Pattaya Thoughts -July 2015 Visit

Some brief notes from my July trip...at least what I can remember of it. As usual, we party pretty hard and by the time I return home and get some time to write up a report, some details are lost.

 

Biggest difference with this trip was our decision to stay at a Condo in Jomtien instead of our usual Mosaik apartment. There is a lot to love about Mosaik, but the beds are just way too hard for my comfort. So it was time to try something new. And it really was a change for the better.

 

We had a 1-bedroom condo, so bed separate from kitchen/living area. Also had a 2nd full bathroom which came in handy. Kitchen was small, but decent sized fridge, microwave, a couple of burners, hot water appliance...really all we needed. AND THE BED WAS FREAKIN AWESOME !!! Lol. Seriously, made a huge difference to me as I slept great and had much more energy throughout the trip.

 

A great part of the condo setup is access to a very nice pool area. We invited some of BFs friends over for a late afternoon swim. A couple of ladies and a ladyboy, all from his hometown and friends since childhood. Not my typical guests but fun for a change, one of the ladies was pretty large and apparently has some Arabic customers who prefer a bit more meat. Ladyboy was rocking a bikini and within 15 minutes at the pool had made a friend with a Falang resident. They disappeared for a bit into his room, so a profitable visit for her.

 

As we typically hang out in Sunee every night, I was a little concerned about being a bit far away but it worked out ok. Might be different in high season.

 

Speaking of Sunee, the bars were quiet. Real quiet. I did my best to inject some serious money into their coffers over the course of 6 days, but I think the situation calls for the intervention of NIrish quickly.

 

Eros- quite the same in a very good way and my favorite stop each night. Frisky fun and always well run...just perfect. It was here one night that I witnessed the first of 2 incredibly energetic cum shots. A lad I had not seen before joined me for a drink on the couch. Fairly average in all respects, but a great smile and wonderful personality. As usual, things were taken in hand and within minutes...wow...all over his chest and pretty sure a fair amount flew over his shoulder. I exclaimed my delight with his impressive load and he just grinned sheepishly...and grabbed a BUNCH of tissues.

 

Sunny Boys - big disappointment here. An ok first visit, but on my 2nd time a dancer grabbed my hand at the door to escort me to a seat. I didn't recognize him but assumed he was just eager for a customer. Well, quite a bit too eager as he also ordered himself a drink without asking while plopping down next to me. When I asked why he was so impolite, just replied with a rather conceited Thai smile. Enough for me and I was out of there...not to return.

 

Usually, this had been a pretty well run place, but on that night the waiter was not helpful, the Falang owner no where to be found, and the skinny Thai guy that seems to run the door was too busy watching a Thai soap opera at the next-door restaurant to be bothered. Sorry to see this place so crappy now.

 

Nice Boys: another favorite that I enjoy with each visit. Most of the staff here are not at all my style, but they are always friendly, joking around, playful, and just fun to be around. A very well run place. Some of the fem Thai boys like going with me here to check out the manly Thai guy's equipment. They chatter about what they saw for the rest of the evening. Priceless fun.

 

Power boys: a bit tame and uninspired....ok, maybe even boring. Mamasan knows better with me, but can be a pain in the ass for some. Good selection of twinks here, which is its saving grace for me. Also has the best air conditioning of the Sunee gogo bars if you need a break from the heat.

 

Good Boys: a couple of good visits here. "Straight" to the point bar with a "show" starting within seconds of taking a seat behind the screens in the back. Also, once you get started, the rest of the staff are quite eager to be next in line. Not at all playful as some of the other places, but definitely the place to go for a quick stroke off when in the mood.

 

When not at the various gogo bars, we typically camp out at Duc bar each evening. It is sort of the Crazy Pub replacement for us with a couple of the same staff working there now. It is a bit smaller and no billiards table. I enjoy that they play Thai music all evening instead of western choices...actually feels like I am on vacation someplace in Asia instead of a worn-out dive bar in Cleveland. LOL. We always have a bottle of blend285 open and just chill with our friends.

