Guest fountainhall Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I note the Board was down yesterday and there have been changes to make it easier to see whose post you are quoting from. However, when I highlight a section near the start of a quoted post (but not, please note, the poster details) and then press 'delete', I lose all my draft post and the page automatically goes back to the forum. I have tried this many times. The only way I can delete part of a post is to place the curser on one letter and then continuously delete with my finger on the key. Even then, I have to be careful when I get close to the start of the post because again there's a danger of automatically going back to the forum page. There was never any problem with quoting from other posts before changes were made some weeks ago. As GB has said many times, since it wasn't broke', why change it it??? Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Sites must be updated. Anyone who doesn't do this regularly is a not being smart or practical. IMHO Recently, the site was down as there were issues regarding bugs. Updates secures these things. They are important even if no one understands. For your question, is the "light switch" at the top of your edit box highlighted or not? Test this and change it to see if that clears up the issue. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Sorry, the heading should be about using the 'quote' button and editing within 'quotes' - not specifically the 'edit' button. E.g. I clicked 'quote' on Michael's post and highlighted only the first paragraph. I pressed 'delete' - and I'm back to the forum page! This only happens when - i. you highlight and then try to delete a passage that includes the first word, or ii. you try to delete just the first letter. - but it never happened before. I fully understand the need to update. But why change a procedure like quotes which worked perfectly well before the bug and has never worked since? Quote

Guest Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 The new editing facility doesn't work reliably. Frequently it won't let me move the cursor to the correct position. Therefore, I would prefer the return of the old one. Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I am trying to figure out what is different in the editor and I can't see it. Z, did you click the light switch at the top left to see if this made a difference? Quote
Rogie Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 . . . click the light switch at the top left to see if this made a difference? I just spotted the Light switch! I see now if it's off you are restricted rather like using plain text in an email. Switching it on restores it to 'rich text' mode. TotallyOz 1 Quote
Guest Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Z, did you click the light switch at the top left to see if this made a difference? That seems much better, thank you. I'm hoping it defaults to the light switched off position. However, when editing, the text shows I'm quoting Michael. After posting, it does not state who is being quoted in the post. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 BOARD OWNER - please note! Another quite major technical problem hasarisen with writing posts. I frequently write longer posts on a word file. Thisis especially useful when I consider what and how to write a post over a fewhours, when I am referring back and forth between various sources, and it’seasier to use the spell checker when I’m finished. Prior to the latest ‘upgrade’, I couldtransfer those posts merely by copying and pasting. Now when I click the ‘paste’into the open post, the text is all over the shop! The right margin comes halfway across the page thereby leaving the right half empty, and it is complicatedto sort that out. Paragraph spaces are several spaces larger than they should be. It’s not a problem with my computer andword programme as that’s how I have been doing long posts for years. Had I leftthe “Apple and Facebook’s Inevitable Failure” post as it was pasted in, itwould have looked ridiculous and taken up 3 times the space. And then, evenafter the post has been edited to make it fit the space correctly, afterposting there remain words joined together and various other little problems. Will someone please look into this? As an example, the above is what now happenswhen a perfectly edited piece of text is copied and pasted into a gaythailandpost!! So, again I have to ask, why was it necessary to change such a basic function???? Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 So, again I have to ask, why was it necessary to change such a basic function???? I am sure you realize that Scooby did not change the way the edit function operates. Right? This is done at the Invision level. Invision is a company that makes the board software. They control every aspect of that. Just an FYI I am going to copy and paste some things here that I have to see the function. It would help to know which word processor you are using. Quote

