williewillie Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Ignorant hyperpole. Attacking older farangs. Amazingly some here applaud it. Two peas in a pod perhaps? Quote
firecat69 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Maybe you have a reading disorder. I see no one applauding except maybe tongue in cheek. Even the worst article can have a kernel of truth as this one does . Still the OP gives no indication that he knows who his real audience is? But they are the people who frequent the only advertisers he has. Quote
williewillie Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 As for OutinThailand, I love what you are trying to do. At least you are attempting to get information out there. Keep it up. Keep trying and keep working hard and you will be successful. ) Reading disorder? Tongue in cheek?I call it applause. This nonsense is getting like Fox News. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I know it's a little advanced for you so go back and hang out with Surfcrest with one of your other identities! Quote
Bob Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Rather embarrassing and unnecessary attack, James. And I'd note: (1) While I agree with a couple of the points you're attempting to make, I remain dumbfounded why you elected to do that while attempting to brand all/many older expats with your distorted views. (2) Frankly, I don't recognize at all what or who you're talking about here in Chiangmai (I'm presuming you're talking about Chiangmai as that's where we both live). If you're talking about another city here in Thailand, please advise although that might make me wonder how would you know what occurs there. (3) Factually, where'd you get your information? For example, you make claims that some/many older gay expats are drinking booze/beer for breakfast. Frankly, while it's possible that there are a few around here that might do that (I've never seen it among the many older gay expats I know), I'm beginning to wonder if you just made that up out of thin air. Here in Chiangmai, you well know there isn't a single gay bar open in the morning (Soho lately has been opening up for lunch on some days but almost all the other venues don't open until 5PM or later). So where exactly are these older gay expats drinking at breakfast? I walk all over the city multiple times per week for years and I can only recall once or twice seeing anybody drinking alcohol in the morning and that was at the restaurant bars (hardly gay) along Moon Muang and Loy Kroh. It most certainly doesn't happen out here on the west end where I live. So, again, I must ask: where have you witnessed this occur enough such that it might merit making a blanket statement such as you made? (4) Unfortunately, it seemed obvious (perhaps only to me) that your unnecessary and overbroad swipe was in retaliation to the treatment you recently received from others on this board in a recent thread (I don't see you posting it elsewhere). Rather bad form in my view. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Why let the facts get in the way of a good ( sorry bad) story. Possibly he should have posted on the Board whose owner he may have perceived treated him unfairly. But maybe he is banned on that Board, seems to be a lot of that going around! Quote
williewillie Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Instead of discussing the facts as quoted, you try to distract and demean. Fox News . It's in black and white as quoted. Quote
TotallyOz Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Instead of discussing the facts as quoted, you try to distract and demean. Fox News . Fox News? I didn't know that was your favorite channel. I never really got into Fox. I much prefer the open honestly of Jon Stewart. But, if you enjoy Fox, just keep watching. It does often makes those that watch it a bit dumber than they were before they started watching. But, if you enjoy it, just keep watching. I'm sure it won't do any relevant damage. Back to the OP: I did not see the 5 statements made incorrect. I did not disagree with them. I did find the opening and closing a bit off base but it was an editorial and not a news article. At least that is the way I read it. People are entitled to their opinions. And, many think that all visitors that go to Thailand are going for the sex trade. That is not the case. But, it is widely accepted among many around the world. It does not make it true, it just makes it what many think. And, I have not seen the old men sitting around drinking beer for breakfast in the gay community but I have in other ones as many go for a short vacation and stay drunk the entire time. I don't think this is indicative of the expat community that lives in Thailand but I do think it represents some that visit. Quote

Dear Michael, Thank you for saying everything that I did not have the time to do! By the way, just 2 quick points that answer previous posts... I witnessed the brekkie beers in Pattaya and OUT iT no longer accepts print ads fom businesses that sell sex. Best wishes, Quote
TotallyOz Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 OUT iT no longer accepts print ads fom businesses that sell sex. Not sure the difference between the magazine accepting print ads and them putting listing information about them. But, I am a daft one as Willy will tell you. I say this as I see no issue with sex or commercial sex or businesses that promote sex. But, as I said, I am a liberal and open to all forms of sex without limitations. If your magazine agenda is one that desires to stop or limit commercial sex in Thailand, I hope you change that course. Again, just IMHO. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Interesting how Mister Barnes only refers to posts he agrees with and fails to answer why his veiled attacks on Gaybutton did not take place on his Board or at least both Boards. I guess that means I won't find the magazine at all the usual sex businesses that it was available at in the past. Might be nice if Mr Barnes replied to Bob who quite excoriated his whole premise and naturally he has no reply. Quote
TotallyOz Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 excoriated Jeeze, Firecat. Do you have to use such hard words? I mean, i am from Bama and Willy watches Fox News. We both may need you to use words we both understand. Quote
Bob Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 James is a decent guy (I know him) but that doesn't mean I have to agree with the tone or accuracy of his "older gay" comments...and I don't. Firecat, James did in part respond when he said he "...witnessed the brekkie beers in Pattaya..", such observation(s) apparently occurring on a vacation trip to Pattaya. Unfortunately, his response sadly supports what I was trying in part to say. Quote

bkkguy Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 OUT iT no longer accepts print ads fom businesses that sell sex. your January 2015 print edition includes numerous ads for massage venues that, based on the ad content, many of your (admittedly no longer important to you) sexpat readers would have assumed included a "happy ending" as part of the massage before we waste our Baht on visiting these venues and being disappointed, could you please confirm for us oyster eyed oldies that all of these venues do not offer sex services for a "tip", or at least clarify when exactly this new advertising policy was impilmented and could you also confirm that this new advertising policy also applies to not promoting "businesses that sell sex" by including them in the venue listings. I assume obviously not because your current online "Gay Guide to Bangkok" page introduction and Silom listings include "NB" (a notorious Silom Soi 6/Naratiwat Soi 1 commercial sex bar), a 2015 Reader's Choice Winner indeed - or will you be removing all the Reader's Choice votes from sexpats voting for sex venues? this sudden transition from not being dependent on aging sexpats is obviously not easy! and could you also confirm that this new advertising policy and this new-found realization that your future does not depend on aging sexpats means you will no longer be distributing the magazine in most of the venues it was in before - I mean you wouldn't one of your enlightened new target audience to find his copy disfigured by an aging sexpat's fingerprints - or worse drool! bkkguy fedssocr and khaolakguy 2 Quote

LOL haha Sorry, but it is just too comical. You are the original Bill O'Reilly. You don't believe half the shit you say, you just say it to get a rise out of someone, or a laugh with your buddies. I don't mean this personally, as I also abhor Fox News and everything it stands for. At least we have that in common. Quote
Guest FatRichard Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 It's interesting that Gaybutton openly acknowledges that the following description in the article fits him even though Gaybutton's name is not mentioned anywhere in the article: There is a group of old gay expats who have been in Thailand, some of them, for more than 30 years. These oyster eyed oldies can be spotted drinking beer at breakfast. With too much time on their hands, they lurk in online forums, ready to snipe and bitch and advise the newcomer of ‘how things really are’. There you have it, folks. Don't come to us "sad, jaded souls and trapped in their misery" anymore - not when you now know just where to find the real, high quality information. I guess if the flip flops fit, wear them. Quote
