BKK to DMG

Not sure if thyis belongs here or in Gay Bali topic but it doesn't look like there's been any action there in some time.

Starting to plan a birthday trip for late July. Been thinking about a fist trip to Bali. I can get to BKK using miles on Delta. Best fare from BKK is Air Asia which flies out of Don Muang exclusively I read. I also read about free transfers between the two airports. Can anyone confirm? Delta arrives around 23:30. From past trips I know it doesn't make sense to head "downtown" as everything will be closed by the time I get there. Air Asia leaves for Bali the next morning at round 6:30 AM. Is it best to head to DMG that evening and find a place to stay, or stay near BKK and transfer in the Morning?

Thanks in advance.

DMK.

Much better to stay in the city for one or two nights, then fly out.  Make it a nice comfortable holiday, not some punishment.

Agree with z909. But if you are determined to fly out to Bali the next morning, I suggest it's best to transfer late evening rather than in the morning when the transfer will be very fast. Who knows what could happen if you wait? Rush hour traffic won't have started by 04:30, but a taxi with a flat tyre, a big accident blocking the motorway etc.

There are transfer buses, but I can't imagine they run after midnight. Hopefully others can clarify this.

If your flight to BKK arives on time, the earliest you can arrive at Don Muangis between 0100 and 0200 the next day so you're only going to get around 3 hours sleep before you have to check in for the flight to Bali.

I'd go to DMK and I'd book the Amari hotel which is literally just across the road from the airport, with a walkway connecting the two. That would minimise the time spent in taxis which would matter to me if I only had 5 hours between one flight landing and checking in for the next.

Again a case where gays simply do not know-(or as I suspect are too rich or spoilt to get bothered with this) go to any of the well-known general travel sites and info abounds.

A FREE shuttle bus runs between the 2-at least hourly (on the hour, in 1 hour), from 6.00-0.00. Go to lowest level-open eyes+follow signs, ditto for the taxis. Check if last one has gone, if there is still the payable minivan (nr. 555//54- 40 or 50 THB- no space for luggage)

In between there MAY still be the odd local citybus (in fact they use the very same ones for the shuttle- orange Ac BMTA citybuses from Mercedes) 555, 554 will also do-fare is 33 THB, but this is from the BUSterminal at swampy-get there by free white shuttlebus. However, it seems that by now all nite-time buses have ceased to run. Taximeter would be about 250/300 THB +50 bt airpot surcharge-no need for paid tollways by that time.

sleepinginairports.org has info re staying overnite+available options.

IF you crave a good massage+extra for a quick taste of thailand, contact beforehand K-male, which sits about in the southern approach to DMK, Laksi Plaza, but they close by 23/24.00-fone ahead for an appointment. 554 stops opposite, 555 not. they advertise on thaimassageboy [or not] and gthai.net, ask for chris

If you have to wait half an hour for your luggage, travel 1 hour from one to the other airport (waiting time for bus not included), and start check-in two hours before departure, it's not worth booking a hotel (at least by my standards, but then I once spent a night in Paris Orly because I didn't want to take a taxi in the early morning, so I took the last bus the night before). Having a few days stopover would be my suggestion.

To rich or spoilt (spoiled)? I am certainly not rich and was never one to be spoiled. We have never met so how can you make such an accusation? Yes the Airport code is DMK and I mis-typed it. Didn't bother to check? I have checked the free sites before and found many yo be inaccurate, so I thought I would ask those who have actually made the trip. If you felt I was rich or spoiled why not just pass by my post rather than make judgements on someone you don't know.

I for one appreciate this board because some are willing to share their first-hand experiences without feeling the need to demean anyone for asking..

I returned to BKK late last night. On leaving Customs, I noticed a board with info about a free hourly shuttle to DMK but the last bus is definitely 10:00pm. I think it was an official AOT shuttle but I passed too quickly to check. When I picked up my bag around 00:15, I noted that the Delta flight was a bit late arriving!