TotallyOz Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Copy and Paste from MS Word. Fortaleza – Saunas, Sex And Sun Hello my little boy toys, big old bears, terrific twinks and fellow cockaholics. Today, we're going to tell you about one of the most fun gaycation spots in South America – Fortaleza, Brazil. The name comes from the Portuguese word for “fort,” and was at one point the chief seaside fortress in the region. Today, it's not so military – but is instead a wonderful bohemian city on the beach that offers a sextacular lifestyle for anyone who cares to cruise down to visit. You'll find that while there are tons of gay European tourists, the number of American tourists are fairly low. Because of this, you may have more of a language barrier than in other South American hot spots, but if you speak even a little bit of any Euro language, you should be fine. The city has become known as one of the best places in the world for gay cruising, particularly if you are interested in hot young male escorts (and, really, who isn't?). So, let's take a little tour of fine-for-fucking Fortaleza. Beach Bums! The main tourist activity in Fortaleza is hitting the beach. There are 16 miles of beaches along the coast, with everything from family-friendly sunbathing spots (boring!) to super hot gay cruising beaches. The Barraca Cabumba beach is where you want to hang out if you just want to mingle with fellow happy homos. It's a gay beach where people come to relax and bake off their hangovers after a night of hitting the hot, hot bar scene. You'll have a great chances of meeting cute guys here you can hang out with later, though it's not much of a hookup beach. If you want your chance to get some sex into your beach bum sexperience, then head over to Meireles beach, where the action is much hotter. Here is where you can find Mr. Right Now and head to a secluded spot for some private fun time. Both beaches are heavily gay and you won't have to worry about being surrounded by boring breeders. Rent Boy Paradise Can we be blunt? When you are in Fortaleza and not going to the beach, your main other activity will be playing with the rent boys. There are more of them here per capita than in Rio, so you'll never be at at a loss for finding your own little male escort. Your only challenge will be that the nicer hotels require you to register your guests, and will frown upon you bringing an escort back with you. This, of course, stops neither rent boys nor their customers. There are plenty of rent-by-the-hour “love hotels” that are fairly cheap and will ask no questions about who you bring in with you. That said, sometimes you don't really want to go to all that hassle. This is why the male escorts have learned how to work the saunas and many, many small dark rooms in the gay bars and clubs. At any given time, figure that 80 percent of the young guys in the saunas and clubs are for hire on the spot. You just talk to them, agree on a price, and then head over to a secluded spot of the sauna or club and get your gay on. Because of the sheer numbers of rent boys working the bars and saunas, the prices are somewhat lower than in Rio or other Brazilian cities. If bars, clubs and saunas are not your thing but you still want to grab a male escort, then simply head over to Avenida Beira Mar, where what seems at first glance to be a cruising scene is actually a hot and heavy rent boy scene. One quick note – while Fortaleza is a very safe city, there have been some reports of rip-off artist rent boys slipping drugged drinks to tourists to rob them. In general, the way to avoid this is to never accept a drink from a potential rent boy (why would he be buying you a drink anyway?) and to keep your glass in your hands at all times. If the guy asks to “share a drink” with you, assume he's trying to rip you off and move on to another boy. Other Fun Fortaleza Activities When in Fortaleza you'll spend 80 percent of your time either at the beach or cruising for guys. This city is sex central, so why not? Still, there are some other things to do and we'd be remiss if we didn't pass them on. Fortaleza offers one of the most spectacular sunsets in Brazil. The best place to see it is the entertainingly named Ponte Metallica. (Yes, with the exception of “Ride The Rentboy” the exact T-shirts you are envisioning in your mind right now are on sale there.) The History Train at Banco de Norteste is a good tourist ride that will tell you interesting stories about Fortaleza, including one about one of the old Emperors having a long-term gay lover affair. It's not to be missed. The Museu de Arte e Cultura Popula is a cultural museum set in an old prison that offers you interesting examples of traditional Fortaleza craft culture. It's a good place to buy souvenirs for your mom. If you want to see some local culture, head over to the Theatro José de Alenca. This theater is not only an architectural marvel; it has interesting shows every hour on the hour, so you can head over and have something to see while killing time before hitting the many bars and clubs. Get Ready To Go Down In Fortaleza! There you go – the ho-down and lowdown on Fortaleza, Brazil. Come on over, and maybe we'll share a rent boy sometime! Quote

TotallyOz Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 OK. I see now the difference. There is a Light Switch looking thing at the top of the edit box. Can you please click that and then recopy and paste your same document above. This will solve this problem. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Thanks Michael. I work on Apples and so have been using Office for Mac's word programme for years. As I said, I never had this problem before, either on this Board or any other! And sorry I don't know about the mechanics of Boards and who is responsible for what. I have seen the mention of that light switch box before, but have never actually seen it. I assume that's the icon at the top left which says "BBCode Mode" when you put the cursor over it. I am about to make another post about gun control and will see if I can make it work.PS: Thanks Michael - it worked! Just out of interest, can you kindly explain in layman's terms what that light switch does and why it's no longer possible just to copy and paste without clicking on it?PPS: Thanks for the info on Fortaleza - a nice little bonus Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 If you enjoyed the Fortaleza article, try: Havana, Cuba http://www.boytoy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12719-rent-boy-paradise-the-boy-toy-guide-to-gay-havana/ Porto Alegre,Brazil http://www.boytoy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12667-the-boy-toy-guide-to-porto-alegre-brazil-home-to-the-best-money-boy-sauna-on-earth/ Tel Aviv, Israel http://www.boytoy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12835-gay-tel-aviv-where-nothing-is-uncut-a-boytoy-city-guide/ As for the "light switch" I think you only need to turn it one once and it stays to your default. I don't know much more about it and don't understand it fully, but I'll read up on what it does and the difference and report back to here. Quote

TotallyOz Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Now I have to find some way of getting to Havana next year! I hope you read that entire thread as the end of it some regular posts who have visited Cuba come into the thread and posted their experience. I agree with you that this is one place I want to visit and I wrote that article based on friends who have been there as I said in that thread. However, I have visited Porto Alegre and will be return in March and adding more photos and experiences. I know you have visited Brazil as well and like it there. I hope you watch for my photos as the boys there are hot as you can see from my friend Tomcal's post. 1 Would it be an idea to pin the light switch advice at the top of the forum for a few days? 2 The Boytoy rebranding & modified colour scheme works well. I'll work on getting some good advice on this for the site. Thanks for the comments on the re-branding and color modification. It is paying off well with traffic and new guys on the site daily. Quote

Secondly, if Cuba is subject to travel restrictions why isn't there a long list of other countries with similar restrictions? I think it has to do with the huge Cuban population we have in USA. But, I don't understand why either. I do know that most of my friends that travel there have to go to Mexico or Canada and travel there. Quote
