TotallyOz Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I will be returning to Bangkok soon and spending several months there. I talked to the boys that stay with me in LOS and we have decided this time we want to know which restaurant has the best pizza. We will head to at last 10 or 15 places while I am there to test them. Any suggestions you have for us to include in our Pizza roundup? ChristianPFC 1 Quote
Guest Promsak Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Well, being a veggie, I can't give much advice on fleshy pizzas but the best four cheese pizza I've tasted in Bangkok is on Sukhumvit soi 8 (Skytrain NANA). It is served on the terrace of the Monsoon Hotel (a short way down the soi on the right). Crispy base and VERY cheesy. Served with the usual condiments incuding a bottle of chilli oil. About 280 Baht (with possibly a 'plus' or two). Of course your 'boys' being Thai probably hate cheese. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I like pizza, and I have been to "Mama Dolores" on Soi Yen Akat (Sathorn, about 1 km from Malaysia Hotel) several times. It's a pizzeria (i.e. all they have on the menue is pizza) and it's completely open, no walls, just a roof, so you can see how they prepare your pizza. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I'm quite close to Mama Dolores. I liked the pizza. The only problem is that it's not air conditioned which would be a problem for some. The pizzas at Il Bolognese on Sathorn Soi 7 are superb and very large (go along the soi and turn left at the end).http://www.gaythailand.com/forums/topic/8801-another-bangkok-restaurant-recommendation/?hl=bolognese Quote
Guest Devint6669 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 In my Experience it's at Zanotti, Bangkok this is for a classic Italian style pizza. The pizza is will cost about 250 but it's got a good size... Here is the link for this restaurant http://www.zanottigroup.com/vino-di-zanotti-bangkok.html Quote
ChristianPFC Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Just followed the link to Zanottis, and read this: A selection of fine Cuban cigars is available. Does this mean they allow smoking? (If yes: Disgusting!) TotallyOz 1 Quote
mahjongguy Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 IIRC, the cigar bar is in a separate building across the soi. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 In my Experience it's at Zanotti Zanotti has several restaurants of which the one linked is on Nanglinchee. I suspect each may have slightly different prices. I was at their main restaurant in Saladaeng recently and noticed that the pizza prices do vary a lot, from around Bt. 250 as Devinnt points out, but up to around Bt. 700 depending on ingredients - all for a medium size. I ran a quick check on Il Bolognese's prices. The lady did not have great English and I am not sure she fully understood my question. I was told the range is from around Bt. 480 to Bt. 650. As I know, they only serve the large size. Although I have not been there for over a year, I really enjoyed Scoozi's pizzas. They have (or used to have) a small pizzeria right on Suriwong down from the Tawana Ramada Hotel and I know they have over a dozen other branches elsewhere in the city. They also deliver within a reasonable radius. The delivery prices are on the attached link - generally between Bt. 220 and Bt. 425. Their tiramisu is also excellent - price Bt. 130. On Suriwong, make sure you do not go into the main restaurant, though, This is a Thai-style house about 50 meters off the road where prices are considerably higher! http://online.scoozipizza.com/idpizza/Full-Pizza_cpage1_view3_codeasc Quote
fedssocr Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I really liked Pizzeria Limoncello off Suk 11.http://www.zanottigroup.com/pizzeria-limoncello.html As you can see form the URL it's part of the Zanotti group. It's a nice little place. I ate there twice on a visit a couple of years ago when I was staying on Sukhumvit Soi 11 at the Fraser and then at the Aloft. Lots of gay patrons and hi-so Thais. Service was a little slow. But the pizza was great...and enormous. Too much for one person really. Good desserts too. I agree that Scoozi is pretty good too if you are in the Silom/Suriwong neighborhood. TotallyOz 1 Quote
firecat69 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Pizza is such a personal thing. The crust, sauce, cheese and spices and the oven all can ruin someones favorite taste. I read many good reviews on Scoozi years ago so i tried it and thought it was crap . Tried it again last year and still think it is crap. There is a little Italian restaurant almost across from BNH Hospital. They have the best 4 cheese pizza I have ever had. Don't remember price but i think about 220 medium size. I actually think PizzaHut is good in the USA but terrible in Thailand. I have tried the pizza at Zanottis a number of times and rate it ok, not as good as some of their other dishes. I am a deep dish fan or a very crispy thin crust. Can't wait to here more reports??? TotallyOz 1 Quote
kokopelli Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Pizza is such a personal thing. The crust, sauce, cheese and spices and the oven all can ruin someones favorite taste. As you say, pizza is such a personal thing. I have noticed in Thailand that they put some disgusting items on their pizzas, one being pineapples. However if you are ever at the Colchester Zoo (England) stop on in. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Bob Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 As you say, pizza is such a personal thing. I have noticed in Thailand that they put some disgusting items on their pizzas, one being pineapples. Also done in the US. The toppings on a "Hawaiian" pizza are ham and pineapple. Yum. TotallyOz 1 Quote
fedssocr Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 what's disgusting about pineapple? They do put some weird stuff on pizza, but I don't count pineapple among them. TotallyOz 1 Quote
kokopelli Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 For me anything sweet on a pizza is anathema since I am not a sugar person. Other things on Thai pizza not to my liking are squid and mussels. But then I detest anchovies, pepperoni and sausage topping so I am on the fringe in that regard. As Firecat said, pizza is personal. williewillie 1 Quote

KhorTose Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 For me anything sweet on a pizza is anathema Damn, I had planned to serve you the cutest, sweetest bar boy on a pizza platter when you next came to Chiang Mai. Since you have also eliminated "mussel" boys, all I have left to serve you is the fat mammasan with the "cheesy" taste. How sad. Quote

