kokopelli Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Has anyone seen this movie yet? What are your impressions? The premise of a failing ecosystem on earth and plunge in population with the hope of colonization on far away planets is intriguing. But the film was so darn confusing that I got lost in the first worm hole. The overbearing sound track just about ruptured my eardrums and some of the dialogue was so boring I almost fell asleep. As far as the effects of Einstein's Relativity that sort of made some sense except they never traveled at speed of light instead slipped through a worm hole. The film got some good reviews but too it was disappointing. Quote
baobao Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 While I could keep up with almost all of it (some took some reviewing on the way home) it WAS a convoluted series of sequences, but since I usually shun "spoilers" I won't mention any specific parts. I, too, found the sound was overwhelmingly loud; occasionally it was difficult to hear some of the dialog. I'd not checked the running time so had to give my bladder control a test, because with the usual glut of previews we get in the USA it ran a bit over three hours. There were a few scenes that reminded me of "2001". Quote
Alexx Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 I've watched it and, for me, it neither stands out as a very good nor as a very bad movie. But it's at least 30 minutes too long. Oh, and I didn't like the ending and would have preferred another outcome (<SPOILER EDITED OUT>), but that didn't surprise me. baobao 1 Quote
NIrishGuy Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Quite simply a thank you to whoever edited out the spoilers ( whether that by the authors of the post of a Mod) as I'm as guilty as the next man of chatting away about a film whilst forgetting others may not have had the time to sit down and watch it yet - which is the case for me for this film - so thank you, spoiler edit appreciated ! vinapu 1 Quote
kokopelli Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Having seen the movie I still am not quite sure what the ending was! Thinking back over many of the scenes I realize that few of them made any sense such as the robot drone, the robot combines, and on and on without spoiling anything. Also how were a few colonists supposed to "incubate" 10,000 fertilized eggs as if they were chickens. Quote
kokopelli Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Just came across this article in NYTimes entitled Interstellar - The Cinema of Physicists http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/18/science/interstellar-the-cinema-of-physicists.html?ref=todayspaper Quote
kokopelli Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 It seems that Interstellar has even made it to the Op-Ed pages of the NY Times with an interesting perspective on the film. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/21/opinion/david-brooks-interstellar-love-and-gravity.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=c-column-top-span-region®ion=c-column-top-span-region&WT.nav=c-column-top-span-region Quote
