Your description of busy Pattaya and Jomtien was what I found during my 3 weeks the end of January / early February. Then the explanation was the Chinese New Year with hotels full of families celebrating their principle festival. I had assumed that I could find a room in either of the two most popular Complex gay orientated hotels Zing or Agate . That assumption proved wrong and I had to take one or the 500 rooms for a week in the huge Jomtien Resort, which despite whilst being excellent with impressive facilities is not the sort of lodging I gravitate to, before I was able to move to the Agate. It would seem that in high season there is always some sort of festival in progress crowding out us gay visitors from our 9 months a year favourite Oasis’. I suppose the obvious answer is to book well ahead .

Olddaddy The location of the Jomtien Palm Beach Resort given by daydreamer is correct. Here’s a picture of the main entrance which you reach after a short walk down the access road from Beach Road. However I didn’t use it after my first day as I found a more convenient entrance near the rear of hotel (designated Jomtien Wing) close to the elevators for my 9th floor room. There was what looked like an access check station desk but during my stay it was never manned. In fact I never presented my joiners from the Complex (3 boys over 4 nights - one twice) to the reception desk. Here In the early evening there was a piano player which was a first for me after 22 years visiting Pattaya. During my stay I didn’t notice any obvious bar boys being brought in, which was definitely not the case at the Agate (gay friendly) where I transferred to. I did enjoy the huge swimming pool on two mornings before it became crowded with Chinese families there for New Year holiday, but not the bowling alley, gym or snooker tables.

Yes Olddaddy I’ve stayed at Zing quite a few times, but my last minute trip it did not have availability for the period of my trip. Instead I booked the Agate for nearly a fortnight plus several days at the Jomtien Palm Beach. The latter is a huge resort hotel the type of which I wouldn’t normally choose, but I arrived late at night without reservation and it was my only immediate option. I checked at reception about joiners and was told that they preferred to have copies of ladies id’s, to which I replied that in my case it would be boys. The answer was “boys ok” which indeed turned out the be the case - the boys I had there were definitely ok !

What annoys me about baht buses when boarding them at South Pattaya Road for the trip to Jomtien is the insistence that they are loaded beyond safe capacity. Every seat must be taken and then the rear platform needs to have at least three persons standing before the driver sets off. This applies even at quiet times such as early morning (ie 8 am in Pats). I’ve seen older women clinging on at the rear really scared at the prospect of falling off, which I know has happened in the past causing serious injury. During my recent stay in the Jomtien Complex I’m glad to say that I only visited BT twice and Sunee once which minimised the experience I describe. Jomtien now seems to provide all the essentials for gay tourists like myself: good hotels, night time entertainment, restaurants , Dongtan Beach and most importantly boys.

Old daddy well there used to be discussions on this board as to the merits of twinks as against hunks. I think a lot of todays members would love him in their bed, I’m told he very occasionally appears on Grindr.

Very few Macaroni ! He certainly created a stir around the area I was sitting . I wish there were a few more boys coming to the gay beach like in the old days. He would be a dream boy for me.

I took up my place in the second concession from the toilets at about 12-00 As normal I selected a chair in the third row from the i became aware that heads were turning at the waters edge to see a lovely visage - a really lovely Asian boy was walking along accompanied by a pretty girl. They spotted the two vacancies next to me causing me to fix my eyes on the couple as they slowly moved Forward to claim them. I was excited at their approach especially when after organising their things on the table the boy removed his casual pants and top to reveal a beautiful toned body only wearing a sexy thong and then laid down on the lounger within 3 feet of me. I had to say something and came out with “Hello you really look lovely today” - to which he replied with a thank you. I followed up with asking them if they were going swimming - “not yet” was the response, but obviously my attempts were not going to be successful so I went back to my book, After a short while the boy stood up so I took the photo which he seemed to approve of. He moved back down to the water and strolled along perhaps looking for a possible boyfriend showing his great body. I can’t get him out of my mind - I wonder if anybody else has come across him on the beach ?

