Nervous First Timer to Rio

Feeling safe, don't think is the same as actually being safe (maybe lucky?). When I go to Porto Alegre , I feel safe....then the guys tell me how it's a very dangerous cities in Brasil, so I just looked up murder stats...and Salvador is even higher on the list, 25 vs 39. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_murder_rate And from a different website: Salvador Though this part of Brazil is by far one of the most photogenic and architecturally pleasing, it’s not worth taking the risk for the sake of a keepsake photo. Even locals warn people to stay as far away from Salvador as possible, as the number of homicides are enough to make anybody cower. Thanks in large part to prison gangs, Salvador has become the most violent city in Brazil, with violent crime rates higher than the world’s other majorly violent cities. The beautiful town has become increasingly vulnerable due to violence and drugs, and avoiding it would be wise. -
Depends on what part of town and how nice/luxurious you want it to be.....to live with the locals in some areas, you can buy a house for 25k usd.....Centro or one of the nicer neighborhoods plan on 100k -250k. USD I paid my Taxes last week, they were $12usd...insurance was about 800 usd, maint---depends on the type of house you get , but labor is VERY cheap and plumbers, electricians are ridiculously cheap compared to US & Canada. Many people hire housekeepers either full time or just 1 or 2 days a week....some of the bigger houses hires full time staff , cleaners, gardeners , maint people, nanny, depending on how much money you have ...avg wage for full time people is 10 usd a day, if they are casual help that come once a week or so they charge about 15-20 usd a day.

was my experience ....I'll NEVER go back because of this....2 times on 1 weekend, I've traveled all over Mexico and the cops are known to be corrupt, this place is on a level all its own, smh

Go to the Northeast, perfect weather year round and guys that typically don't travel to GIG or GRU to work....and cheaper. Now that I've gotten your curiosity , when are you booking your ticket.....or did you already before you replied, lol
