ChristianPFC Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 More cuties at Scorpion Bar 20.10.2013Retrospection: A few days ago, I was walking along Silom and spotted two cute boys. I stopped at a street stall next to them, had a look and one of them chatted me up. He is Vietnamese (so is the other) and he works in Classic and offered me his friend. I like this attidude and this gives big brownie points in my book. But both are too pale in complexion for my taste.Yesterday, 20.10.2013 I had two hours in Silom/Surawong to pass before going to DJ station, so I called a Thai friend M who lives in Sathorn and he joined me for a drink in Scorpion (where I spotted a cute boy recently; the subject of my “non-offable boy” topic is still there, but I have lost interest). This night there are plenty of boys (more than ten; lowest number I saw during the last months were three staff and zero customer). The boy I am looking for is sitting with a customer, so we sit down and I wait for an occasion to talk to him. He seems to be popular: one customer who had five boys on his table leaves, and another comes (and again has five boys around him). There is another boy who is not less attractive. My friend M calls him over to sit next to me. (I am introvert, M is extrovert. While I sit and wait for something to happen, M just says what he wants, in this case what I indicate.)I invite him for a drink. Name Boy. Reasonable English, he claims to be Thai from Chiang Mai. But he cannot write his name in Thai! And his Thai sounds a bit strange. And he doesn’t have an ID. M chats with him in Thai and clues me in that he is from Vietnam. Still, when I ask him later where his family lives, he claims they are in Chiang Mai. He used to work in Bonny Massage for a year, but I don’t remember seeing him there. M asks him in Thai about prices and sexual activities. I overhear the conversation: 1000 Baht cannot, no fucking, no kissing, he is not gay.All three Vietnamese I remember I had contact with during the last two years had the name Boy. Is this just a generic name, like Joe or Jim for black slaves back in the 19th century in the United States?Furthermore, it seems all Vietnamese flock to Scorpion (so they can chat with their friends in Vietnamese). The boy who chatted me up some days ago works in Scorpion as well (not in Classic?) and he is drunk. He asks me for a drink, I deny. He then goes on to ask me where I come from and proclaims “German people not good”. He repeats this several times in the course of the evening. Then he lies down on a bench and falls asleep. Later several other boys and staff wake him up (including grabbing his head by the hair and mild banging on the bench) and send him home. One of the dangers or working in a bar: getting drunk on drinks from invitations from customers. Then M calls over the other cute boy on my behalf. Vietnamese, name Lek (the first Vietnamese who is not Boy), not gay. In a bar in Pattaya, I would off both of them instantly (separately), but here with unclear status (offable or not? – I clearly prefer “Which boy do you want?”) and at Bangkok prices and long distance to my place (20km) and possible communication problems (they cannot read and write Thai), I will rather pass. I tip the boy who sat with me 100 Baht and we leave around midnight.Seems their strategy works. I clearly prefer gogo bars and very rarely go to beer bars. But I have been to Scorpion over five times since the “non-offable boy” post, often with friends, without offing a single boy there.(Side note: gay or straight is not important to me. I had better sex with straight boys than with gay boys. Why would Boy lie to me about his origin? Especially as it's easy to detect: he cannot read or write Thai and has no ID. And why would my friend M lie to my on our way back? He claimed that the boys can go with me for 1000 Baht for short time, but I clearly heard Boy rejecting M's offer for 1000 Baht. How I will appreciate next time in a gogo bar when Mamasan asks me "Do you want boy?"!) hanguy 1 Quote
Guest Devint6669 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I bean reading almost all your post about Scorpion, and i had a question for you why you still go there. It seam that you have not bean very lucky with the staff and their attitude. If I was you I would just stop going over this establishment for sure. Quote
