Adam's Apple Chiang Mai - Improvements?

Recommended Posts

When the 'new' Adam's Apple opened a few years ago, I went with some friends and was mightily disappointed. The format of a fun bar had been totally changed - considerably for the worse. This was borne out on a couple of subsequent visits, and on the last two I did not even go near the bar.

One of the same friends was in Chiang Mai last week and decided to give it another try. He said the format seems to have changed again, there were a lot of attractive guys and he had a great time. The young Malaysian mama-san was also very helpful. I wonder: has it changed ownership yet again?

I was last in Adams Apple maybe 5 or 6 yrs ago  - I found it very strange and rather expensive.

Suffice to say we ordered a bottle of Whisky at around the normal price you might pay in a Pattaya gogo at the time - because we thought it offered better value than individual drinks - except when it arrived it turned out to be a 1/2 bottle!!

The whole CM bar scene was quite depressing - well, I'd been told to expect it to be quieter than BKK or Pattaya, but I remember we went to Coffee Boy and there was 1 boy. Many of the other bars weren't much busier - although the Night Market bars were quite interesting.

The "highlight" of the trip was leaving the Lotus Hotel and nipping round the corner at 1am to an Internet Cafe for an hour and getting back to the hotel to find it completely locked! No amount of bell-pushing summoned any receptionist. I had to sit on the terrace till 7am getting bitten to death by mosquitoes before the day staff showed up.

I can't say I'm desperate to go back. LOL

Adams Apple has changed mamasans--well added a newer one--and does have a new format, and several younger guys. Still not to my taste and the show is still a mix of porn and drag. The two surviving bars in the night market have moved and are doing very good business in spite of an attempt by one web site to make people go elsewhere---like to his location--by falsely panting the area as dangerous and filled with underage straight hill tribe boys. We do have a new bar from the Bangkok crowd and I am going tonight with another poster from this site to check it out. It is called g-star and I will report back on what I find. I now recommend the out magazine site for a gay guide to Chiang Mai, as it does not try to steer people to any one area based on its own self interest.

You should really give Chiang Mai another try Scotty. Our mosquitoes sure miss the great taste of Scotch. :yahoo:

I was in CM around 16 months ago. I visited most of the main bars including Adam's Apple, though none in the night market. I found all the bars subdued and depressing. And could say the same for some of the customers too. The few boys I offed from the bars were useless. Seems a shortage of bottom boys at least in the bar scene.Though I did have a good one from one of the daytime massage places. However I met some decent guys on Gay Romeo including a few freebies.

The truth is that many of the boys in CM have realized its' better for them to seek work away from CM in the likes of BKK, Pattaya and Phuket.

On my last trip to Chiang Mai (September last year?) I visited Adam's Apple and made a mental note "go again next time". There were 3 boys who were my type, which is above average. I offed one of them and was satisfied.

Good, we can count on you not coming back?

Most of the boys in these places are from Issan. News flash, Chiang Mai is not Issan. There are plenty of bottom boys in Chiang Mai, but they are not on stage with a number stuck to them. It takes skill and personality to meet them. Sorry you failed.

G-Star. Went to the club tonight and was underwhelmed. The music so loud you cannot talk, there are no chairs, and it is mostly Thais who are not gay. The show is all straight Shan boys who did a good dance, but were not readily available to customers. They were in their underwear, and if you are a bottom they were great. The only single drinks were beers. For the rest you had to buy or bring a bottle. Red Label 1150 Baht, mixers 35 baht, ice bucket 70 baht, and beer 120 Baht. Very similar to Seaman club, but wit5h no chairs and too loud music. They need to change their format. They were crowded, because they are new, but like Seaman club when the newness wears off they will abandon it to go to Mandalay where the real action is.

Anywhere that has the fabulous audacity to have a gay venue called the Semen Club gets my vote!!

Even if they do mis-spell it

Had to go up to Chiang Mai late last year and visited Adams Apple.  Not many people there but there was a nice group of boys BUT the boys all sat BEHIND the seats for the visitors and you could not see them unless you turned around and stared!  They did a not time walk through with numbers written in some font that was difficult to read.  I left without anyone.

I have ran into this in another bar in Chiang Mai and wondered if there was some special reason for sitting behind the visitors.

I've never offed guys from bars in Chiang Mai. Friends have and I've been told they have almost always been total duds. On the other hand, I've had great times at some of the massage places, especially 2 Brothers, and at the House of Male sauna. On their two-for-one buddy nights, there are usually lots of horny students.

I posted my horrible experience at Adam's Apple on another message board back in December. Too loud. Weird "meeting" before the show with patrons in the bar which was incredibly unprofessional. Strobe lights that gay me a terrible headache. Some very cute boys but too many negatives for me to have any interest in going back.

K-T: You misunderstand. Many of the home grown CM boys(especially the bottom ones) leave to go and work in places such as BKK, Pattaya and Phuket .It has nothing to do with who is or who is not on the stage at the various boy bars in CM. I know because I have met many CM boys in these other places.

When you say:

"we can count on you not coming back?"

I do not know who this "we" is you are referring too.

Your review of G-Star sounds like another good reason to stay away from CM......

I know because I have met many CM boys in these other places.

