  1. Found in vikipedia Mor lam (Thai/Isan: หมอลำ [mɔ̌ː lam]) is a traditional Lao form of song in Laos and Isan. Mor lam means expert song, or expert singer, referring to the music or artist respectively. Other romanisations used include mor lum, maw lam, maw lum, moh lam and mhor lum. In Laos, the music is known simply as lam (ລຳ); mor lam (ໝໍລຳ) refers to the singer. The characteristic feature of lam singing is the use of a flexible melody which is tailored to the tones of the words in the text. Traditionally, the tune was developed by the singer as an interpretation of glawn poems and accompanied primarily by the khene, a free reed mouth organ, but the modern form is most often composed and uses electrified instruments. Contemporary forms of the music are also characterised by quick tempi and rapid delivery, while tempi tend to be slower in traditional forms and in some Lao genres. Some consistent characteristics include strong rhythmic accompaniment, vocal leaps, and a conversational style of singing that can be compared to American rap. Typically featuring a theme of unrequited love, mor lam also reflects the difficulties of life in rural Isan and Laos, leavened with wry humour. In its heartland, performances are an essential part of festivals and ceremonies, while the music has gained a profile outside its native regions thanks to the spread of migrant workers, for whom it remains an important cultural link with home
  2. Gaybutton, while you are 125 % right it needs to be noted that those compulsory dinners are easily avoided by booking somewhere else. And if other choices are booked up already traveler has no option but to fork out money, gnash and brush a teeth and force himself either to attend such a dinner or waste money. As I mentioned before , Niagara Hotel in Silom soi 9 will not have a forced dinner and likely will have space, speaking from personal experience as few year ago I arrive unannounced late afternoon on New Year's Eve and they still had a free room. Nobody will be forced to pay for dinner at BBB Inn as they don't have dining facilities, so there are options at least in BKK
  3. When I was there last time, about 1 year ago, venom milking was done in a separate show in the building past an amphitheater .All done behind glass and no photo-op up close at that session but plenty of it in the second session. Ticket valid on both. Kids would love it , just like you mentioned in your blog, will learn not to fear but respect snakes.
  4. Christian is not sex tourist , he is sex local guy
  5. did they mention that when you were booking or actually checking in ? just curious when making bookings for my incoming trip I noticed that some places are jacking up prices considerably just for Christmas period Dec 24-27 without even offering force-feeding by way of Christmas dinner so I'd say I rather be forced to pay extra for dinner on 25th than be forced to pay much more just for room for that date.
  6. Enjoy your time in Siem Reap but don't forget to visit ruins, one of greatest ancient sights in the world. If you are art lover you will be forgiven if you just soak in the architecture leaving boy sightings for PTY.
  7. My too !
  8. This is exactly what they do, respect diversity of their client base and cashing in on visitors from with fond memories of Christmas festivities and bringing them to open wallets, just the same like they would do at home. Hence all those dinners, Christmas trees in the malls e.t.c. to soothe homesickness typical to that time for some. Christmas became Commercemas good while ago in the West , why it should be ignored by Buddhist business? I'm not defending idea of forced Christmas dinner though, just don't see much Christianity left in that holiday, just shopping before and tons of wrappings in garbage after.
  9. ?????
  10. Snake farm across the Rama IV from soi Twilight, two shows , 11 a.m. milking venom , 2.30 p.m. snake presentation with photo opportunity, save the ticket so they don't need to pay twice, kids will love it, how many of their friends will have picture big yellow python around the neck. Wat Haulampong nearby with live cows. Tour of canals of Thonburi / Khlong Bangkok Noi /side with Royal Barges museum, easily arranged by hiring boat from Tha Chang river boat stop. When touring Vinamek / Teak palace / , Throne hall nearby is not to be missed. Stroll through Lumpini park with high probability will result in meeting big monitor lizards, always thrill . Ancient City / Muang Boran / as mentioned above, bicycles can be rented there , kids may have a fun.
