Guest fountainhall Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I just received this week’s Travelzoo 20 recommendations email and see there is a low season offer for the 4.5-star Courtyard by Marriott Hotel (close to The Four Seasons Hotel and 5 minutes walk from Rajadamri BTS station - one stop from Saladaeng and therefore close to the nightlife). However, this has obviously arrived late as the offer expires tonight (Australian time). If this is of interest, you have only until around 15:00 GMT today (Wednesday) to get the travelzoo vouchers.Despite the short notice, I have included this as it does represent a good deal if you are two travelling together and want to take advantage of the breakfast add-on deal. On agoda, reviewers give the hotel an “8.4 Fantastic” rating. Nightly rate for double occupancy is A$85 (approx. Bt. 2,450) and includes –Tax and Service chargesGuaranteed Upgrade to Deluxe Corner RoomFree in-room WiFi20% off spa treatments20% of all F&B Breakfast vouchers available for A$20 (Bt. 575) for 2 people per night extra Conditions:Room Upgrades are limited to the first five per nightValidity: 1 June – 30 SeptemberVouchers must be purchased from travelzoo by 15:00 GMT todayRooms must then be booked with the hotel no later than 1 September 2013.Vouchers are non-refundable, but dates can be changed within 7 days of the start of your booking subject to availability.Note: A$1 = approx. US$0.96Rates:Both the Courtyard’s own website and agoda have the same lowest pre-paid non-refundable rate for room only (depending on availability) of around Bt. 3,290 (inclusive of tax and service). But if you want breakfast, then neither site offers a non-refundable rate. So you pay a much higher fully refundable room rate that is nearer Bt. 4,500 (including tax, service and breakfast).Travelzoo therefore offers much better savings on both counts. For full details of the travelzoo offer and bookings, check –http://www.travelzoo.com/au/local-deals/Outside-Australia/Getaway/53530?utm_source=top20_au&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=au_top20_2013_22For more information on the hotel itself –http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bkkcy-courtyard-bangkok/ Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 The website says vouchers must be purchased by June 5th... http://www.travelzoo.com/au/local-deals/Outside-Australia/Getaway/53530?utm_source=top20_au&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=au_top20_2013_22 Vouchers must be purchased by Wednesday 5 June. When you are ready to book, contact the hotel to reserve your room and mention the Travelzoo voucher. Vouchers can be redeemed for stays from 1 June to 30 September, 2013. Bookings are subject to availability so make sure to book as soon as possible. Booking should be made by 1 September, 2013. promotion... A good deal for Bangkok... tj Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 This Marriott promo..MAY also qualify as a STAY when qualifying for the Stay 2 times, get one night FREE... Not sure...but it looks like you can provide your Marriott rewards number when checking in at the hotel... or via phone call to Marriott. It's worth a try :-) https://www.marriott.com/rewards/promotion.mi?promotion=MY13 Also Marriott has a NEW hotel in Rayong...on the beach! tj Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Standard Rate on website is 2,800 THB for standard room... so this deal is OK..as it has possible other added benefits... Breakfast looks expensive IMHO... For those with Marriott Rewards points... 15,000 = One night FREE. A good way to book one night ...pay for it... Use points for one night... Get one night FREE certificate :-) Do same at BKK Marriott Hotels or Rayong or HuaHin...... The combo of two would earn you ONE night FREE certificate. tj Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Thanks Jim for clarifying the closing date. I looked at the webpage at least six times as travelzoo normally give a good week's advance notice, and each time I saw it as closing yesterday - hence the heading! I even notified travelzoo about it. So either it was an error and the webpage was changed, or my eyes are deteriorating faster than I thought Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Marriott Courtyard Bangkok Update... I did not purchase the voucher from TravelZoo... However, I did look at the hotel's own website... http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/bkkcy-courtyard-bangkok/ Located near Lumpinee Park & US Embassy area... They are offering special opening promotion...IF YOU STAY 2 nights... @ nightly rate of 2,800 THB + 10%service fee + 7% VAT..total of approx. 6,500 THB for 2 nights. & includes 2 FREE breakfasts. It is LARGE 45 sq meters...very, very nice indeed! With BOTH a shower and a bathtub... my bf will love the soak in the tub My room is also handicap accessible...as I am still using 4 wheeled walker, cane &/or wheelchair. As I am a Marriott Rewards member...I have FREE wireless and I-net IN the room. Guest fountainhall Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Jim, I don't quite follow your math! For 2 nights booked through the hotel's website, you are paying approx. Bt. 6,500 total with an upgrade to Corner Room, breakfast for 2 on both days and around 200 Marriott Reward points (or slightly more depending on your Elite status). But you are paying a fully pre-purchased, non-refundable rate. Cancel and your money's down the drain. WIth the travelzoo offer, you pay Bt. 5,950 for the same 2 nights with upgrade to Corner Room and breakfasts for 2 over 2 days and free internet. And you still get some Reward points. Isn't that a saving of Bt. 550? And the travelzoo offer lasts a month longer and dates can be changed. On the other hand, you are correct. For those who are able to take advantage of the Marriott promo with a second Marriott stay before the end of the promotion on September 2, the travelzoo offer is not the deal to take. Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 FH... It was a tossup for me...I chose to book on the Marriott website to make sure I got my points... and I also get 5x points by using my Marriott credit card issued by Chase Bank in USA. (NO foreign exchange rate either). AND...I wanted to make sure I would receive one night credit towards the Summer promo of stay 2 times and get voucher good for one free night at any Marriott class 1-5 hotel. I am glad I chose to stay here for the 2 nights this weekend. Easy access to Central World Mall with walk/wheelchair push by bf :-) We both enjoyed our visit to the USA Fair 2013 at central World. Came back to hotel with big bag of goodies given to us by exhibitors...polo shirt, t-shirt, carry bags, vouchers for KFC, Pizza Hut and more. tj Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card Unlimited Point Accumulation 5 points for every $1 spent at over 3,600 Marriott locations 2 points for every $1 spent on airline tickets purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies & restaurants 1 point for every $1 spent on purchases anywhere else 15 nights credit toward Elite status every year upon account anniversary Earn 1 Elite Night Credit for every $3,000 spent 1 free night stay every year after account anniversary (Category 1-5 hotels) Pay no foreign transaction fees and enjoy global acceptance with Chip and Signature Technology Introductory Annual Fee of $0 the first year, then $85 and I got 50,000 points bonus + Certificate for one free night when I got this card this year. Occasionally, I have seen a 70,000 bonus point offer...but once last year and once this year to date. Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 FH... I looked at the Travelzoo promo again... It is PRICED in Australian $ Dollars... A$85 per night when you get to the checkout page. Therefore, an added discount over that of booking on Marriott website. I will buy one voucher for a future stay...and use 15,000 of my Marriott Rewards points to stay one night. Making my next visit a 2 night stay. And, the second visit will also qualify us for one FREE night at Marriott Hotels Category 1-2...under Marriott's summer promo. (see info in earlier post by me). Geesh...so many angles to make a good deal even better for those of us who do enjoy traveling... Get Out and Smell the Roses, While We Can ! Thanks FH for your OP and discussion about this opportunity. tj Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 As you say, so many angles and so many things to take into consideration! I wish other countries would follow the example of the US card issuers and issue credit cards with such a ton of benefits attached. Here in Asia, the card companies are pathetic with their freebies! firecat69 Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Jim, You missed out on 20,000 points with Chase. I signed up for the 50,000 points and a few days later saw an offer for 70,000. I called Chase and a very nice person there told me to call back when I made the minimum spend and she was sure they would give me the extra 20,000 points. I called 2 weeks later and within 48 hours they had credited my account with an extra 20,000 points. I love this company when I call the 800 number I always get a live breathing person instead of a recording and they always are in the USA. Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Marriott Rewards ...UPDATE: The Travelzoo promotion will NOT earn any points of hotel stay credit in the Marriott Rewards program... I confirmed this with the Bangkok Courtyard Hotel as well as this rule on Marriott's website: I did NOT purchase the Travelzoo promo vouchers due this... Rooms booked through third party online retailers, such as Expedia.com, Orbitz.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Priceline, etc. as well as rooms booked through any other 3rd party online retailers that require pre-payment are not eligible for Points or Elite night credit. Wholesale packages and series tours are not eligible for Points or Elite night credit regardless of booking source. tj Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 That's really strange. In early April I stayed 6 nights at the Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa using the travelzoo 75% off offer. On my Marriott Rewards statement all the nights are credited to Elite status! Here's the relevant part of my statement (it's the only Marriott I've stayed at this year till 2 weeks ago) Silver As of 27/04/2013 XX,XXX points 6 nights this year Quote

Here's the relevant part of my statement (it's the only Marriott I've stayed at this year till 2 weeks ago) Yes, fh I find it strange & confusing too... I thought for sure one would get points/nights credits when booking online using 3rd party websites. But the rules say otherwise. The desk manager at Courtyard Marriott Bangkok confirmed the rules as well... that is why I looked them up on the Marriott website. I do not want to take the chance...considering the FREE night voucher for 2 stays this summer. I can earn 2 FREE vouchers with 4 stays at Marriott this summer...a nice bonus. tj Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I have never read the Marriott Elite regulations (nor those of any other hotel chain, for that matter!), but I wonder if perhaps travelzoo is not the same as agoda, hotels.com and the other booking engines. These have a contract with the hotels for a specific number of rooms at a specific price (or prices). Travelzoo is different in that the offer comes directly from the hotel through travelzoo. Yes, you book the vouchers through travelzoo, but then it is up to you to contact the hotel yourself to book your dates. So it is technically a transaction between you as the consumer and the hotel as the provider. Travelzoo has no contract to sell any rooms at all. It merely extends an offer that comes directly from the hotel. Maybe another poster may know the answer. But I would do the same as you, Jim, and not take a chance of losing the free night promotion.
