I was hopeful earlier this year. Now not so. My little hope is that when everyone is vaccinated we can really really go again in October. The coming months nearly everyone in the world will have the vaccin. For me the only positive thing out of all this is that I have never saved so much money in my live. Normally I spend so much on my three travels a year. I save it all now.

Thanks. And are there many customers watching the show? My guess is they also thrive on tourists. Expats have seen the shows many times, they can’t be among the majority of customers. Surprised they apparently still manage to make money and pay the dancers.

I am reading again travel stories here. This triggers the following question: Do you live there or you took the two week quarentaine option? If the last does your employer allow you to work these 2 weeks? Else it is quite a chunk out of your yearly leave days.

A Walk Around Gay Bangkok, Thailand - March 5, 2021

For those of you now in Thailand: you live there or you took the two week quarentaine option? If the last does your employer allow you to work these 2 weeks? Else it is quite a chunk out of your yearly leave days. -
i am not surperised. The gay bars need tourists. It is 99% of their customer base. I am surprised they are still there after a traval ban for about a year now. I hope they still exist when i can travel again. But I worry.

Expats or tourists ? I just can’t believe many working age tourists choose the two week quarantine option. It is a lost two weeks of your vacation hours Question: are you allowed during quarantaine to meet boys who visit you? So use Grindr and tell them to go to the hotel ? Or no visitors allowed at all? I guess the last of course but to be sure I ask it anyway.

Does The Venue still have shows most nights ? There can’t be that many customers now. Only expats I guess. Full house still?

I like the bars but don’t like the pressure. I like watching the boys. Many times boys look different in real life than on a photo. Even when it is not fake or old photo, the looks somehow can be different when you meet in real life. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes for the worse. That is why I like the bars. You know for sure what you are getting. And can have a small chat before offing.

How many tourists did tot you see?
-
Last trip November 2019 When oh when can I go back? I have 5 weeks holiday a year. I can’t go for the two week quarantine option. That will take 4 of my 5 weeks if I want to have two weeks real holiday there. Then rest of the year only working working without a break. Won’t do that. I asked my job but they don’t allow working from there. I am surprised there is no mass uprising from all these Thai who directly (hotels for example) or indirectly (massage shops for example) work in the tourism industry. How do they get money now? Hoe do they pay their rent?
-
Oh. Didn’t know we needed a visa to be pre-arranged. I admit I haven’t looked into it. I just assumed when you arrive you must go to a hotel and stay inside for two weeks. And that we just get a visa on arrival like always. Guess I was wrong.
-
Can I ask what type of tourists you see now? I guess almost none and the farang you see now are nearly all expats? Not many regular tourists I guess who want to do the two week quarantine? So doesnt it then look pretty empty? In Jomtien are the bars fulll at night? If so with whom? Expats only? Or is my assumption that not many are choosing the two week quarantine option wrong?

What about booking a flight now? How sure is it your plane will actually leave? Not many people are traveling now and I am sure the plane would not depart if there were only like 10 seats booked. So even while you can go now there is still a lot uncertainty about if on the date you book your plane will actually go (I know about the two week quarantine but if WiFi is good I could work from the hotel. I am working from home now anyway because of COVID)

India is only number 70 in Covid death per capita as per 3 October Other factors can play a role besides temperature. But governmental policies seem very unlikely to explain it. Maybe culture to wear masks? In Asian countries it was pretty usual to see people with masks in the streets before Covid. Another factor in Europe average age who dies is 85 (in the Netherlands it is 85). In Europe most elderly live in care homes. In Thailand with their family. Care home was a huge cause of spread of the virus. I can think of some other factors but if people think African or Thai government capability is better than the average Western country than you are delusional. And temperature really plays a role. Corona viruses don’t like it higher temperature. All things being equal it will be more severe in countries with moderate temperatures.
-
The fact that Thailand and other tropical countries have so few cases and death is because the virus doesn’t like these temperatures. You really think these governments in these half-failed states are more capable than Western governments to control it? That governmental capability doesn’t show itself in any other area then that is a responsibility of governments. Why it is the temperature? Because every single country at that latitude has no issue. if it was government skills shouldn’t there be countries at that latitude which have issues comparable to Europe? Africa which is almost all composed of failed states has no big issues. Temperature explains it all and is the common thing they all have in common. The survival rate of this virus is about 100% if you are below 60. If you belong in risky age group quarantine yourself. The rest of the population can live their life.

I am waiting since March to travel. I have now a strong feeling in 2020 I will not travel to Thailand at all I read today on the BBC the Thai government is maybe going to use the Covid crisis to drastically change Thailand’s future tourism. They don’t want millions of backpack tourists anymore. They want rich tourists. They don’t want sex tourists. I am getting the idea that maybe the era of gogo bars and beer bars is over. Without me realizing it at the time, maybe my November 2019 holiday was the last of its kind. How can the bar scene survive so many months without clients? Will it really ever get back to normal? I am frustrated

When will Thailand open to Tourists- question/speculation?
abidismaili replied to floridarob's topic in The Beer Bar
What I would love to know how are hotels in Thailand doing? And other tourist related sectors, like massage places? How do the owners and people who work there pay for their rent and food without income? That I would love to know. How is this done? Many hotels must be on the verge of bankruptcy. Shouldn’t that be enough of a trigger to restart tourism? -
If tourism is impossible for much the rest of 2020, then I doubt there will be any gay bars left when you plan to go to Jomtien. How can they survive this?

Very brief report of 21st trip to Thailand in Jun 2020
abidismaili replied to vinapu's topic in Gay Thailand
It is all so sad. And the authorities are very silent about when tourism becomes possible again. -
Many many Thais depend for their income on tourism. I hope the government will not be that strict as indicated above. It will make many Thai angry. Thailand just can’t afford it to be that strict How are Thai who lost their job because no customers in hotels, no customers in massage shops etc managing to pay their rent and food? There is a government program which gives every Thai who lost their job now some money ?

My March holiday I had to cancel due to corona. I am very eager to go again. Do I understand it correctly from 1 July it is possible to travel to Thailand? I assume without a mandatory two week isolation? Else pointless to go for me. Waste of my vacation days of which I don’t have many. I normally never go in summer, but will make an exception this year.

It’s my favorite also. Medium priced and the rooms are excellent and modern.

Which language do Chinese use to talk to the Thai?
abidismaili replied to abidismaili's topic in Gay Thailand
Thank you and Happy New Year to you too. You are from the former Dutch East Indies ? -
Of course we farang talk in English to the Thai boys. Doesn’t matter if you come from America, the UK, France, Germany or the Netherlands, etc. We all use English. We know that language more or less because we all learned it in school. The Thai boys I guess learn it on the job But I have been to China and almost no one (outside guides and people working in hotels) speak very good English. So I was wondering how the Chinese customers talk to their Thai offs ? Same question for Japanese customers. And Russians. Russians also aren’t that good in English. How do they chat with the boys?

I always went March and October. Except this year when I had my end of year trip the last week of this November (I returned Friday). Since end of November counts for high season, I didn’t notice any difference with my begin October holidays in other years. For example the public in The Venue cabaret show and Castro cabaret show was about equal size compared to an early October showing. Boys seemed to be about equal in numbers. I just didn’t see the difference.