 

We didn't off anyone from gogo bars this trip. Actually, most of the time an off from gogo bars tends to disappoint me. We seem to have much better luck making friends from beer bars or tam nam Isan. This trip proved quit the same.

 

(I considered posting some details about activity here, including the circumstances around the 2nd amazing cum shot, but will refrain as many posters know both myself and BF. Not really polite to share in a public forum with those facts in mind...so sorry, no a447 type reporting from me...)

 

As I am sure most would expect, we visited Tam Nam Isan quite a bit. Not much to report here as it did not change at all...thankfully. It was surprisingly busy each night when considering how quiet the gay bars seemed to be. Though I have no idea how Boyztown business was running as I never made it over there.

 

That's about all I have time for at the moment. I landed into a bunch of work upon my return, so busy trying to dig my way out. I will post more in a bit, including a visit to Isan for some time with mama and papa.

I hate hard beds as well.  Years back I bought a 4 inch memory foam mattress which I transport with me everywhere.  I got a Full size one that makes any bed comfortable and I roll it up and put into an army duffle bag.  I know that sounds nuts but it has come in handy more than a few times and would make those beds at the Mosaik doable.

I too thought your post was excellent.

 

As for the part I quoted, the owner, Raimond, is there every night.  If the boy ordered a drink without your permission, you would have been well served to inform Raimond.  Knowing him, I believe he would have removed the drink from your bill and later would have had a little 'chat' with the boy who did that - and that behavior would not be repeated.  If he has boys doing that, he needs to know it.  That's the kind of behavior that drives customers away.  And you saw for yourself - the Sunee Plaza bars can ill afford to be driving customers away these days.

 

It's one thing if you order a "drink for boy," but the boys don't get to order their own drink without the customer's permission - in any bar - especially if he plopped himself down with you uninvited.  You don't have to put up with that.

Interesting how every thing comes down to personal experience.  Lots of glowing reports on other sites about Sunny Boys but those are only guides to some ones experience on that night and do not guarantee you will have the same experience.

 

Bottom Line, you have to go to all the Bars yourself and not rely on what else someone else had for an experience.

I have chatted with Raimond many times. On this particular evening, he was not around. It was very much a case of the lunatics running the asylum.

 

i did not put up with it....i left. If i would have seen Raymond..or even the slim harry-potter looking guy that seems to have a hand on running the place, I would have let them know. But Raymind was not there and the other guy was camped out next door watching tv.

 

It was not important enough to me for any other action. But i have a long memory regarding the impolite boy and will probably only be back to sunny boys if i see Raymond out front.

 

Michael - good info regarding the mattress pad. Sounds like it would take care of the concrete beds handily. Unfortunately, i travel.light and refuse to check luggage with the airlines under most circumstances, so probably not an ideal solution for me. Also, we really liked the vibe at the condo. Much more comfortable and home like instead of feelling like hotel. For now, we will probablg staying there on future visits.

Absolutely right.  Not only that, but I like to judge for myself as to how attractive the boys are.  I see too many posts saying good looking boys are in this bar and not in that bar.  Wrong.  Doesn't it occur to those posters that not everyone has the same ideas as to what constitutes good looking?  I'll decide for myself, thank you very much.  And the only way I know to do that is to do exactly what firecat69 says - go to the bars and see for yourself.

Well it's good to read the reports. 

Also, when I go somewhere like Bangkok for just 2 days and the drinks are over 400 baht each, I'm not planning to visit every bar in town.  OK, so now I visit bars based mainly on previous experience, however recent recommendations are still useful.

 

If spending longer somewhere, of course the best way is to check bars out yourself.   Even then it might vary from day to day, depending on who is already offed or on their day off.