Bob Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Why would Boy lie to me about his origin? Especially as it's easy to detect: he cannot read or write Thai and has no ID. Rather obvious to me. If you were illegally in a given country and a stranger (let alone anyone else) in a bar asked you where you were from, how would you answer that question yourself? You'd either not answer the question or you would do your best to fudge an answer. We have supposedly a million or two undocumented "guests" up here in the boonies and almost none of them will tell anyone other than someone they really trust about their true status. They sure as hell aren't going to say: "Well, I and my family are currently living in Chiangmai but we're actually here in Thailand without permission." Your use of the word "lying" is technically correct; however, I think that using that word given the background/context of the situation is a bit harsh. They're just trying to be smart and protect themselves, their friends, and their families. vinapu and KhorTose 2 Quote
ChristianPFC Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 As far as I know, these Vietnamese boys are here on a visa, which might even allow them to work. No need to lie about their status, if they are here legally. I have met several people from Lao, Cambodia and Burma who are here for other purposes than prostitution or related, who did not lie about their origin. I doubt his family is in Chiang Mai. My Thai friend asked him which Amphoe, the answer didn't fit Thai geography. This lie is so stupid and blunt and easy to detect (at least for me), if he lied about his age (look at the ID-card would suffice, but he doesn't have a Thai ID card) or number of siblings or whatever, fine for me. But lying about his origin, basically says he thinks I am that stupid that I won't notice. But once we had figured out he is from Vietnam, I asked him where the other cute boy comes from and he said Vietnam. Most tourists and expats probably don't care, but I prefer if the boys are fluent in Thai and can read and write Thai (or alternatively fluent in English, reading and writing not necessary, but haven't encountered any yet). Devint, when I first went it was a hard blow for me that I could not off the boy of my dreams. Now that I know I can't off the boys, it's ok. The music level there is lower than elsewhere, you can have a conversation without shouting at each other. Quote
Bob Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 No need to lie about their status, if they are here legally. On that point, Christian, we agree. What we don't agree on is the reverse event - Shan/Burmese/Lao/etc. boys fudging about their origin and status which happens all the time and for very logical reasons. I'm not criticizing the so-called "illegals" here as, like the undocumented Mexicans in the US, they come to financially better themselves and their families. And the Thais - from farmers to contractors - take advantage of them. We have a few locations here in Chiangmai where hopeful construction workers gather every morning and the various contractors come by with their trucks and pick up their daily worker quotas (and no doubt pay them a whole lot less than what's fair and certainly less than the required minimum wage). What's sad and a bit pathetic to me is to see a crowd of these "illegals" suddenly flee and scatter when a cop car happens to randomly drive by. Quote
t0oL1 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Least Bob could hide the cute ones in his hotel room. Maybe Scorpion needs curtains at the back... This post could use a few pics Quote
Guest Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I've encountered a few Laos boys in the bars. They do not lie about their origins, but when you ask for ID and they bring out a foreign passport, they definitely don't want anyone else in the bar seeing it. So I suspect they are not working legally. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted October 23, 2013 Author Posted October 23, 2013 The behavior described by z909 doesn't make any sense. Maybe Lao boys can pass as Thai if they are fluent in Thai without accent, but I'm sure the boys talk among each other about their home province, they would have to lie to their co-workers, and if someone is from the same province the lie will be uncovered. pong Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 helo Christian, bin also gestern spaet hier angetroffen-arrived back in BKK late last eve. Plane-Etihad, also full of Germans-many of those not able to speak a single word on english-their Thai GFs had to do the communication with the steward-an awfully gay-ish Chinese. NO, Boy is not a tipical VNese name-thats more like Nguyn (say like ''win'). Lao-boys can easily be compared with Isany's-thats mutually interchangeable. VNese do not need a visa for TH-as its ASEAN-same for Thai visiting VN=-for max 30 days though. 2 years ago during the floods I stayed for longer in KUL/MY and met a VNese guy working in some (very hidden) massageshop, who was setting up some kind of ''exportline'' for VNese guys to do that work. Many were also half childs (from US-soldier pa's), these mostly have a very hard life in VN, but may be treasured by the tipical Chinse Malays. Having white skin is even much more as here in TH a desirable feature in VN. I assume they ticket on that to get better paid ''jobs'' here. There is a sizeable minoriy of half-VN/Thai in some Isan parts-my old long standing BF was such a half child (father VN, ma Thai). Thats the part that gets into the news for the dog-export, around Sakorn Nakorn. Bad news for me is that 2 of my favorite restrts are closed and buildings sold/leased to better paid expensive farang places. Quote

