TotallyOz Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Great way to earn more points if you fly Delta! http://dmn.delta.com/ace_plrs/DoubleMilesToAsia/?MkCpgn=EMSPOPAA002953021513094841-A01A-A Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Great offer, but the small print is always important. I’m not in the Delta programme but I note it says the promotion is only available to “targeted members” Only members who receive this communication directly from Delta Air Lines are eligible to participate in this offer. This offer is non-transferable. To participate in this offer, targeted members must first register online by December 31, 2013 So just reading this offer here may not mean you qualify (unless "targeted" is a euphemism for every member!)Secondly, earn double bonus miles on all flight segments purchased with a published fare that earns full mileage accrual i.e. the cheapest tickets may not qualify! TotallyOz Posted February 16, 2013 Author Posted February 16, 2013 I think both of those apply for most airline deals. I had friends that didn't get that promotion email click and they were entered as well. But, they all travel with Delta. If you are not a regular Delta customer, I am not sure any of these miles deals are worthwhile but for me they are. I have one friend that would go Business Class to Hong Kong 2 times a year to maintain his Platinum Status when they offered the fares cheap. He flew over for one day and then back. For some people who do watch their points and miles, these deals really can be worthwhile. As for the cheapest tickets, that is very common. If you purchase with Delta.com it should qualify. I have not booked with any airline directly that did not give you their miles. If you purchase from a consolidator, then it may not. I only ran into this once when I book a business fare from a consolidator for about 70 percent of what the airline charged. It was worth it for me but it did not accrue any miles. I also know that some Expedia fares work and some do not. Same for other sites like that. I guess it just depends on which is more important to someone, booking the cheapest ticket and saving 100 dollars or getting the miles. On a recent trip I am taking in Brazil, I'll fly into Sao Paulo on Delta and out from Rio. While inside the country I wanted to visit a few other cities and so I used Delta's partner GOL. It was a real PITA as they website doesn't work well and often you have to call to book the tickets. But, I spent a day doing this as I wanted my miles while traveling in that country. I booked Sao Paulo to Fortaleza and then to Salvador and then to Porto Alegre and then to Rio. So, I'll do 3 other cities other than Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro. The country is vast and I saw no need to book with TAM airline even though it was about 150 USD cheaper and not get points. Plus, as a priority member, I get good seats and first pick on the seats, extra luggage allowance and priority boarding. This is not important for some people that travel lightly but I'll have 3 suitcases with me and I want to be sure I get them all covered with my ticket. If I had not traveled with GOL, I would have to pay for excess which would be higher than the savings. Often when traveling, you need to look at all these little things and determine what is best for you. Quote
kokopelli Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I tried to enter the promotion and was told to go fly a kite! So much for my standing with Delta. Oh, fly a kite, maybe that meant something else? TotallyOz 1 Quote
firecat69 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Typical DL Useless to their supposedly good customers. I have been Platinum for many years and well over million miles and I cannot sign up for this promotion. They suck for using miles and for how they treat their customers. kokopelli and TotallyOz 2 Quote
TotallyOz Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 Typical DL Useless to their supposedly good customers. I have been Platinum for many years and well over million miles and I cannot sign up for this promotion. They suck for using miles and for how they treat their customers. With so many miles, you don't need any more so they turned you down. They only give these offers to those of us who can't fly around the world 10 times free. Quote
firecat69 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I sent them an email complaining about how they give these promotions to rich guys who always use their mile to upgrade exorbitant economy fares to Business Class to Brazil and screw poor boys like me who give away their miles to friends . Of course I didn't use any names? TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I did - and they said: "Oh, no! Not HIM again! Quote
