Guest chicolby Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 What does anyone know about Kho Samed as a destination? I was supposed to visit BKK in a week but probably avoiding due to the coup. Is Koh Samed a good destination? Much gay life? Need recommendations please. Quote
Travellerdave Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I have been there twice more than five years ago. Once just for the day with a friend. We purchased a day excursion from Pattaya from a travel agent which included mini bus transport to Ban Phrea, (the ferry port to Koh Samet), the ferry to the island, the tourist tax (its a national park and non- Thais have to pay this,) lunch, and transport back to our hotel in Pattaya. The other time i took a boy and we stayed just for one night. Mini bus again to Ban Phrea and then ferry. The boy found us a bungalow to rent. There did not seem to be any hotels -just bungalows which i think can be expensive. I believe the island is busy at the weekends with Thais from Bkk. I was not aware of any specifically gay bars or beaches and you would be advised to take a boy with you. The beaches are far superior to those at Pattaya. For a first time visit it would be better to buy an inclusive trip probably from a travel agent. Quote
Guest chicolby Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 What about Phuket? Safe to go there during this time or just wait entirely for a better time? Quote
KhorTose Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 What about Phuket? Safe to go there during this time or just wait entirely for a better time? Yes, safe as far as the coup and politics are concerned. Nice beach, plenty of boys. CAUTION: Many scams starting with the taxi service down to jet ski rentals. Best to book a room ahead and have the hotel, guesthouse pick you up. Great info on Phuket here. http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/forum/38-gay-phuket/ Quote