  11. While I agree that idea of mandatory dinner is obnoxious , it is easy to avoid - book somewhere else. I'm pretty sure Gurke Guesthouse in Sumee or Niagara Hotel in Silom , soi 9 don't have those. It seems to be established practice in better hotels in LOS so either bite the bullet or move on. Not that complaints are not valid but likely are leading to nowhere, I guess hotels know their business and are trying to squeeze water out of the stones. Farmers would call it harvest time. One of my friends , straight whoring in BKK last year was complaining about the same in one of those big Sukhumvit hotels but it turned out that actually he was glad he was forced to attend just to get his money worth as food was fabulous, may be this is consolation for some. I'm sure ChristianPFC does not have this kind of problems, me neither.
  12. That's true, when there I used to cross the streets just for fun, the same way like taking rollecoasters, Saigon is even worse/ better, depending of how scared one is
  13. Over years we had so many complains on various boards of how boring and unsexy sex shows are and how boys are just knee shuffling instead of dancing so now junta decided to teach us lesson by showing bars and shows can be even more boring and unsexy. I wouldn't be surprised if this move will result in actually bar being better patronized than before as half dressed go-go boys are still much better then fully dressed ones. Actually I think partially dressed boys are more sexy that stark naked although I prefer still old type boring variety with dental floss in place of underwear. Personally hope in few weeks all will be back to old norm but we will see. Hope springs eternal.
  14. Martial law will end not when tourists get tired of it but when local population has enough of it
  15. That's the problem only for those who decide to form that kind of money for a dinner, even New Year's
  16. How it went?
  17. Overstay fees seem to be big industry on border posts in LOS. They count day of arrival as first day even if you arrive , say at 23.55. No need to count days though as they stamp with date one is admitted to , best to check it right away when collecting passport on immigration and be prepared with fees . Good to know Arena is still excellent - almost always my first stop on Bangkok trail, do you remember who was your masseur? If Tawan boys are desperate for an off I hope to help them in few weeks.
  18. I second that, it was actually your recommendation which took me there and I'm still smiling at recollection of their 4 hands treatment.
  19. From comments of one of the readers of Christian's blog it looks that Guy Spa in Sukhumvit Soi 19 is closed to good as landlord did not renew apparently. Hope they re-incarnate somewhere in vicinity as this was good place full of hunky guys.

Praelu, there are no doubters above , just well wishers with some experience of farang-Thai relationships pointing some possible bumps on the road to happiness, often proved very illusory. It's nothing difficult to understand falling in love but if there 's love , there is no doubt and where's doubt there's no love, just lust and may be hope. If you feel need to check on person you adore this is not love, it's diligent preparation for business transaction IMNSHO / In My Not So Humble Opinion /
  21. back to the original question, apart from DD Inn and possibly Two Faces any other places with short time rooms around Jomtien Complex?
  22. actually I do exactly as you advised Bob, plus carry copy of important pages of my passport in my hand luggage. Hate wallets as they are bulky and are drawing attention , particularly in poorer countries where people , crooks included, are of opinion that all Westerners with exception for backpackers possibly are very wealthy
  23. I wouldn't be surprised if some German tabloid made sure that his fame is not contained to just Pattaya, his choice of companionship was definitely poor but from time to time all of us can tell the same about our poor choices
  24. I jumped in defense of Malaysia since I consider it best value for money in BKK along with Om Yim / rooms at Malaysia are more spacious though /. Yes , one still had to pay to computers access in the lobby . When I was there exactly year ago boys were gone, chased out by the management apparently but recently somebody / ChristianPFC ? / reported new sightings on them at front so hopefully all back to normal at Malaysia. From website it looks that DDInn is also very good value for money, specially at such seaside location, very handy for Bamboo bar treats too.
  25. you are right, probably they meant' 25 years to retirement" which would work around your guess