Why not?  Most of Bangkok's go-go bars are in the same general area.  You could easily walk in, take a look around, and if you don't like what you see, just walk right back out again.  Don't you do that anyway?

words of wisdom, an experience changes not only from person to person but also from day to day and at times even from hour to hour, empty bar at 9 may be very busy at 11 or other way around.

 

It's always valuable to hear other's opinion but always having in mind that it's just an impression , not statement of facts  

 

 

Great report anonone, I need to add that my impression of Good Boys from last visit is exactly the same like you described, fast fun behind the screen. Boys are up to the point and not time wasters but not pushy at all on another hand.

 

I agree with you about graphics in reporting, nothing wrong with it and fun to read but either boy or activity itself should be anonymous, just like in your description of Eros adventure.

 

After all there are two sides , us and boys and we are not sure if boy would be happy with open description of his still private , even if in the open , activities.

I am grateful for all reports members post and for their opinions - especially when they put their observations in the context of their preferences - for example: I like this bar, the staff are very attractive, my preferences in men is on the younger slimmer side.

Also about good and bad experiences. One knows what to expect and to make choices to some extend.

But it is always an adventure - one may walk out unhappy from a widely lauded place and have a great time at one generally criticized on this board.

The bottom line is not to be too anal, relax and try to have a good time. As a customer one is always free to walk out and look for a better experience next door.

What Condo did you stay at Anonone?  I've been looking at places in Jomtien, but at the end of the day, I prefer the devil I know... So a recommendation would be appreciated.

 

I always stay at Mosaik and I have to agree the beds are bloody hard. I've considered taking a foam mattress with me, just like Michael. But in the end it just seems too much effort.

I'm kind of puzzled with frequent complains about hard mattresses in Thailand, even if jumping from hotel to hotel never had this kind of problem. Perhaps  because I rarely sleep alone?

My quasi boyfriend from May trip was assessed  as  too fat by one  member and  ax-murderer faced by another one, I can't ask for more LOL

 

On another hand when few contributors advised me that I will not find much of interest in Sunee Plaza offerings other than Good Boys it turned out to be spot on.

And then anonone says above that he did not even made to Boyztown.

A foam mattress?  I don't know what use I would have for a foam mattress.  I've never looked for one. So I'm sorry, but I don't know where to buy one.  But if I were looking for one I know where I'd start - Index Furniture - on Sukhumvit, just north of Pattaya Klang - northbound lane.

Yes I do walk right back out again if I don't like what I see.   For the bars at street level, when the door is open it's also possible to do a quick assessment without even going in.

 

The reasons why I don't visit every gogo bar in Bangkok:

My stays in that city tend to be short -2 or 3 nights.  Over the years, I have been in every gogo bar in Silom except Tawan, where what I see outside the bar is enough. 

I know which bars might appeal and which ones have had nothing at all of interest at all in the past.  So I go in the ones that I expect to enjoy and the other bars only get a look in after that.  If I've been in a bar say 3 times in the last 8 years and it was never memorable, I'm just going to go to the more promising bars first.

Also, Bangkok door staff almost drag customers into the bars. I resist all that, but it's one more reason to go to the good bars first.

 

Compare with Pattaya, where I stay in town for longer and will visit almost all of the bars.

 

 

As for the other topic, well if anyone does know of a shop that sells soft foam mattress toppers at a sensible price, it's a useful one to put in the notebook.  Some Asian hotels have matresses that are very firm.  So if I ever make the mistake of booking 2 weeks in a hotel which has a rock hard mattress, a soft mattress topper would solve the problem.

or if you're in BKK, IKEA has a decent selection. I just bought one, too, coz the mattress in my condo is WAY too hard as well. I like hard mattresses, but this one made me wake up aching in the morning.

 

The one I got was apparently last season's model or something, as it is not listed on Ikea's website and the price was reduced from 10,000 to 6000. Great purchase, I sleep so much better!

This must be quite different to the sort of inch thick type on topper I have seen in Big C for 6000 baht I would be expecting to buy a full mattress.