Chinese father + Malay mother = Chinese almost invariably Muslim nowadays (or Baba/Nyonya or Straights Chinese and often non-Muslim if the Malay female ancestor was from long ago) Chinese mother + Malay father = Malay (and always Muslim) What are Chinse Malays? I live and was born in Malaysia and I have never heard of the term before. Quote

Not wanting anyone else in the bar to see the passport is probably mainly a concern about other customers seeing the passport. However, Laos boys do pass themselves off as Thai. One Thai guy didn't realise his room mate was from Laos for 2 weeks. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 NO, Boy is not a tipical VNese name-thats more like Nguyn (say like ''win'). I wanted to say that the Thai don't bother with learning the Vietnamese boy's names, they just nickname them "Boy". Just like "Farang" for Whites. vinapu 1 Quote
pong Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Having passed by there I did not see any. Lots of fairly attractive guys, but none that struck me as outofthe ordinary in such places. Not curious enough to go back to that soi. Quote

You wanna meet up at Scorpion and check out those Vietnamese boys together? I can translate for you and get to the bottom of the problem of why you had problems offing any of them. Guest Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I've also seen Thai gogo boys use "Boy" as their stage name. Quote
Guest abang1961 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Question... is the nationality of the spunky lad important? If he is bed-worthy, does it matters? Quote
ChristianPFC Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 Is the nationality important? For the average tourist, no; for me, yes. If my Thai is better than the boy's English, I switch to Thai. Many foreign boys speak good Thai, and I can't hear where they come from, so I wouldn't notice. But if I ask them to spell their name in Thai, or which province, and then which amphoe, they come from, I realize they are not Thai. After one Vietnamese boy in a gogo bar in Soi Twilight who wanted 2000 Baht for short time three years ago, and the non-offable boy in Scorpion, I am wary of Vietnamese money boys (just bad luck that I had two out of two bad experiences with Vietnamese, no generalization; a friend offed boys from Scorpion and was happy with them; Cambodians and Lao everything was fine for me). Walked past Scorpion yesterday, over ten boys, several good looking, but with Byzantine offing procedure and short time tips as high as 3000 Baht expected (second hand information), they completely lost me. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. As far as I figured out (with help of friends), the boy who didn't want to go with me seems to be selective in choosing customers, doesn't want short time for 1500 Baht, rather someone who regularly sends money from abroad and buys mobile phone; and he has correctly assessed that I am not the one. This whole episode was a big loss of face for me (to speak in Thai terms; in English we would say they fooled me, or pulled my leg, or have shown total disrespect for me as a customer). I can watch, but not touch? I can have that in my room, with free porn from internet! vinapu 1 Quote
Guest abang1961 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 To be honest with you guys, I have yet to sleep with a money boy.... So for that issue of how much to pay, I really dont have a clue but I do agree with pfc... know when to draw the line... know your limits and treshold ... you know, there is always another cutie round the corner ... Tell those boys who want more, it is always still a buyer's market.... Quote
Alexx Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 This whole episode was a big loss of face for me (to speak in Thai terms; in English we would say they fooled me, or pulled my leg, or have shown total disrespect for me as a customer). I don't think so, quite the opposite. In Thai terms, their story was in fact a face-saving measure for your benefit. Saying that the boy is generally unavailable doesn't put the blame on you. Had they said what you've just written straight to your face, that he figured you're a cheapskate and therefor isn't interested in you, that would have been one big fat loss of face. Guest Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Nationality doesn't matter. Well not unless it gets to the point where dating people of a particular nationality becomes consistently more problematic than other nationalities. As for people