upcountry could obtain the drugs from provincial hospitals, he said. Each clinic would receive 50 tablets of anti-viral medicine a day. Mr. Manit insisted the country had enough reserves of anti-viral drugs to treat the population and 99% of type-A (H1N1) patients were completely cured. It was necessary for people to take good care of themselves and seek hospital treatment within two days if their flu-like fever does not go away. Self-medication is strongly advised against among those with pre-existing health complications, he said.
  21. Lots of Good things happening at La Cage in August!
  22. I disagree. While you may be absolutely right, facts are facts and I think people have the right to know the overall situation as it truly is. If your information is different, by all means tell us what you know, but I think everyone who is in a position to make these observations should let people know what's going on, without hiding it. I don't think the gay community will stop coming to Thailand because of these reports. But if it was me making my plans to come to Thailand, I would prefer to know what to expect once I get there. I also believe if we start portraying the situation as if everything is just ginger peachy, and then people come here and see that it isn't, there goes our credibility.
  23. I think you're right. I hear about more problems dealing with the consulate in Penang than anywhere else.
  24. As far as I can tell, that's right. This year, with very few exceptions, I have yet to speak with any restaurant owner, bar owner, business owner, hotel owner, or any other owner who isn't complaining and quite worried about the lack of customers. I believe the tourist numbers are far less than the numbers the Thai government publishes, and the tourists who do come are spending a lot less money once they get here. When I do see restaurants and venues crowded, they're usually the ones that are low priced or are offering promotions or one kind or another. Often, when I have commented to venue owners who do appear to be crowded that I'm happy to see that they're doing ok, the response I get is usually similar to, "That's today! Come by tomorrow and see if it's the same." Also, even when they're crowded, the customer turnover rate is much less than in previous years. Some restaurants, for example, that this time last year you couldn't get into without a reservation are now easy to walk into any time you want, with or without a reservation. I think we all know by now that the tourist industry in Thailand is in serious trouble. I just hope the whole thing doesn't collapse.
  25. Thank you for this post. I didn't know the restaurant had been sold. Many members of the gay community here always enjoyed the Wednesday night German buffet. Many would be there every week for it. It will certainly be of interest to many once we find out whether the new owners are going to continue those and, if he does, at what price. I feel badly for the Ole staff who will now find themselves out of a job. Many have been with Ole for years and now they're probably in for quite a rough time finding new employment.
