Guest Devint6669 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 This post will be about my Songkran but first I will begin with a description of this festival for the reader that n'ever heard about Songkran before, This festival usually happens the weekend that falls closest to the weekend of April 13-15 at least in Bangkok. It can lastmuch longer in Pattaya.Songkran has traditionally been celebrated as the New Year for many centuries in Thailand and asia & south east asia, this festival is about celebrating the end of the dry season. The only place in Thailand that still celebrates this holiday in the right way is the city of Chiang Mai in my humbel opinion, where it continues for six days and even longer if you feel like doing it longer. A lot's of foreigners come to Thailand during this festival and also for more additional reason like visit Thailand for immersion in another culture the food and much more.Back on the subject of my experience on this year festival. I started the day by going to buy a water gun for the first day so I would be able to have some fun shooting moving targets (cute boys). I decided to buy my gun at Tesco Lotus because before the festival I went over this department store to make my grocery and I saw some very good specials on water guns. They were very cheap to buy, because most of them where special at 2 for the price of 1, this means i payed 197 thb for two guns… This was really inexpensive because in my past years I always buy my gun on the street I spend more that 1000 for one water gun and it was the for the same kind of toy. Thats why i got ready in advance and got one at Tesco .This year Songkran festival was not my most favorite of them all, we always look to make it feel like it was in the past. Now i understand when say that it's never like the first time. On the first day I when on Khaosan Road, because in the past I really enjoy my time over there .By going in the club or just to have a beer to relax with some friends. Also I got many friend in the past that told me that was a really good place to go have a good water fight. This is why I made my decision to go there this year. But now that I try it. I probably never do this again in the future. (Why? You would say!) It was a bit too crazy and crowded for me, even if i had some good time at shooting at all the guys and girl sthat i saw walking around…This year on the Thai new's channel their say that selling alcohol would a been illegal, but as every one in Thailand knows the government talk a lot's but doesn't do anything really of what their say they will do, I even saw Police officer drunk as shit walking around this was really funny, I try to take photo of him, but he made me delete my photo and he was not very gentle about It. It was a bad decision on my part that for sure. You can make sure I won't be making this mistake again in the future, because their push me around until i delete my all flash card not just the photo of them but everything. Here is the rule that their put in the Bangkok post online…I will tell you the one that their respect.1) You shall not drink and drive. ( It's was more respected)2) You shall not drink and douse. ( This was a joke all the bar sold alcohol and at some bar there offed me to get some drug)3) Thou shalt not put ice in the throwing water. ( This was also not respected because i got shoot by many guy's that freeze my dick off.)4) You shall not use high-pressure water guns. ( It was not respect but in over all it was.)5) Thou shalt not do dirty dancing. ( This was not respected because i saw all over the place guy's and girl all most naked.)6) Also, get off the pavements, you Bangkok vendor people. ( As can see in my post i was talking about a place i stood in the street and there are street vendor)s7) You shall not paint reluctant faces white. Translation: No flour ambushing. ( How stop a tradition like that one and it did not work) You shall remove all water tanks and pumps from the bed of the pickup. (Not work)9) You shall remember that Songkran is a traditional and essential part of Thai culture, when tiny amounts of lustral water are poured on the hands of older family members as a sign of respect. (This did happen but only in some remote area where most travellers don't really go expect Phuket)10) Thou shalt not grope. ( This was a joke guy's touch all my part of my body event where i wish there did not touch)This have been the rule for this year festival.Let's get back on the subject now. After this i decide to go on Khaosan rd. for having more action, This was a poor decision on my part. Because you could barely walk there 1000 's of guy's and girl's around the place… After a couple of hour i decided out of this area and found some of my friends standing at a stand on the on of the side street, This was really nice because i could walk away from the water shooting if i want to… I got some white powder as it is one of the tradition to do on this festival and i plater it all over the nice looking boy's this was fun because i had the chance to touch some very cute boy's. After a couple hours i decided to go back home. Because i was very tired of the day i had and i so wet that i needed to get dry…This is the end of Friday (Day one) done. The next day I did not make the same mistake again by going to Khaosan rd. I decided to go to Silom road and for guy's that don't know where is Silom it's at the Saladeang staition on the sky train. Because in the past I really enjoy my time when i when for some of my previous years to celebrate this festival,Let me explains how much i love this place. Songkran on Silom was the reason why I decided to live in Thailand, I must have come to thailand at least 4 times before, and then I experienced Silom Songkran festival it started this spark in my heart, After that moment I wanted to live in Thailand. From that small moment I decided my entire future it was unbelievable how such a small moment made the chance for me, I will never regretted that I made this small change, It open my soul to a great culture, great experience and a lot's of craziness.Let's get back on the subject of that night on Silom, If you been there you have seen how crazy it was over there, their were thousands of people all compress in a small area if you are not there you can't imagine. I was surrounded by gay guy's, you can picture the quantity and quality of good looking and all wet that I saw all around me. Guys and Women were shooting water at each other and buying all the water from the little stand, and the water war was done because there had no more water available anymore around silom. What you think happen after that the young kid find out that we are out of stuck on the water supply. There starting by demanding water very laughably and then getting crazy. It started a riot for demanding more water, that when I ran out. I could not tell you more about what happen after because I left this street to find somewhere more peaceful. Then I realize that I was not so far away of the gogo boy's corner… I when on my way and shoot everything I could see around me on the way to the street. When I got there I had one of the funniest moment ever a guy's told me I cannot go there with my water gun. I then say to this guy that no one has water anymore because Silom ran out on water supply. He then took my gun and open it to see if was telling the truth. This guy's was a bit funny because once I past him I got pin down at Banana Bar and HotMale Bar, they almost drown me on spot.Next I when to the show at Dream boy I was good like always… It was so crowded of guy's trying to run away from the water fight. After that I when back home and sleep I was so tired with the day I had..Sunday I did nothing because i was so sick from the water… I had to go to the hospital and they told me i got kind of infection from derby water that guy's have been throwing at me from the previous two days… I had to stay in house for the remaining week… Let's say why now my SongKran was not so great.Except for the hospital it was a great time of the year there are full of all kinds of people and fun from the two previous days. Please everyone tell us your experiences of this Great Festival wherever you were?? Thank guys for reading my adventure report.. Quote
khaolakguy Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Glad to hear that you enjoyed this. It's great fun for a few years, but the novelty wanes. The cleanliness of the water is often an issue leading to infection. I remember about four years ago when the main coast road in Khao Lak was blocked by fighting villagers at Songkran. It had started as a gentle tradition, but it reignited old trouble between two villages. Traffic was held for twenty minutes while the road was cleared. TotallyOz 1 Quote
TotallyOz Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Songkran is my favorite Thai holiday. I hate I missed it this year. Great post and photos. Thank you for sharing this! Quote
KhorTose Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Great report Devint, glad you had a good time. I am amazed at how many ex-pats hide during Song Kran.Nice to see you are not one of them. I enjoyed my fourth Song Kran here in Chiang mai where it last three to four days, and yes, all the same rules are ignored. I have traveled to many places in the world, and I cannot think of where an event like this can take place without some tremendous mayhem going on at the same time. I, for one, have never seen a fight in Chiang Mai, and watching the fun the kids have during this holiday more then makes up for a little getting wet or powdered. You must look like your picture. No-one except my BF ever gropes me during song kran. Again, thanks for the pictures and report. Quote

