Am I the only person bored senseless reading the word libel being thrown about all over the place on gay forums of late... a lot of crap, some people need to have a word with themselves and chill out, we're here ( well most of us are) for a bit of light hearted fun not a legal symposium on who said what when and whether one has a case to sue or not. Thankfully we're not ALL wedded to that American (or Thai) style of living and suing on a whim "just yet" and most people can move beyond such needless idiocy of having such shallow threatening conversations - and yes I know Thai libel law...the most harsh thing ever etc etc, yes we've all heard it a million times, but REALLY do we need to keep going on about it and talking about veiled threats and the chances of such actions taking place, especially over a simple posts like "who's the owner of a hotel' etc. I mean if the person who was so concerned to post the board owner in the first place simply posted to the board "hey, I'm the owner ( or represent them as they implied), and they / I have been the owner now for ages so we do hope you all drop in for a beer or a meal sometime when passing" - job done, we all know the truth" and they get bit of free PR in to the bargain for their business too, but hell no, sure lets all talk about possible libel proceedings instead as that's much more interesting - sigh :-( I just hope no restaurant critic ever calls to ANY restaurant in Thailand to write a piece on their food as at the rate libel is talked about on the boards of late the poor chap will be in court before his dessert is even wheeled out to him !

No one can really answer that one except yourself I fear. I know a lot of thai guys do all go with their friends and have a great time partying with their friends all quite innocently on Silom during Songkran and likewise I know a few hot young guys also go to Silom and Soi 4 etc to and have a great time too with some fun farang friends as well. So, I guess your question isn't so much as about whether he should go alone or not but one more about whether you trust him trust or not and or whether you want to try and control him ( and good luck with that if you think you are good enough to try las many before you have tried and failed and only given themselves an ulcer whilst doing so). My view on such things is if he's going to cheat he's going to cheat and NO amount of watching or checking by you will ever catch him out (in time) or stop it if that's what he's intent on doing, so you'd either decide no, you can't live with that risk and just dump him now and be done with it and so avoid all that stress and pressure you've ( brought on yourself) with you wrecking your own head TRYING to check up on him all the time OR you just mentally accept whatever will be will be and stop that whole thought process going on in your brain and let him get on with whatever he's going to do and let the dice fall where it may. Meanwhile you'll having a much more enjoyable time with him and he'll probably end up be a much better boyfriend to you as he feels more relaxed and appreciative that you're not some crazed jealous farang stalker out to check his every move the whole time - and hey it he cheats he cheats so you're no worse off really. Plus if it's only asking for one day to enable him to head out with his mates on a Thai national holiday you can't "really" blame the guy perhaps, especially if there is a but of an age difference between you and him or his mates, so maybe that's not too much for him to ask ? And don't forget that you can always tell him that you in fact have decided to head to Silom YOURSELF for your own fun that weekend too and hey you guess you never know you just might or might not just see him around somewhere but you hope he has a good day !! :-) Oh and just in case you're thinking its all a mad sex fest that he's wanting to escape to it's not - as the pic attached shows - mind you, when it's farang and maybe 2000 hot and wet and horny Thai guys all wanting to stroke your face and play with you with water and paint in Soi 4, yeah I GUESS maybe one could call that a bit of a sex fun fest after all perhaps lol - well at least for most of the farang in attendance anyway perhaps !

@ alex - firstly thank you for the compliment on the quality of my "rant" - or as I prefer to call it my opinion and to answer your question, yes I have, many times in many countries but hey perhaps Thailand is unique - but doubt it. The other thing I can never quite understand is are people REALLY that skint ( or tight) that they choose / prefer to sleep on some dodgy, perhaps cum covered / barely wiped faux leather mattress, in a tiny usually roasting warm, non air conditioned cubicle, with no blanket or even basic sheet or covering etc, with god knows what having been going on there 10 minutes before you arrived as opposed to staying in a proper clean(ish) bed in even the likes of a hostel and all for what - to save a few hundred baht - I mean really there's saving money and then there's just being pure CHEAP, if you can't afford that few hundred baht I would really be questioning your choice of spending the several hundred pounds it probably cost you to travel to Thailand in the first place.

See this is why the staff in saunas end up having to come round switching on lights and a banging on doors and generally being a nuisance, sometimes even having policies of having to clear complete areas of some saunas for up to 10 minutes every two hours etc - and all because some people decide to use their sauna cubicles as hotel rooms to get themselves a cheap nights sleep as they are too miserable to book even a cheap hotel room for themselves ! :-( There's a very good reason why saunas are for fun and hotels are for sleeping and we could do worse than remember that rather than taking up cubicles and ruining other peoples fun , who it should be remembered have also paid their entrance fee just like you and expect to be able to actually use the facilities there too.

As well as all of the above and answers such as ease of remembering a child's nick name or it being given the name of the first thing the parent sees etc there is also the angle of the child being given a "false" ( nick) name immediately at birth so that the spirits can't hear or find out the child's real name to avoid them being able to haunt / possess / bring bad luck ( or something like that ??) to the child in it's life.

No, I can't say for SURE as Phet hadn't come on my radar (if you'll excuse the pun :-) in a way that I'd particularly noticed him before, but the rest of them are like looking at a list of old long lost friends as I hadn't visited that site in a long time as the guys didn't ever change, but lets hope you're right and he or someone else is still updating things, albeit on a slower scale now perhaps.

