Guest JamesBarnes Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I do hope that this week's offering generates a different sort of heat! http://www.out-in-thailand.com/five-things-i-love-about-thai-gays/ Best wishes, Quote
Bob Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Can't say I disagree with your comments, James. It does appear, however (this is meant more kindly than it probably sounds), that somebody needs to provide you with a box of hypens and/or grammar/wordwrap software in your Easter basket this year. NIrishGuy Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 hmmmm all true of but you left out the bit where they can if they chose also cause untold drama, scream the house down and or attempt to beat the crap out out of you either verbally or physically if they don't get their own way of course, so lets not do the rose tinted glasses thing there TOO much eh ....... But stories of poorly behaved Thai men do not sell magazines that survive on ads from vendors whose livelihoods depend on tourists coming to Thailand and partaking of the goods and services they offer, including services of the flesh from Thai men. This article is just as bad as the previous one in that it makes too many broad generalisations and is filled with hyperbole, including the obligatory homage to Buddhism. I'm surprised that someone who claims to have lived in Thailand for 17 years couldn't come up with something more nuanced and intelligent but I guess nuance and intelligence do not sell trade rags. vinapu Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 I agree with an assessment in OP and this is reason i keep returning. Yes , sometimes there were glitches but in retrospect they could be avoided if rose tinted glasses Nirish mentioned in post above would be put to good use. Untold drama mostly was caused by failed attempt to buy love instead of renting it as somebody wisely advised and while I feel sorry for cheated and abused farangs I believe they sow seeds of their own misery but forgetting that vacations are for body not for brain. Those of us who remember that boys are in the game not for our beauty but for some fun larded with money will always do well with smooth skinned and well behaved Men of Thailand. Quote

Interesting that you should say this. Did you get the impression that the article was only referring to Thai male prostitutes and sex workers? Quote
vinapu Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Interesting that you should say this. Did you get the impression that the article was only referring to Thai male prostitutes and sex workers? no, but I have an impression that most contributors here have mostly contact with those types and nothing wrong with it. Guest Prakanong Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 no, but I have an impression that most contributors here have mostly contact with those types and nothing wrong with it. And yet you saw the article as applying to "those types" from the way you responded to it initially. Quote
Guest FossilGay Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Reading James Barnes's articles reminds me of the story of the old man and his donkey. He tries to please everybody to capture as wide a readership as possible (and I presume, advertising) and as a result resorts to cliches and stereotypes that would be too embarrassing even for TAT. OUT is not totally hopeless though; some of the movie articles are quite interesting and informative. Quote