You are absolutely correct. In the USA if you grope people without permission you can be arrested, and that is the way it should be. Quote
Guest scottishguy Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I regret I am completely unable to share anybody's outrage at being groped - I have nothing to base my empathy on. Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 I was once groped in a Skytrain carriage. He looked about 25, was slim and cute. I have been hoping ever since that I'd be groped again! Quote

KhorTose Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Songran in Chiang Mai---this year a four day event. One of these boys is allowed to grope me. [ Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 Did he get your wallet? No, but then he chose an odd pace to try and find it. I don't usually carry it between my legs He was looking me straight in the face as he did the deed. I was tempted to reciprocate, but then I am naturally shy! Quote
ChristianPFC Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 http://gaybuttonthai.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5642 http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/christianpfc-first-songkran-t28683.html I found one positive thing about Songkran: there is very little smoking. Should I ever participate again in Songkran, and should this be active (this year I only received water and powder), I will aim at smokers and try to douse/dowse their cigarettes. kokopelli and TotallyOz 2 Quote

Well maybe this could explain his groping? … skid mark underwear money safeSometimes solutions to problems are a lot easier than they would first appear. Take finding a hiding place for you valuables. Conventional wisdom would lead you to hide them away in some hard to find secret location with the hope a thief wouldn’t look there. A better solution would be to find a spot where the burglar wouldn’t go even if he could see it. That is the concept behind the underwear skid mark safe. The “Brief Safe” is an innovative diversion safe that can secure your cash, documents, and other small valuables from inquisitive eyes and thieving hands, both at home and when you’re traveling. Items can be hidden right under their noses with these specially-designed briefs which contain a fly-accessed 4″ x 10″ secret compartment with Velcro® closure and “special markings” on the lower rear portion. Leave the “Brief Safe” in plain view in your laundry basket or washing machine at home, or in your suitcase in a hotel room — even the most hardened burglar or most curious snoop will “skid” to a screeching halt as soon as they see them — wouldn’t you? Made in USA. One size. Color: White (and Brown). Pretty ingenious. I mean if you were a thief would you be looking through soiled underwear? Since to object is to keep the thief away from the money and most burglars wouldn’t even come close to these, I think it’s a fairly safe bet these could be an effective place to hide your money and valuables. They are currently on sale for $29.95 (regularly $39.95) at efind out the truth. Now, in the spirit of saving money, I could go on about how you could make your own more frugally, but I think I’ll stay away from that on this occassion Quote