Back to the subject of sex shows in Pattaya -I attended a rather mild one in the Complex last night . Deprived of the ability to host gogos several of the bars have began staging what could be described as Cabarets featuring lip syncing ladyboys and dancing by the mainly twink bar boys. I arrived at the Best Bar hoping to hook up with my offed boy from Thursday to find only a couple of boys around, one of which, on sitting down next to me, said that he was preparing for a show which would commence shortly, firstly outside and then later inside when curtains would be drawn as it was ‘be sexy show “ . Outside the boys, including my previous off and a ladyboy put on an animated singing / dancing performance which attracted a good audience of passers-by. After a pause we moved inside which was full, but my new boy secured us a table by the stage. The show then alternated between the three lip syncing separate ladyboys and the dancing boys wearing less clothes than previously outside. I’m not keen on ladyboys syncing but what took my attention was when two hunks appeared stripped down to briefs and then covered each other with soapy water to display their large cocks within. They circulated in the audience who scrambled to push 100 baht tips into their briefs, in contrast for the lbs who got very few . Back in my hotel room and in bed with my off my thoughts went back to the hunks so as to manage my first top of my trip. Such shows will propel Supertown further as the premier gay venue super-ceding the now much reduced BT

Ok Hi Asian Explorer if you haven’t been to Pattaya for 10 years it’s not suprising that you were amazed because there have been a lot of changes since then. you mention walking st but that location is not known now for gay life. Most of the action is now in Jomtien in what old timers like me refer to as the Complex which is being rebranded as Super town several of the many gay bars there have shows which is step towards having gogos. I went there last night and struck up an encounter with a twink, of which there are many across the Complex. Didn’t off him because I was v tired hsving just arrived from England. I’m on Dongtan gay beach just now - many other gays in evidence enjoying the sunshine and warm weather, but few boys. Probably resting before the evening activities. Will go there tomorrow to check it out more. regards dave l

I had heard about the election shutdown whilst on the Dongtan gay beach . I wondered if Jomtien would be exempt as I had not seen any election / like activity . Had a walk down to Supertown but found it not super at all in fact a veritable ghost town. Reverting to plan b I went to the corner 7-11 only to find the booze cabinet locked and an official looking notice attached. Exiting and walking back to my hotel where I considered the situation and moved to plan c - ie calling the boy from the previous evening. No response . At that point if being 10:00 pm Plan d became operational. Picked up my book by Michael Connolly read a few chapters and went to sleep.

Totally different Pantherz Im on the gay section which is used 90% by retired expats and older guys like myself on holiday from North America and Europe. years ago quite a few younger Thai boys used to turn up in the afternoon but not now. There are usually even some the odd female infiltrator perhaps assuming they will be safe from male attention. It’s rather sedate with most users reading or chatting together . You can order alcohol but it’s really quite a sedate scene;

I’m sat on Dongtan Beach . It’s now 12:30 pm. With the naked eye I can see Koh Larn vaguely through the mist: smog.(?) whereas when I arrived at 10:00 the mist was much thicker and Koh Larn was lost , I’m not experiencing any breathing difficulties and in fact yesterday I went out at 6:30 for a run without difficulties. Didn’t do that today as I had company !. The beach is now fairly busy and my section is filling up. The sea is calm but earlier it was like a millpond. Temperature estimate 28 deg. Pattaya is rammed and traffic horrendous . Any danger to health is on the roads,

Asian Explorer i don’t think your recommendation about Pattaya Walking Street and a straight sex show will attract many adherents from this forum. We are a gay board after all . Boys having sex with boys is more our theme, However I can agree with you about Pattaya’s wild and vibrant night life (str and gay). I’m there at the moment and whilst I’ve only been here since yesterday I have experience a sample already,

I arrive in 3 days . First pattaya few days then bkk . Probably ok in pats . What’s the temperature like. Told its cool at night.

