gaperking Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 Hello, was a short while ago in Pattaya and Bangkok to see around. Former I found quite awful but latter I think I will return. This time I will use some hotel that is so to say guest friendly. Which one would you recommend in BKK? Does not need to be 'gay' hotel but just one that does not get difficult if I pop with a thaiboy. If you are planning travelling to BKK, you can drop me a private msg as well. Regards, Peter Quote
vinapu Posted March 21, 2015 Posted March 21, 2015 If you want to know what I think read this thread http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/9793-final-notes-for-december-2014-trip/?hl=notes Quote
paulsf Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I've never had any issue bringing back 1 or 2 boys to any hotel in Bangkok. I used to stay at the Tarntawan or Marriots. I now use an apartment so guests are not an issue at all. Quote
Travellerdave Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I always stay at the Tarntawan. Nice hotel and is known as a gay hotel. No problems with overnight boys. Quote
Guest LoveThailand Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Stayed at Malasia once or twice - no problem at all. Since then never at a specifically gay hotel - but no problems with guests - last visit FuramaXlusive near Convent Road. Highly recommended if you can catch a promotional rate. Quote
vinapu Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Only known hotel in the Silom area prohibiting visitors is Siam Heritage on Suriwong, should be no problem elsewhere but some may change joiner fees although it's while since somebody complained about those on gay boards.. Quote
Dalewood Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Vinapu, Allow me to join the others in thanking you for the bar and hotel reports. Next month will be my first trip to Thailand in many years---I had to give up overseas travel due to my mother's health. I taught English in Bangkok for a couple of years way back when. I am tempted to stay at the Tarntawan, but I think I will end up at the Malaysia. I will also be in Cambodia for few days to avoid Songkran---I have already done it in Phuket, Bangkok, and Pattaya. One day of water-throwing is plenty for me. vinapu 1 Quote
Guest Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 There is a big difference in cost and location between those two. I guess it depends on where you want to be spending your time and what your budget is. I have long been a fan of the Om Yim, although a few things were in need of fixing up when I was last there in December. Later on in the month, I tried the Baan Silom & quite liked it. Of course, Vinapu is the expert, as he's tried many hotels. Quote

Both choices have advantages and are joiners friendly. Tarntawan is pricey compared to Malaysia but much closer to the action, breakfast for two is included and quite sumptuous. Malaysia is less than half price , rooms are spacious and airy but you need to budget for breakfast / 100-130 /, taxi from Silom /55-65 / , past midnight 80-100, motorsai from Lumpini MRT /20 /, whatever you decide you win. Yes , tried many hotels as I like to sleep around in a sense you noticed in one of your comments to my thread. Expert I'm not because other than 2 nights per trip in Tarntawan I like budget hotels and only those who share my taste should pay any attention to my notes. At end of day I'm tempted to agree that Om Yim may be the best choice, close to everywhere, reasonably priced and appointed, no elevator though for those who care about those things. Recently I'm developing soft spot for Nantra Silom in soi 8 , very modern with basic breakfast included but room smaller than Om Yim. TMax 1 Quote
newalaan Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Not a lot to go on Peter, some detail would get more precise responses. Where in Bkk are you planning to stay? price range? and also importantly when? Even though you indicated the hotel does not have to be 'gay' it certainly makes for a more relaxed ambiance if gay. If it is silom area as Vinapu suggests there would be very few hotels who would object to a joiner/guest, some may take the 'opportunity' to charge for the guest, especially some of the high-end chains. If in Silom area, as others have indicated Tarntawan Place Hotel has a very relaxed, easy atmosphere and guests come-and-go all the time, you'll pay between Bt2,000 and Bt3,000 per night, but worth it in my opinion.I always book here at the end of a trip for easy access to Airport (45min-hour). I booked D'Varee, Silom (previously Ballys Suites) soi 2 silom right in the mix, for a short early June visit, huge range of prices depending when you plan to stay, deluxe/superior, with/without breakfast etc.. A Standard (described as deluxe) was Bt1250 when I booked 2-3 weeks ago, it is now Bt1440 for same. Not huge but modern rooms, nicely presented, nice bathroom with huge shower cabinet, flat screen TV, free WiFi, tea/coffee making facilities, wooden style flooring...and unlike Om Yim which is now very, very worn probably due to quality of original fixtures, everything is still in near-pristine condition at D'Varee. Hope some of this helps. Just as an aside, it would be interesting to know what aspect(s) of Pattaya you found 'awful'. TMax 1 Quote
