Guest trailrider Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Anyone here been to the Opium Museum a little North of Chiang Rai? I would highly recommend that you consider going. My expectations were to find a little wooden shack in the woods but it turned out to be a very modern structure, completely air-conditioned and having some excellent exhibits that were most informative. Though I had heard of the Opium Wars, I did not know what this was about. The museum explains it thoroughly through signs boards in English, as well as Thai, and photographic means. This is another blemish on the British Empire. The museum takes you through the history of opium production and use. Many visuals give valuable information including where it is produced today and approximations of how much is produced by area. The ride from Chiang Rai is a fair distance but it is well worth the travel to get there. Quote
lukylok Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 I'd like to second that post strongly. I was in the same frame of mind, another museum on drugs ! It is extremely well presented, in a fantastic building. Really worth seeing, very interesting and not at all "preaching". vinapu 1 Quote
