TotallyOz
We do not allow one user to have multiple handles on the board. Should we find out that a member has more than one handle and using them both at the same time, all accounts will be deleted without further notice. Please use one and only one handle on this board. Bob
If I had my druthers (and I realize I don't), nobody would be allowed to use a different handle anywhere. While there are times when people use different handles on different boards for valid reasons (the name isn't available or simply the desire to innocently use a given moniker), there are also times when somebody adopts a new name to attempt to escape his known behavior on other boards (a tactic that often doesn't work as the poster still can't control his style or bad behavior) or in an attempt to sneak through the door after having been banned. In any event, a very good rule in my opinion and I'm hopeful that the owner/moderator actually has the ability to enforce the "no hydra" rule. We may be having alien visitors soon from a another planet that is about to explode.

bkkguy
We do not allow one user to have multiple handles on the board. Should we find out that a member has more than one handle and using them both at the same time, all accounts will be deleted without further notice. A user having more than one handle is not inherently a problem, it is when a user uses those multiple handles in a disruptive fashion that it becomes a problem, so the rule should relate to the real problem - disruptive behavior - not multiple handles! There are I think some valid cases where a user may want to use more than one handle on this or other forums. for example you own this forum and you post here (and elsewhere) as Scooby and those posts are usually "official" posts relating to the Gay Thailand web site and forum and its operation - but what if you want to express a personal opinion in a post? should you not be allowed to use another handle to do that? I know people in bangkok and pattaya who run gay related businesses who post "official" news under one handle and personal opinions under another, I know Thai people who have different nicknames when dealing with family/home friends, school friends, work friends, bar friends, etc and have multiple handles on facebook, thai gay forums and some even on the general gay forums - not everyone leads one-dimensional lives! most of these people do not cause problems on forums by using these multiple handles for disruptive purposes so block the multi-headed hydra problem posters but not multiple handles bkkguy williewillie, vinapu and ChristianPFC
TotallyOz
I tend to agree with Bkkguy but the majority of people who have multiple handles are not those that do it to separate their business from their personal life. For the most part, they are either those that create the names to agree with other handles they create or they are people who were booted off the site and decided they wanted to return under a new guise. vinapu
dellboy
just a question from a newbie , ,,,,,,,,,,,,, has this topic anything to do with the posts made last night about surfcrest , both derogatory posts were from **people* with 7/8 posts each , made within a minute of each other . i challenged them claiming that both posts originated from the one person, one of them was not too happy with me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! strange that all the evidence has disappeared , however !!!!!!!! can anyone please explain ?? thanks
firecat69
I am sure that is exactly what it is about and Scooby removed the offending posts. Pretty simple!
TotallyOz
Wow. Deliboy. For a newbie, you sure know when to "challenge" people and telling them you thought they were from the same person. So, teach me old wise one, how do you come to know these things so fast? kokopelli
For the most part, they are either those that create the names to agree with other handles they create or they are people who were booted off the site and decided they wanted to return under a new guise. I am skeptical of any poster who would use multiple identities on the same forum which, to me, is just deception. I believe the term is sock-puppets. On the other hand, pardon the pun, I see no reason a poster shouldn't change his name/avatar on some other forum or if he decided to retire his name in order to rehabilitate or revitalize himself. Koko does it all the time; it is known as the Lazarus syndrome.
williewillie
There is something disingenuous about having multiple handles and using them in the same thread. After all, talking to yourself is frowned upon. Polls have been turned into jokes, when one poster can vote multiple times using all his handles. I would exempt owners as they might want to post their own thoughts and not speak as the administration. This forum has truly become an open forum with many voices and perspectitives. No longer do a couple of posters author most of the threads and do most of the postings. I see little evidence of multiple handle abuse and would advise caution on trying to fix a well running forum. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke". kokopelli, KhorTose and vinapu
firecat69
It really is not too difficult. If a poster has the same IP address for 2 handles he is violating the rules and should be eliminated. The problem is more difficult when there are different IP addresses but similar writing styles might lead some to believe it is the same poster. Complaining about what Scooby has done makes very little sense because this has always been the least moderated Board around . And as long as people are respectful and follow the rules I assume that will continue.
vinapu
while I don't see any problems with members using more than one handle I guess Scooby has right to implement his rules as he sees fit. I'd say is posts which are at times offensive , not posters. Firecat is right that this Board is the least moderated for reason that collectively we are behaving ourselves , personal attacks are rare and when they occur are mostly ignored allowing flames to die fast. Opposite opinions are treated as such , not as intended offense, shortly speaking we are acting as boy loving adults , not balding and greying teenagers. williewillie
Alexx
I think there's no valid reason for using more than one handle on the same forum at the same time, and I applaud efforts made by the admin in order to prevent that. From my experience across a broad selection of forums, those creating several personas for themselves usually either have a shady agenda (most seen on forums for professionals) or mental health issues (most seen on lifestyle forums such as this one). If someone takes a break from a forum and comes back later with the intention to let bygones be bygones, however, using a new handle might actually be a good idea. I'd say whether it's good or bad depends on the individual case. People using several forums are obviously always free to use different handles on each of them. Decreeing anything else would be madness. The various Gay Thailand forums are, in fact, the only group of related forums I'm familiar with where it's quite common that people try to consistently use the same handle across boards, even going as far as 'reserving' their handle when a new forum pops up, even if they have no intention to post there. That alone says a lot.
Guest darkdays
With respect to the Surfcrest situation the two posts were made 15 minutes apart Mr Dellboy. People log on and off all the time and agree or disagree. Shall we ask Scooby to find a software that will block responses made within within a time period. Maybe we should not be permitted to respond within 30 minutes of post? Scooby is absolutely correct in stating that Mr. Dellboy seems to know too much in such little time. I am sure Scooby has checked email addresses, names and IP addresses and to the best of his ability would say that these are two different members. Maybe what we should be addressing is people like Mr. Surfcrest whose entire 24 posts are flamming and if you review his posts it appears that he only visits our board when time to disrupt it and cause vengence on some people he dislikes? Should he not be posting these types of posts on his own forum?
firecat69
What is it you don't understand. Scooby removed the posts and hoped all you magic new members would understand about no multiple handles. Do not start it all over again or he'll remove it again. We have a nice Board here and we don't want newcomers coming in and trying to ruin it. I am tired of people who have contributed nothing to this Board all of a sudden wanting to start problems. You want to post anything about Surfcrest do it on his Board and have your argument on his Board and get off of this Board unless you have something meaningful to contribute. The last thing we need is someone who has 10 posts telling Scooby what should be posted. williewillie

Guest darkdays
Mr. Firecat, as I was one of the posters who responded to the OP I think I have sufficient reason to reply to what is being said here. As I do not recall you being in the middle of the discussion I don't believe you have a reason to chastize me. Merely for the first time did I respond to someone coming over from another board and causing trouble on this board. Not I but him and that was why I responded. Dellboy I am not sure who the OP was but it was a thread someone started about Mr Surfcrest coming over here and causing problems in a thread that was about Baht Stop closing and his reply had nothing to do with the topic. Mr. Surfcrest was starting a war with someone about Baht Stop closing and I wondered where Mr. Surfcrest fit in and why all of his posts were negative against people he has tifs with. Guest anonone
You know, I ended up participating here more than the other boards because I have no patience for hydras nor the incessant back and forth arguments about who is really who or bitching just for the sake of bitching. It is going to really suck if that type of behavior finds its way here now.... Just sayin.....
