GoldMember Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hey guys, Sorry to have opened a new thread but my thread has been locked before I had the chance to comment on the recent posts there. Original thread: http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/9167-my-first-thailand-trip/ So just a few words back to the one who doubted me: 1. Lets get the details correctly, I stayed in a 400 USD room (for just one night) but shared it with a friend (not my BF - he did not join this trip), so it was actually 200 USD for me. 2. Maybe an average Israeli student cannot afford my trip. I could, I have a good job. 3. I still cannot understand, what motivation could an individual possibly have to share his experiences regarding Thailand with people that do not know him and to lie about it. I don't really think anyone would take the time doing so. And once again, 10x all for the tips TotallyOz and vinapu 2 Quote
vinapu Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Gold , don't worry about this. Every board will have inflamers who will be trying derail thread , gay forums are not exception. Don't get discouraged by this, it's price we need to pay for anonymity of participation. You do not need to justify your spending habits to anybody as it's nobody's business. Some people are driving fancy cars, wearing expensive jewelry, why others can't spent their money on expensive hotels, clothes , drinks e.t.c. as for point 3: it's possible that people with lots of time in their hands and good imagination and writing skills would invent and post stories just to entertain themselves and possibly others, may be to improve their self-esteem as well to show everybody how worldly they are . Again, gay boards are not immune to this. Like Italians say " si non e vero, e ben trovato" - "even if not true at least is well invented". This summer I was confined home for several weeks and being stuck , among other things entertained myself by combing through 3 most popular Thai gay forums and definitely some stories were in this category. Sample I remember: in 2006 poster is commenting as eye witness on some recent goings in Tawan bar, in 2011 the same poster is asking some questions claiming is coming back for vacation after 20 years absence in Thailand . But really where's harm IMHO? Not that I condone fiction, just trying to state that it can't be avoided so why bother to worry. Thank you for great reports and keep posting without worry what trolls will say. You should be commended as many people are looking for information and won't even bother to thank , not to mention to repay posters with even shortest trip report we so love to read. fedssocr Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Nice report. Glad you had a good time! And also glad that you enjoyed Le Meridien BKK. I also stayed at the ICON when I was in HKG last year. I really liked it. I had a big room with a nice harbour view. I liked the fact that it is attached to the technical university's hospitality program so everyone (almost) that works there is also a student. Some VERY hot boys working there when I visited. It is definitely not cheap though. And not my favorite city either. No one looked happy or smiled. TotallyOz 1 Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 I didn't doubt your trip for one minute. I have also had friends that visited Thailand when in college and stayed in the Four Seasons in BKK and Chiang Mai and took my recommendation for Phuket. Often times people who come to Thailand over and over don't understand when someone decides to make a trip here and stay where they really want to stay to have a special trip. It brought me back to my early life and when I was in College and very very poor and traveled to London for 3 weeks with classmates. All of us were very hard working but we wanted to stay in nice hotels and have a great experience. We did just that. And, we had the time of our life. We did sleep 4 to a room but I had always done that when I was a kid so it was normal for me. We ate good food, saw plays and musicals we wanted and we stayed in fantastic hotels. For us, it was the trip of a lifetime and we loved it. On message boards, people are often skeptical of someone they don't know. It makes little sense to me. But, I read of your adventures and truly enjoyed them. Please don't let a few (one) bad apple spoil your experience with the board. Quote
vinapu Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 vacation after all should be vacation from everything, penny pinching included. Often in my travels I met and felt sorry for people who spent fortune to travel somewhere and after arrival they seem to deprive themselves even cheapest pleasantries in order not to overpay or haggle with locals over equivalent of 30 cents just for sake of haggling. Personally I do not see need for fancy hotels but understand that some travelers may get fun living few days in luxury and splurging on it. The same goes for taxis and fancy restaurants. On another hand I spend silly amounts on luxury massage treatments I don't even have need for other than for sake of sheer indulgence , why not ? I enjoyed Gold's posts immensely and my favorite part was his encounter with Tawan boy-brilliant idea instead of getting massage from boy why not to reverse roles. Gee , getting hot in here ! Rogie Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I am looking forward to your new trip reports especially to Tokyo, Taipei, China and who knows perhaps Moscow and Latin America... Yes indeed: our board members are widely travelled. We've had reports from all of those places. That's not to say we wouldn't enjoy seeing more, I for one certainly would. In fact, at least one of our members will be in Taipei next weekend, camera at the ready. Quote
vinapu Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 In fact, at least one of our members will be in Taipei next weekend, camera at the ready. Brings fond memories from landing in Taipei just before Christmas 2002 and welcoming sign right in front of gate's exit : "Posession and trafficking in narcotics is penalized by death in the Republic of China" curious if still a case / sign not legal qualification / Quote
Rogie Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 "Posession and trafficking in narcotics is penalized by death in the Republic of China" I don't know the current situation but as that was only just over ten years ago probably nothing's changed. One thing is for sure, our members past and present have visited / are intending to visit, purely for pleasure, rather than further add to the misery of narcotic addiction for the sake of personal greed. Unfortunately, the lure of supposed 'easy money' entraps many, often poor people, to undertake the risk of carrying drugs from one country to another. Usually it is the 'little guy or gal' that is arrested. The drug bosses IMO are little better than mass murderers, in addition to the misery they sow, they send the equivalent of the 'Indian scout' into foreign territory knowing full well they may never return. So when Michael writes . . . It brought me back to my early life and when I was in College and very very poor and traveled to London for 3 weeks with classmates. All of us were very hard working but we wanted to stay in nice hotels and have a great experience. . . . that's great he made a life for himself starting from scratch. I suppose in an ideal world poverty would be alleviated - socialist countries and capitalist countries alike - but of course in reality the world is an unfair place and there'll always be reasons why criminality thrives. Look It I bean comming to thailand for now about 10 year i'm 28 year old and let me tell you there is so many you can pay for trip that you really want to live and now i live here now and also i did all this city but one still on my list Moscow... And i will go one day when i save the money i wish to spend out there you see the word is save you money and live the way you want.... Quote
Rogie Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 . . . you see the word is save you money and live the way you want.... Well said, you are a lucky so-and-so to be only 28 and sensible. Many people do not get to live the way they want until very much later in life. Sometimes early retirement, but more often working until 60+ in order to save a nice nest egg in order to enjoy an idyllic retirement. For those yearning to spread their wings that might mean an endless round of cruises to exotic locations. Others decide to flee the nest and put down permanent or semi-permanent roots in another country. I am often intrigued what it is that's the deciding factor when they decide to relocate. Perhaps for many, Thailand scores because of its cheap cost of living plus that evasive factor X. . . the ability to make you feel younger, more alive. So although you may be 28 Devint, many ex-pats and foreigners more than twice your age feel a lightness in their step enjoying the company of 20-something boys and girls. vinapu 1 Quote

Rogie , stop talking about me, I'm shy guy and don't like publicity. LOL Well said nevertheless, thank you for expressing nicely in short sentence why we love LOS even if factor X doesn't work sometimes as hoped for. Quote