OK  Work under control again for a bit, so time for the next installment of "Pattaya Thoughts".  The subtitle for this one: Isan and the accidental enema.

 

BF had been mentioning several times that we should go up to his village and spend some time with the family.  I enjoy the visits, but the travel aspect of it really wears on me.  As many of you know, I travel to Thailand numerous times throughout the year, but unfortunately my stays are limited to about 9 days each (one work week with 2 weekends).  Coming from the USA, it is a lengthy trip anyway, about 24 hours of trip time each way in my situation.  (3 flights, so 2 layovers).  Tacking addition travel into this week is just not great for me.  But when it comes to love...we do what we have to do.  LOL

 

So after 6 days of Pattaya bliss, we pack our bags and taxi to BKK.  (The Limo Pattaya, 1200 baht inclusive.  Much higher standard then the lower cost options of Mr T, Mr. Toom, etc. and worth it to me.  Very organized.  http://www.thelimopattaya.com/)  We board our Thai Airways (actually Thai Smile) Airbus for the 1 hour flight to Udon Thani.  Decent flight, seat room was adequate. 

 

The timing of this trip just really kills me.  As we have about a 2 hour drive once we land at Udon Thani, I really want to get there pretty early to avoid driving in the dark.  For an opposite-side-of-the-road driver like myself, driving in Thailand is difficult enough in the day time.  So, we have to get up about 9 AM to get packed for the 90 minute taxi ride to BKK in time to check in for the 1 hour flight to Udon Thani.  Again, for those that are familiar with my habits, waking up at 9AM is crazy.  CRAZY.  My body clock is all thrown out of whack now.  I think I manage about 2 hours of sleep before we pack and head out. 

 

Anyway, upon arrival at Udon Thani, I am met by the rental car agent to get the Triton pickup that will be my wheels for the next couple of days. This is my 2nd time using Lek car rental and both times were very good.  Vehicle in decent shape, easy to rent from them, staff always waiting for me on both pickup and drop off.  I think it was about 1,000 baht a day. http://www.lekcarrentaludonthani.com/

 

Major construction on highway 22 adds to the excitement of my sleep-deprived drive.  Thankfully, we arrive at the family abode without incident.  After a brief reunion with the family, we head to the nearby "resort" for some much needed sleep. 

 

For those that are not familiar, Isan is littered with these "resorts" which are bungalow/cabin type accommodations in clusters of groups. They are a combination of hotels for visiting falang, as well as "love shacks" for Thais that need to escape the close commune sleeping arrangements at home for a night.  Rate is usually 500 baht a night, sometimes 600 for a VIP cabin.  I didn't take many pictures this trip, but here are some from a previous visit at resorts.

 

 

 

 

So, we stay one night at this resort which is very close to the family home.  We crash for a bit until BF awakens at mid-night starving.  So, we motor back into the village for a quick bite of noodles from a sidewalk vendor.  A stop at 7-11 for some further supplies for the morning, most importantly coffee for the sleep-whacked falang, and then back to the resort for some more sleep.

 

Arising for my first and only full day in Isan, we pack up as BF heard about a better resort a bit further away and wants to check it out. After packing, we head to the house for further visit with Mama and Papa.  BF's bedroom furniture is falling apart, so we visit a fairly new home store out on highway 22.  We pick out a huge new closet/drawers/armoire type of thing with a bright blue cartoon character on the front. The Thai sense of style...love it.  Thankfully, they offer a very inexpensive delivery service so I am spared trying to heft this monstrosity into the house. 

 

That finished, Sister has recently built a home with her falang BF on one of their smaller tracts of farm land, so after lunch we pickup some beer / ice / snacks and head over there to check out their new home.  Quaint and charming, in the I-wish-I-had-electricity way. Seriously, no electric.  Talk about living simple.  Did I mention the "real-feel" temperature was 111 degrees that day?  While someday I could see us with a house out in the sticks somewhere...electricity is firmly established on my minimum amenity list. 

