Ok thanks. I was confused because it was implied the boys are really heterosexual and act only gay in exchange for money. I couldn't believe it, because in my (limited) experience I think most go go boys are sincerely gay. And of course undoubtedly some will be heterosexuals. But I think that are the exceptions.

So the police are only doing these raids for some extra income? Because if there are no legal consequences for the bar owners when they are caught, then what other reason can there be? The local government must know about this. So that government is also OK that the police can be bribed? National government also has no issue with it? It is just a fact of life and no-one cares? Seems to me the police is also not afraid THEY are caught. Because I am sure accepting bribes is officially a crime. But also goes without punishment. So technically Thailand police is a criminal organization? :-) I mean most members daily violating at least the anti-bribery law. Police officers can't have much self respect. They know they are criminals themselves.

I often read Thailand - and Pattaya in particular - is a gay paradise, but there is then always someone saying: "Yes it is, but it is gay for pay". What is meant with that? That the boys are almost all heterosexual and only go with men for the money? Or do they mean that while the boys are gay indeed (most of them) they only will go with you for money? That picking one up for free is as good as impossible? (Assuming the tourist is not 20, but say 40 or 50)? I just find it hard to believe most boys in gogo bars and beer bars and on Gayromeo are hetero's selling themselves. I am sure a few will be heterosexual. But the majority is gay, or not?

Can someone explain to me why if work permits are needed do bars employ these boys who do not have a permit? The bar owner is not afraid he will loose his licence? Or is it really so easy to bribe the police? Then still you take quite a risk. What if you encounter an officer who does not want to be bribed? Then you have two charges against you. Why take the risk? Bangkok is a big city. Many Thai gay boys who want to work in a bar. Why do they hire boys who do not have a permit? Taking into account the risks I outlined above?

Please tell me which job gives a person 3 * 4 = 12 weeks holiday in a year? You are a teacher?

Yes I see your point Newelaan. And you are right. But I just don't like crowded places. Of course it is in my long term interest it is crowded. I realize that. I like young twinks. Most Farang do. So if you are into these boys there is competition. Certainly if you want to off the boy of your first choice. Has happened to me often enough that I was too late in bar for my first choice. Also in high season I notice sometimes that some bars are quite empty with customers. I think it is not going so well lately with business. It does worry me. I think dating apps are to blame.

Low season is not too bad for going to Pattaya. Because far less competition from other gay Farang and there are still many hot boys on the dating apps. They don't all leave Pattaya. It also cuts the prizes. Besides I don't like it when Boyztown for example is very crowded (like 31 December 2014, it was extremely crowded). I like it when it is more quiet.

Please realise that when going to Soi Twilight the average drink is now about 400 baht. Since you need two drinks (one for you and one for the boy) it becomes 800 baht. Off fee 500, so we have already 1300. Then boy 1500, which makes it 2800. Excluding any tips. So say 3000 baht if we include tips, thats what you need to spend for each go go boy you take to your hotel. If I were you I would use Grindr/Gayromeo/Hornet and only go to a go go bar once every 3, 4 days. It saves a lot of money and the boys on Gayromeo are also very hot. And you can easily get one for 1000 baht that way. Saves 2000!! That is my advice after a few trips.
