No I'm not from one of those s_hole countries. I'm well versed in electoral process in many jurisdictions , including mine and USA. I don't question Trump clear mandate, I just don't share your enthusiasm about electorate and its choice. as for promises : 1/ we will see in 4 years what comes of them 2/ even when kept, often realised promises turn out not exactly what was hoped for. Word of caution about calling countries shithole even if many of them are. Often though they solved many problems much better than supposedly more affluent and illustrious ones.

Restaurant buys untaxed raw materials and converts them to more or less edible goods it can sell for markup. Thus potato bought for 4 satangs is being converted to 25 baht fistful of French fries and this is taxed. Generally taxes like VAT are regressive as amount is the same whether paid by poor street sweeper or rich Western pensioner. Of course rich people pay more because they consume more expensive goods. For governments advantage of taxes like VAT over income tax is easiness to control compliance and collect it.