 

Anyway, we make plans for everyone to meet at the new resort in a bit for dinner as they have a pretty good restaurant there.  Little cabins on stilts over the pond are where you sit for dinner.  And they have a HUGE screen on which they project music videos and such for entertainment across the pond for the customers.   Wild.  I am told they can also use it for Karaoke, which would probably be a hoot. 

 

Dinner was nice.  Sisters falang BF was thrilled to have someone new to speak with...and in English to boot...so my ears were well and truly tired by dinner's end.  Very similar to the previous evening, we crash early.  Awaken for a post-midnight food run for the starving BF, and then back to sleep.  Oh, and of course much hanky-panky, but as mentioned before I will spare you the sordid details.

 

I didn't take many pictures, but did take some shots around the family home.  It is located in a very small little village, off the main highway a bit.  For those that haven't yet ventured up to Isan, here is what you are missing.

After a good night's sleep, we pack up once again.  We stop by the TescoLotus on the highway to load up supplies for the family home before I leave.  I let the BF go crazy loading up a cart with all sorts of goodies to tide him over during my absence. Actually, he is fairly reserved about this but I insist on having him get whatever stuff might be needed for the house.  Soap, laundry supplies, an incredible amount of mama soup...and a lot of chicken wings, which happened to be on promotion. 

 

After dropping off everything at the house, it was time for goodbyes.  Always sad to leave BF, though knowing I will be back in September helped lessen the sadness.  A big hug from Mama and Sister...a much more passionate and private goodbye from BF...and I am on the road, solo to Udon Thani.

 

Now, driving has been OK up to this point.  Lek Rental supplies a GPS and it worked like a charm.  The route from Udon Thani airport to BF house was all highway and very direct.  Absent the road construction, it is quite easy.  But, exactly as happened last time, this insidious GPS routes me back to the airport by going directly through downtown Udon Thani.  Now, it is not exactly Bangkok, but it is a decent sized city with plenty of darting scooters, hapless pedestrians, and an insistence on driving on the wrong side of the road.  In fact, during my last visit, this is where I clipped side mirrors with another driver, causing quite a bit of panic in my mind. 

 

And just when you think it can't get any worse, the GPS announces rather smugly..."proceed to the roundabout"...which is apparently what they call traffic circles...where there are no stops, lanes are "fluid", and exiting onto the correct path is half luck.  Thankfully, I was able to overcome all these obstacles and made it back to the airport with out incident this time. 

 

Oh, it was pretty funny when I pulled into the gas station on my way back into town to fill up before turning the vehicle back in.  I couldn't locate the little lever to open up the door to the gas cap.  Ended up with 2 Thai guys rummaging about the cab of the truck before they could locate it.  (one of them was really cute, too).  Anyway, next time I will be sure to ask where this is when picking up my next Thai rental car.  A little embarrassing.

So, catch my Thai flight back to BKK, with another taxi back to Pattaya.  I was originally going to stay in Bangkok for the final night, but I wanted to visit with my Pattaya friends (one in particular ) so I booked a quick room at Holidays Home and had one more night to party.  I was planning on a final visit to Tam Nam, but while hanging out in Sunee I wandered into a friend I had not seen in a long time.  We were having such a great time and playing with the staff at Duc bar, time got away from us and left no time for Tam Nam.  No real complaints as everything...yes everything...was quite good that evening.

 

That's about it.  I have blabbed on quite enough I think.  A 3AM taxi ride back to BKK and 24 hours of air travel puts me back at home, mired in work, but full of memories that will sustain me until September.

if you need to wake up at 9 a.m. just think that it's 9 p.m. at home, it should cheer you up.

 

I admire you have stamina to  go through those 24 hr flights to be in LOS only a week or so but I think at end of day this is better option - few shorter trips rather  than one long one  when at end of stay one feels worn down a bit.

Yes.  Don't feel bad.  When I first heard the term, it took me some time to figure out what the hell a "roundabout" is.