demanding 2000 or 3000 baht in Bangkok, well the "going rate" for short time is nearer to 1500 from the gogo bars. Given the diversity of customers visiting the bars, we should expect some of them try their luck asking for much more. If you have some very cute boys and some very wealthy customers who just don't know the going rate, a higher rate may well be attainable and satisfactory for both parties. Actually, if someone is visiting Thailand for business & has his living expenses all paid for, then if he fits one or 2 boys in during the trip, why not go for the best? As his company pays for the hotel, meals etc, he's still spending less of his own money per day than a typical tourist. I've done that in Japan. Freelancers on the street may offer services for as little as 5000 yen. However, if Friday is the first night of the week I can get to Tokyo and there are no freelancers around, going to a host bar and paying 15000yen (4750 THB) is just fine. I've not paid for the flight, the hotel, meals or anything . As Japanese receipts are illegible to most foreigners, companies may well offer a flat rate daily expense allowance instead of requiring receipts for meals etc. Even if this is modest, after 5 days of eating prudently, one can put the allowance to good use at the weekend. Maybe the same thing happens in Thailand. Finally, back to Bangkok. Last time I met a boy on Gay Romeo there, I asked him how much he wanted and he said 1000 baht. Quote

This whole episode was a big loss of face for me (to speak in Thai terms; in English we would say they fooled me, or pulled my leg, or have shown total disrespect for me as a customer). I don't mind if boys are selective, in fact I feel better if boy have a say to which customer he will go with. This way if he goes with me I know it is on his will, not being forced by mamasan or owner. Likely not much fun with boy dragged by me by force against his better judgement even if only thing he will see in me is tip coming at end of session. Did not have such ' forced ' case but on few occasions boy hired for long time invented some story to cut it to short time , I'd prefer if he was up front rather than lying just to get an order and ' than we will see '. The same goes with tip - it's much better if disagreement is clarified before an off instead of having a scene in the room after the deed with whole floor listening what is going on behind our door. But I wholeheartedly agree with you and abang - know your limits and stick to them. If doesn't work there are other boys. Even after soi Twilight closes ScrewBoys is still open another hour, BBB In has somebody available round clock , not to mention GR etc. Personally my monetary limit is 3000, would not pay more and never did. And this is for long time.Long time for me is when boy is leaving room in the morning with me, he is invited for breakfast and is up to him if he takes an invitation or not. Non-monetary limit is when he asks for more money / usually for taxi / , never gets it from me and never will be offed again even if is handsome like David and honey sweet. This is why I parted my ways with certain boy from Aqua quite a few years ago, only boy I ever abandoned my butterfly mode for. To be fair to boys I need to say it hapend to me only three times over 9 trips so I usually defend boys if somebody accuses them for being greedy but as we said , limit is limit . I don't blame them for trying to be more extractive, after all most of their clients are one time affair so they are trying their luck but also they have to live with consequences Alexx is correct about you not losing a face, you may feel pissed off by Scorpion boys but it is not the same hanguy 1 Quote

When in Thailand I would not entertain an option of getting intimate with anybody who is NOT an ASEAN or East Asian national and at times I'm amazed when somebody reports hooking with some Greenlander or Surinamese in soi 4. ( I picked up small countries as to not offend anybody ) When traveling I strongly believe in supporting local industry , boys included. Quote
Travellerdave Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 In 8 years of visiting Thailand i have had very little sexual contact with other farangs. Thai (including Cambodian/vietamese) boys are who i like. The only exceptions were encounters in gay saunas. When i used to vacation in European gay resorts over 20 years i must have had sex with representatives of most Western Countries. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Not a loss of face in the bar, but on the boards (but it was my choice to write about this episode, to warn others). Everyone is laughing at me because a boy doesn't want to go with me. (I made this up, my sense of humor.) This episode has scarred me for life. I can never again go into a gogo or host bar and expect everyone on stage being available, as I did before. Quote