TotallyOz Posted June 29, 2013 Author Posted June 29, 2013 Visit #1: Best Pizza in Bangkok Tour A Review of the Finest Pizza in Bangkok Scoozi Pizza The address is hard to find even on their website but the pizza place is right across the street and down a block or two from the Tarntawan Hotel. Scoozi has 18 branches in Bangkok and so this review is only for this branch. We wanted something that was fairly close to the gay bars and choose Scoozi. I have eaten there on many occasions in the past and always enjoyed it. I first found the place many years ago when a friend was in Bangkok studying Thai and I met him and we went there for dinner. I love the inside as you can actually watch the guys making the pizza. The Pizza is cooked on a hot wood fire. It is really fun to watch them and see the progress of your pizza. Tonight, we decided to order the Hawaiian Pizza. The cost was 450 baht. We all had drinks as well. l The pizza crust was great and one of our favorite things. So much so, the BF ate the last piece but only the crust. The pizza had plenty of cheese on it as well as it tasted great. The pizza is supposed to be framed after those from Napoli, Italy. Scoozi has online ordering and having stayed in the Sathorn area in the past, we ordered from it on several occasion and it was good but not as good as the in house. Last night we sat inside but they seats are very uncomfortable. The ones outside are much more comfortable and you do get some eye candy that walks by. Our Hawaiian Pizza was excellent and we all really enjoyed it. We gave it 3.8 stars out of 5. (2 of us gave it 4 stars and one gave it 3.5) Attached are a few photos. http://www.scoozipizza.com Quote
firecat69 Posted June 29, 2013 Posted June 29, 2013 That looks better then the last one I got there which was like the old Dominoe"s like a piece of cardboard. Maybe I'll give them another chance , I'll even let you buy! LOL Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 The Limoncello Ristorante Pizzeria located in one of the most popular restaurant/night club area of Bangkok. A full menu of Italian dishes of the highest quality, is available imported from Italy every week. The Pizza’s made in wood oven is considered among the very best in Bangkok. It is across the street from the Grand President Hotel and it is before you get to Bed Super Club. The place is very cozy with Italian music playing at a level you can hear but enjoy conversations. The yellow and white table tops were cute. There were several families there. This is owned by the same group as Zanotti's. We ordered a special Pizza called the Zanotti with ham and mushroom and a great tasting cheese. We also had drinks and an order of Calamari. We all enjoyed the pizza and the atmosphere. I esp. enjoyed the taste of this pizza. It was not my typical NY Style Pizza I like and the crust was thin and light but the taste was great. Plus, our waiter was a cute boy from Italy. We each gave Pizzeria Limoncello 4 Stars. We all enjoyed it. The cost was 1200 baht. The best thing about this place is that it is on the same soi as my favorite massage place, Hero. So, for those who want an afternoon snack before you get a Hero desert, it is within walking distance. firecat69 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Hard to tell from the photo but that does not look like a very large pizza?? Quote
Guest Promsak Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 A friend reccomended Pizzeria Limoncello to me as having the best 4 cheese pizzas in Bangkok. I went and tried it but I think it's not as good as the one at Monsoon that I mentioned in an earlier message. Soi 8 (Monsoon) is still within walking distance of Hero! (Soi 8 being opposite Soi 11). The Pizzeria Limoncello pizza was full size and I ended up taking half of it home for the dog . I seem to remember that we had some spicy/herby potato wedges to start with that were delicious (and probably explains why I could only get through half of the pizza! The decor and atmosphere was very nice --- clean, light and modern. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Cafe Primavera Pizza and Jazz 56 Phra Sumen rd. Banglampoo, Bangkok 10200, Thailand (about 100 m east of the old fort and park) http://www.primavera-cafe.com/index.html A while ago, I came across this webpage (in German) and "Pizza" and "Jugendstil" (Art nouveau, ...my favorite style in architecture and interior decoration) made me prick up my ears. http://www.nikswieweg.com/reisen/thailand/thai1.htm Jugendstil interior is far fetched (there are some paintings by Alphonse Mucha, but that's all). I went there on Sunday afternoon, about 3 pm (after the fishbowl in the basement of an abandoned supermarket, different thread). I had pizza with salmon. Price ok, service quick, pizza tasty, I might go back. The only thing I wonder is the drink, I ordered Sprite and got a 245 ml (if I remember correctly) can, didn't know that such small cans exist. (Quick service - I was the only customer about 3 to 4 pm, you never know if the staff rather like to play with their mobile phones than serving me, but there everything was fine.) Quote
TotallyOz Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 We have been a bit busy this week with the Buddha holiday and other things going on. So, I wanted to order the boys a Pizza. They said, "Is this for website?" and I said, "No, it won't be that good." Well, I was totally wrong. This is the first place that all three of us gave the Pizza 5 stars. We ordered through FoodbyPhone.com We picked a place called Pizza Mania. We ordered the Pizza Quattro Stagioni and the Pizza Saporita which had smoked bacon and smoked mozzarella. We also ordered 2 different pasta dishes to test. Holy Cow. I bit into the first pizza and thought I was in Heaven. Each thing we tasted got even better. The boys both said it was their favorite thing we have ever had delivered. The pizzas were 335 and 385 each. As they boys will tell you, they loved them. I told them I think I ordered enough for left overs tomorrow and they said, "Ha Ha. We will eat again after you go to bed." I have to say that for all 3 of us to agree that the pizzas were divine is a true treat for us. Usually one of us doesn't like something enough to give up the place on a 2nd try but for this place, we were all in love! Pizza Mania http://www.pizzamania.co.th Quote
paulsf Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 My hotel (Courtyard) had Pizza & Pasta buffet tonight. All you can eat for 650. Includes salads and soft drinks. TotallyOz 1 Quote