Wow, excellent video, I was expecting someone's badly edited home movie attempt but that was excellent, he should sell his services to TIT ! Bob I'm sure you're right and absolutely believe that 99.9% of tourist won't see a thing unless they go looking for it, however it is difficult when watching TV, reading your own government's official warnings and knowing that things COULD change for the worse fairly quickly ( or not of course) when one is sitting here in my case in the UK and wondering "will i go ahead and book for Songkran or just hold off and go somewhere else". So I do hope ( for purely selfish reasons I openly admit) that they sort their differences out sooner rather than later, but it appears that so far anyway that may not quite be the case just as easily this time around perhaps mores the pity :-(

Only a week ago I had a friend who now works in Copa, plus one of his friends, who he's very relaxed around sexually and a guy that I picked who turned out to the "straight' but actually wanted to fuck my Thai friend ( and ended up discovering that he maybe wasn't being quite as straight as he'd perhaps thought :-) all back with me for one hell of a hot foursome in my room all night. ( I'll keep that for another night :-). So may advice is to go out, have a genuinely good night with the guys, spend a few baht, let them see you're up for a good time too and don't be sitting counting every baht as it leaves your wallet and that goodwill will ( if you've picked the right guys) be repaid in spades as I know that night the actual money for the guys was almost not necessary ( ha it Thailand so note the almost ) as we'd all had such a good night, but of course being fully aware that it's the guys "work" and they have rent to pay like the rest of us it was put it in their pockets without any money it being asked for or discussed and that will keep everything sweet for our next merry meeting. And you know what I don't regret one SINGLE baht of any of it as the mental images I have will stay with me a lifetime and fucking one guy whilst the other two hot as hell Thai guys are fucking just an inch or two away from us with us all intertwined or them ( totally at their own doing) all working on me together at one time and with every trick in the book that they know being utilised to get me off and give me one HELL of an orgasm I'll never to forget - yep, absolutely worth every baht and with the right guys and the right attitude and atmosphere all round I highly recommend it as a very enjoyable evenings entertainment !! :-)

Just be aware though Christian ( as I know these things matter to you) that there is an entry and exit visa tax ( or whatever they call it but bottom line you pay I think about 15 US dollars or equivialent to enter and maybe 5 or 10 dollars to leave - sorry can't remember the exact amounts. However as I was saying to you when we met I found Bali to be very inexpensive so you'd quickly recoup that expense - plus the gay life / action there ( in Simenyak at least) was great I thought - although with your very specific preferences re boys etc perhaps you should check a few of the guys on GR first just to ensure that they your sort of guys as they ARE very different of course to Thai boys bodies and looks etc ( but all in a good way I thought) but of course you may / will have your own view on that point I'm sure.

After saying well done etc I then went over all the probable ins and outs of actually "owning" a bar in Pattaya rather than just working in one and asked him was he sure and had he really thought this through and he then proceeded to give me quite a few (surprising) facts and figures for things that I wouldn't have even expected him to have thought of so it appears he had gone into it in some detail. The one thing that did surprise me most of all was the very low ( thai to thai ) selling price ( as opposed to what's usually quoted to us faring) - I'll not mention the price as if the bars for sale I don't want to crap on the owners chance of getting a good price for it ( caveat emptor though I think is the best thing I can say there) and yes he possibly mentioned that the bar was up for quick sale as it needed to be sold quite (very) quickly to pay off a debt. Thankfully after hearing no more about it for a few weeks my friend came back and said he ( and his Thai business partner) had changed their minds and he was now more interested in opening a papaya salad bar of all things ! I'm guessing at least that the investment and risk required both in time, effort and or skill may not be quite so heavy as owning a bar and so I wished him every success with it and look forward to seeing how he gets on ( I'm guessing it's never going to happen! ;-).

It was always interesting to call in for for a beer and watch the human side of things unwrap as you may have seen a single guy come in one minute looking for a boy - usually Russian for some reason and more often than not even hammered or off his head on something) and then perhaps a mixed gender couple where the older type lady was looking for a boy for herself and maybe the husband wanted to watch or join in or vice versa or all three ! I was friendly with one of the guys from the bar and we spent a bit of time together with some of the staff over songkran one year and the crack was always good and some of the stories they told about the "str8" ladies and their requests and their hygiene of all things would have turned you ! My only complaint ( and I can't believe I've turned in to one of "those" people saying this on a gay forum!) - but the music was too damned loud ! However before being cast as some old fogey ( as 'm not)I should point out that the music was intentionally set almost to deafening levels. This I think was a throw back to the first year or two of the operation of the bar when they used to have their sliding doors fully opened but a black drape placed completely covering the door with guys where outside dancing out on the street and this needed the music loud to get through the curtain to give a "club" feel going to both add a little mystic to the place and to whet the passers by interest and also make them stop to look through the curtain ( where they were grabbed by a waiter to come in) and for the place to perhaps look busier / more exciting than it actually was. I'm told it was also to keep on the right side of the police as well, however I seem to recall they were ordered to stop doing the outside dancing part ( or decided to stop paying those who allowed it) and so the door had to be permanently closed over - but it seems no one told the DJ to alter the volume of the music accordingly hence the volume, resulting in shouting in each ear and then playing a bit of a guessing game was the only way of deciding where in the "Hello, what your name" list questions you actually were as neither party could hardly hear a word the other was saying - which actually i found wasn't such a bad thing sometimes :-) But it's a pity it's closed as I quite liked the idea of a / some gay bars / club on walking street and think they would still work if set up correctly and it was always nice to have somewhere gay to pop into for a beer when out doing the normal walking street thing of an evening while getting away from Sunee / BT etc for a while.

just out of interest do they give a reason for stopping their service, whereas I mean is it purely down to a lack of customers using the route i.e. a sign of less Americans heading to Thailand perhaps for some reason or is it part of some other deeper company restructuring plan perhaps ( which is even more annoying sometimes when it DOES appear to be a viable, profitable route and they STILL cut it in-spite of of customer demand perhaps??