Interested in your visit to Koh Tao Ichigo. I went there 5 years ago with a str friend. Got there by flight to Samui and then high speed ferry to Tao Wanted to take my boyfriend of that time but he wouldn’t go - said it was too dangerous with bad people. I enjoyed a few days there especially swimming to view the beautiful fish. Didn’t seem to by any gay life there at all.

Why indeed ? Jason You can easily switch the topic back to BOYS. Always a popular subject !

Two decades of Pattaya expat nutters, weirdos and crackpots
Travellerdave replied to reader's topic in Gay Pattaya
Thanks - yes I will definitely find it. It’s a bookshop after all. Anyone resident in Pattaya will know where it is, because most visitors to Pattaya will be keen to maintain their reading during vacations. Probably the town hall gives literature support as part of their cultural program in addition to their encouragement of dance for young people. -

Must buy this book. Available at Canterbury Tales Bookshop in Pattaya. This is no longer located in Soi Pothole but in Soi Bongkot (?) wherever that is. -
Two decades of Pattaya expat nutters, weirdos and crackpots

I’ve tried a few times to locate this book on Amazon and kindle without success. I’ll have to try and find it during my next trip coming up soon. in fact there appears to be nil books of particular interest to us gays available there, whereas the literature coveting str bars, girls, walking street etc etc even ladyboys is substantial. Doesn’t bother me too much as my attention is directed towards other lea-sure activities whilst in Pattaya. One sequence of posts on YouTube is however of definite interest to me concerns the twice weekly late night Cabaret shows at The Venue Jomtien Complex which feature very hot boys dancing in briefs creating a show and a rosing the mainly male audience. Can’t wait to be there in person. Anyone seen the show ? -

Barry Kenyon is also the author of another great book about Pattaya in which he talks about his experiences dealing with British visitors and expats and their disasters and problems. Basically “Brits in the Shit.” Hell of a good read. I downloaded it from Amazon a few years ago. -
making a series like daddy’s Asians would pose a number of challenges but would appeal to me, of course with myself taking the star daddy role. - I would need good equipment - movie camera and lighting. However they could probably be hired. Presumably the cameraman would be gay. How to prevent him exceeding his role and joining the action ?. He would also be a producer, giving the star instructions so as to film the best and most appealing sequences. - Recruitment of the boys how ?I would be worried that they would go to the authorities. How much to pay them ? Would you inform the venue what was taking place. I would need some guidance and expertise as to how to launch the material on the internet,. I don’t think,YouTube would be possible. Definitely not. How to moneterise allowing payment by card i wonder how much money Ken made for his efforts ? He certainly seemed to enjoy himself. Does he worry about all that unprotected fucking, sucking and rimming. -.

Reflections on Jomtien Complex November 2024
Travellerdave replied to Londoner's topic in Gay Thailand
Thanks guys for your up to date impression of the Complex which I read with interest as I’ve just booked a trip in January, commencing with a few days in the Complex. Londoner mentioned the Agate hotel, which I tried to book but they had no availability for my dates. High season of course, when the boys are at their happiest. -
Great report Foolish particularly as regards your visits to Toyboys and Koh Larn. I always incorporate a trip to the island during my visits to Pattaya, choosing to go when I have acquired an attractive “boyfriend”, buying him some sexy speedos, and when the weather is good. I like Nual beach in the south with its tribe of monkeys, but beware of sharp coral when going into the water, which can give you a souvenir of a nasty cut on the feet. Renting a motor bike is a great way to see the island provided that you have the confidence and experience of bikes. Can be a great day at low cost in contrast to a visit to Toyboys with its rip-off drink prices, although they do have some of the hottest boys.

About 10 years ago I became friendly with another gay Brit who had developed a considerable ability in verbal and written Thai language including its dialects in Isaan and Cambodia. This ability he often did not reveal to Thai people including during his interactions with bar boys. Whilst I sat with him in bars enjoying drinks he amused me sometimes by telling me what the boys were saying about us and generally. We kept in touch but his visits to Pattaya ceased after he started an immigration advisory business back home in England.
