Guest wowpow
I want to book an hotel in Chiang Mai for 3 nights in January. The only ones that I found nice were: The Royal Princess which is now pricey c 2800 baht a night and they want a joiners fee plus Asia rooms have some very poor customer reviews. Chiang Mai Plaza was nice although the location a bit odd. I read on the boards that they dumped a load of bookings made on the internet so I think I'll give that a miss. I have used The Star Inn but it became too decrepid over the years. The Suriwong is a disappointment as is the new one next door. The River Ping Palace was a real disaster - I only lasted one night. I know the Montri but would like something a tad smarter. The Novotel looks good value thought the location is out of center it is convenient for bars and Simon Cabaret. I would appreciate and advise from others. I don't want to leave booking too late and finish up sleeping in the Temple crematorium even though the rate of 20 baht with a blanket is great. ? Guest Trongpai
Do not book with Chaing mai on-line. A few days before the Flower Expo they cancelled my booking and would not make another. They also have NOT given me a refund. They do not answer the phone and do not respond to E mails. I ended up at the Diamond Riverside, a total dump with jacked up prices. The tuk tuks are also jacking up prices too, some wanted 100B for trips under 3km. PJ's is nice and he is not increasing the rates but is very busy. Guest Snowkat
I want to book an hotel in Chiang Mai for 3 nights in January. The only ones that I found nice were: I can highly recommend the Santitham Guest House. Prices are fantastic value. I know it is not a hotel as such and is small (only 7 rooms) but the service is excellent and it is not too far from Simon Cabaret. You may have difficulty getting a room however as the place is popular and has been full every time I stayed. http://www.santitham.com/home.html
Bob
I'd still recommend the Porn Ping. Great location as far as I'm concerned (can walk to the night market, night market bars, Wararot Market, etc.). Depending on the dates, anywhere from 1200 to 1800 baht a night. I've stayed there 7 or 8 times and just finished a 3-week stay there. Note: Ask for a Tower room on a high floor or the Bubbles Disco in the basement or the Hotshot bar on the first floor might bother you at night. As for PJ's, looked like a nice place but I didn't like the location. It's great for going to the mall or to Soho Bar but, other than that, really can't walk anywere from PJ's. Trongpai is correct about Diamond Riverside.....avoid the place.
Smiles
http://www.santitham.com/home.html Thanks for mentioning this guest house Snowkat. It was posted in a message some time ago on Sawatdee and at the time I remember thinking it looked very inviting ... with prices to match. But I forgot to stash it away, couldn't remember the name, who posted it etc etc etc. It's in my Hotel 'favourites' now and hope to try it one of these days. Most appreciated. Cheers ... Guest GaySacGuy
I spend a week at Novotel in mid Ocotber. It was very gay friendly, didn't charge for an overnight guest, and was in the best location for the gay bars that exist in the area (The New My Way, Free Guy, Circle Pub, and one other that I don't recall the name of). I would stay there again.
Guest YardenUK
We stayed at PJ's Place around a month ago having read Stef's review online. It is really very beautiful - big airy clean rooms, TV, free high speed internet in every room and a great breakfast - 1500 BHT per night.
