Guest fountainhall Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 One of the icons of our age is finally calling it a day. Now aged 79, Dame Edna Everage and her creator Barry Humphries held a press conference yesterday to announce details of her farewell performances in the UK. ‘She’ will perform the tour titled “Eat Pray Laugh!” in various UK cities between October this year and the Spring of 2014, including two months at the London Palladium between 13 November and 5 January. As good a reason as I can think of to make a trip to London!Beside her at the Press Conference was a telephone – “it’s in touch with the bedside of little Kate Middleton.” The Duchess of Cambridge has apparently postponed giving birth to the third in line to the UK throne so as not to obliterate Dame Edna’s press coverage. She added she had been consulted about the baby’s name. “They wanted Edna, but I said no, it would look like favouritism.”Also appearing with Dame Edna will be one of Barry Humphries’ earliest and bawdiest creations, Sir Les Patterson, former Australian Cultural Attaché to the Court of St. James. The Australian government have apparently insisted that Sir Les opens the show. Said the Dame, “Isn’t that dreadful?” http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2013/jul/15/dame-edna-everage-uk-tourhttp://www.dameednafarewell.com/ Quote