Moses Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 As per me - Om Yim is good choice: very close to BTS, friendly staff and owners. Quote
kokopelli Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Just as an aside, it would be interesting to know what aspect(s) of Pattaya you found 'awful'. Gad, as usual I misread what people post. I thought the OP wrote "awesome" in reference to Pattaya. Good post newalaan. Quote
Guest ronnie4you Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 My experience must be dated if folks are now able to bring guys back to a hotel with no problem. Once at the Narai, security knocked on the door. I answered, and he said "Do you have a lady in your room?" Of course, I said no. But he insisted on checking for himself, and sure enough, there was no lady- just a hunky guy in his bikini. So, I was willing to pay the $40 surcharge, but the guy had no ID on him. That pissed me off. Why not? So he had to leave. At another hotel the name of which I forget, the manager was a gay friend of a friend. He told me there would be no problem with bringing guys back to my room. And, there wasn't. I had just escorted the guy to the lobby after a super wonderful time. Getting back on the elevator, a nasty looking guy in a suit joined me, but pushed a button for a floor higher than mine. You guessed it. He got off on my floor and insisted on checking my room for an unauthorized guest. Of course, it was empty by then, befuddling security guy. In the am I asked the gay manager about it. Later, he said he checked, and no security guy from his hotel had checked my room. Right. Every other time I tried, security nabbed us right at the elevator. So, I became aware of the Suriwong hotel. I just can't sleep in hotels that are not very comfortable and clean, but I can do an hour just about anywhere. Quote
vinapu Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 never , ever in Thailand and for that matter anywhere else I had a case of security or management insisting on checking anything in the room I occupied. Ronnie you must have a bad luck or poor unresearched choice of hotels in LOS. ChristianPFC and TMax 2 Quote
Guest LoveThailand Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 But Surivong hotel is notorious about this and about the only one with such policies. Quote
Guest Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Well, if none of the "reviewed" hotels appeal to you, it is possible to either take the risk or alternatively just e-mail the hotel and check their policy before booking. Then keep a copy of the e-mail. Quote
firecat69 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Actually Narai Hotel is famous for that and one of the few Hotels in BKK that could care less!! Quote
gaperking Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Thanx for all for replies. Much appreciated. I stayed at Silom Serene which was good but I did not try coming there with a boy. Has somebody tried hotel that is with Babylon sauna? Someone mentioned renting apartment. Is there any safety issue involved? I find hotels more secure. Somebody asked why I did not like Pattaya. Well. It was dirty, overcrowded, noisy... I did not visit hills although, I understood more classy hotels are there. I visit one of the islands about 8 km from Pattaya, that was nice although beach was short and I did not see monkeys nor rainforest as brochure suggested... Quote
paulsf Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I use an apartment, but it has a 24 hour security desk. I've never had any safety issues. Quote
NIrishGuy Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 What about the Bally suites next to the entrance of DJ, you can't get much more slap bang in the middle of the action - perhaps too much though based on the location and the 24/7 activity there on silom street over songkran perhaps ? http://ballys-studio.com/ Sorry I actually meant to post this in Colmx's thread about songkran hotels but as it also works here too ill just leave it up. vinapu 1 Quote
Guest Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 That's a potentially nice location. What we need is someone here to try it. As anyone done that? Here is the Trip Advisor summary. There are a few comments about the noise & note the poor score for sleep quality. Ballys Silom Comparison Om Yim I think recent Om Yim reviews seem to be worse. Possibly correctly. I have long recommended this budget option & have I stayed there for 7 consecutive years, but noticed deteriorating maintenance on the last trip. I may well be back as a guest, but it's no longer a given Baan Silom That's the other hotel I tried whilst passing through BKK again during the most recent trip. At the point where I decided some back up hotels are needed. Nice, for a few hundred baht more than the Om Yim. Quote

Guest maxchang Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 malayasian hotel is close to wongs bar, it's like a secret place open pretty much all night, lot's of gay guys go there. Quote
Guest Promsak Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 When I've passed Om Yim on the Skytrain, it looks as though it has a cemetery in it's back garden. Don't Thai boys find it spooky? Phi and all that. Quote