Many equals three or four. I have been to all of those places and most of the boys I meet on or off stage are from the poorer areas of Thailand. I have meet a lot of boys from Bangkok up here in Chiang Mai. You think maybe these boys move around a lot, or is that just too simple an answer for you? How about there are plenty of bottoms here, but you can't find them---a thought that I am sure has not occurred to you, but is obvious to me.

When you say:

"we can count on you not coming back?"

The "we" is the customers you referred to "subdued and depressing. And could say the same for some of the customers too"

Your review of G-star is I guess appropriate which tells "us" a lot about CM and those foreigners that live there..........

Say no more.

Yes, thank you for mentioning my review. However, you ability to read is right up there with you grammar and punctuation, as this new bar owner is from the Radchada area in Bangkok where you seem to like the scene.

-I never said I could not find bottoms in CM I was referring to what is available in the bars. I had mentioned about getting Romeo boys. All bottoms, some free.

From the ones I met via GR I formed the impression the boys in CM have a poor impression of the farangs who live in CM. That is why those that are able will leave the place asap: haha.

And no need to try and attack my reading, grammar, and punctuation. it just shows how touchy you are when anyone tries to tell the truth about CM.

I have to add that my friends who visit Chiang Mai do tend to bear out the lack of bottoms working in the bars. They seem to think that most of the guys are straight and less keen to bottom. On the other hand, whenever I go to House of Male, it always seems to be a tops paradise  :p

I had forgotten about the strobe lights in Adam's Apple which, like fedssocr, also gave me a headache. I will check with my friends if they have finally disappeared.

Why not attack your grammer if it reads like your logic. So you prefer boys in the bar where they are easy to find. I am sure for the right amount of money (probably a lot) they would even tell you what a nice guy you are. Also your brilliance in reading the expats in Chiang mai from your stool in Adams Apple is truly underwhelming, as much as how you can discern from GR what the boys truly think. Hint, whatever you want them to think. I am astonished at how many expats we have moving here from Pattaya and Bangkok, because they are tired of associating with the sex tourist that predominate the gay scene in both cities. While I have met some great people who are here as sex tourist, most are like a bad beachlover description. However, I am sure those would be the ones you would be most at home with. Of course, I am using the same bullshit logic here as you use to describe the people you viewed in Adams Apple. It seems to work for you, so I thought I would sound stupid as well.

While I'm not getting into the pissing match, I tend to remain unimpressed when an infrequent visitor to an area starts making sweeping statements (based on his whole 2-3 days or week up here in Chiangmai) about what Chiangmai boys want or do, what Chiangmai expats want or are like, etc., etc..  It's surely appropriate to report on what one sees in another area based on a short vacation but probably somewhat wise not to reach too many broad conclusions based on one's contacts with half a dozen or so barboys.

The problem with correcting other people's grammar is that quite often one ends up making an error oneself - and that can be rather embarrassing!

Of course, but it did provide a lead-in to his dumb comment about patrons at at Adams Apple. Who, by the way, are mostly from his neck of the woods. I really think he was probably looking into opne of the many mirrors on the walls at the time he came to this conclusion. This is not the first time this man has come up with this crap. I am surprised that you regular posters on SGT do not recognize Zinzone. He said almost the same thing word for word on SGT and both I and bon ton, someone I often disagree with, told him how wrong he was to believe that. However, he is just dumb enough to believe he knows better then us what Chiang Mai is like in his short visit here. Perceptive or just full of ....---you decide.

Wow KT I really don't know how you recognise all these hydras (and I'm being sincere) - I must admit I just take people at face value until they give me reason not to.

More casually thrown abuse from KT. Does he have some sort of dispensation to behave like this here? Why does he always think that someone he doesn't agree with is some kind of secret shadow following him!

I had a great time at Adams Apple, and with a versatile guy from there, last year.

So is it your point that someone can go into a club filled with out of town people and determine what the residents of Chiang Mai are like.  Also, can someone decide in a couple of days without asking a local or doing some research what kind of boys are in town or available?  From an earlier message I think that you could not, but a gentleman from New York who often posted on SGT contacted me and I took him to a club where such boys are available.  He already had a posse with him, as he had found that kind of boy at Adams Apple, so he left with his three boys in tow, perfectly happy.  These bottom boys are there. All you have to do is some research, or ask.  What you are never--or at least now--going to find is these kind of boys in one area of town and on stage, able and willing.  If you have ever looked at any report on gay Chiang mai you would have known that was true before you even arrived.  So if you get disappointed it is your own fault, and to slam the town, or even worse, the residents is the height of arrogance and just plain stupid.  How is that for face value?

K-T : do you realize your postings often read like coming from an embittered obnoxious old man......

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and tell us the name of this club with all these bottom boys supposedly are offering themselves?

Your latest rant is very odd as earlier in this thread you were condemning what you call "sex tourists".....

Dear oh dear.....

Dear oh dear, so you are unable to read either.  I am not condemning all sex tourist, quite the contrary.  however, you can say--as i admited --that I was demonstrating bullshit logic similar to what you use.

KT - there's no need to go off on a 10 line rant at me!

My point (and I made it perfectly clear it was a sincere point) was that I take people's identity at face value until they prove otherwise.

I made absolutely no comment on the veractity or validity or otherwise of Zombie's observations on CM, so "my point" has nothing to do with that.

Frankly, I think you should re-read what I posted and review whether your rather angry response to me was in any way appropriate..
