Guest ear wig Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Prostitution, rape and petty crimes amongst students discussed at Provincial Education meeting. Khun Banchar, the new Governor of Chonburi, chaired this important meeting at the Srirachar Municipality Offices to discuss a number of issues relating to schools around the Province which must be resolved. At the meeting were representatives from the Provincial Education Department and head teachers from a number of schools around the Province. The issues of concern include underage sex amongst students and also rape, violence and prostitution which involves many female students who need the money to pay for their school fees. The Governor has set up a task force to look into these problems which are most acute here in Chonburi according to a nationwide survey. http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_22_11_49_2.htm Quote
Guest gonefishing Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 The nationwide survey actually concluded that Chonburi District had the worst figures nationwide for both violent and petty crime (which, according to the Royal Thai Police figures, has been the case for several years) and the highest figures for prostitution. It did not conclude that Chonburi necessarily had the highest rate of "Dangerous underage sex", which it saw as a nationwide problem. Quote
Guest Hedda Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 The Governor has set up a task force to look into these problems Which will, in the ordinary course of events in Chonburi, be the end of the matter. Does anyone know if there's an internet site in English that has this "nationwide survey" in which Chonburi appears to have rated worst in violent and petty crime. Quote
Guest Nabeel Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Ecellent piece of reporting from all angles. Strange after reading the articule, all the pics show a boys school - and the comment is about female pros. Another Witchhunt for gay farang Teachers in the offing - or just Gays in general? Long live the PC of this world - not. Quote
Guest Pearl69er Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 . Another Witchhunt for gay farang Teachers in the offing - or just Gays in general? Long live the PC of this world - not. You raise an important point as the popular ( ?) image in the media is that of westerners preying on the young of Thailand-whereas in reality, Thailand has a shocking record of child abuse in all forms, odd given the general image of Thails we hold as being so friendly. This is not helped by the western media which propogates this view. Obviously offendors will and should be caught but to ignore the underlying problems does not help so there is a lot of window dressing going on to appease western NGOs. As for "Another Witchhunt for gay farang "..let's hope this isn't the case. But you can understand then why a person who is put into this catergorary-say by other gays via the internet -and it is not true, how alarming that would be for the maligned person under this climate. Yet many think such a thing is just a jolly jape except perhaps where it to happen to them. Quote
