I'm all for the Take Care Charity and its good work. I do, however, think it's a cheap shot to post on several Boards the fact of a donation from another Board. And not just to post it, frankly, but to put it in bold face and italics seemingly just to ensure that everyone sees it. The implication, whether intended or not, is that now it's time for Gay Thailand and the other Boards to follow suit.

Sorry dale1, but your benefits for Platinum Sponsors do not mention a credit on Forum Boards.

Am I the only one who finds this posting of sponsors for the February 16 event on Forum Boards somewhat unnecessary? The point was made in the OP that sponsorship is being solicited and will be welcomed. I say again I'm all for Take Care's work. But of what value is it to the organisation to have Scott and Joey, Alan Brown, Bob Rosenthal and Anuchit Dongtar - to say nothing of Anonymous - mentioned here?

Sorry, but I just don't see the point!

Regardless of your intent, dale1, doing your thanks to another message board here comes across exactly as Michael has indicated above.  A bit tacky at best.

i have no intention of contribution to this sort of charity work.. we all know the damage not using a condom can cause, i dont need dear dale to tell me.

i also feel that it is my responsability to cover up if i am going to have sex with a hooker or anyone else for that reason ..

as a gay man i only have sex with other men .. i will never have a baby thru having sex with another man, and being as the only reason i can see to have sex without a condom is for the purpose of being a new life onto this earth, i will never have the need to go bare back.

And the tackiness continues, I'm sorry to note. Isn't this continual posting of credits to commercial enterprises some sort of advertising - and that is not permitted here? I know the enterprises themselves are not doing the advertising, but their cash contributions are enabling it.

Dale1 - this sort of thing tends to have the opposite effect on me. Although I fully support what your charity does, it makes me less and less inclined to make any contribution. There are plenty of other charities out there. My request is that you cease this advertising of the contributions you receive.

I'm sorry to say I don't think he's listening, FH.

Dale ignoring the comments you are receiving is at the very best rude.  Congratulation on being the only other person I have ever put on ignore on this board..  The last thing I need is to do is listen to anything you advocate for.  The message is good, but the messenger frankly sucks.

Not listening - perhaps. But he's been on-line daily and must have seen the way this thread has developed. The last log-on was 10:41 am today. So, why there has been no acknowledgement of the comments, I completely fail to understand. Perhaps he just fails to see the relevance of them - which would indeed be a pity. Every charity is totally dependant on goodwill for every Baht it can get. When the messenger spreads messages that engender the opposite feelings, something would seem to be wrong.

Dale has consistently posted the same messages on only those gay forums that are businesses (e.g. advertising, banners, etc.)  Some may not like his style but this is worthy cause and I have no problem recognizing the businesses and other sponsors of this event.

And in this Awards season, I wish to say thank you, thank you, thank you to Michael, Khortose, Rogie, Jovianmoon, thaiworthy and others too numerous to mention who voted for my posts. And special mention to my mother and father to whom I owe everything. Had they used one of Dale1's condoms, I would not be here to acknowledge this Award!

Seriously though, dale1 has been looking at posts on this Board at least twice since I made my post yesterday morning. Yet, he still clearly feels there is no need to respond and that any publicity is good publicity.

Sorry dale1, that's not the way it works in the charity business - and you of all people should know that. Heard of the 80/20 principle? One interpretation of this is that eighty % of your profits come from 20% of your customers. Conversely, piss off 20% of your constituents and you lose eighty % of the vote. In the case of a charity with a limited reach within the community, it seems to me nonsensical that you are pissing off a considerable number of gay thailand members (and probably also some readers), the very people who might make contributions to your charity.

By the way, can you kindly tell us the names and contact details of your Board members. And why is it that I can not find Take Care as a registered charity in Thailand - as the Pattaya Street Kids Project is registered?

TW: that post ranks at one of my all time favorite posts from any message board. Thank you for laughing so hard I almost broke my chair.

MANY THANKS!

Are all the condoms given out by Take Care donated to them? If not, what is the cost of purchase and warehousing? How much can a condom cost if bought in bulk? What are the costs for distribution? Where does all the advertising revenue and cash donations go to? TAKE CARE takes care of who?

Is it ever wrong to ask questions?

I have started a new thread related to this subject in the Beer Bar, called "Think Before You Donate."

No. It is never wrong to ask questions.

However, there are some that would rather you didn't ask possibly difficult questions, the answers to which might reveal uncomfortable truths. I cast no aspersions on Take Care!! here because I don't have any facts one way or the other, just questions. Like: Is it not ethically the responsibility of any charitable organisation to be 'open and accountable'?  If so then I think it is reasonable to expect answers to these questions:

Are all the condoms given out by Take Care donated to them? If not, what is the cost of purchase and warehousing? How much can a condom cost if bought in bulk? What are the costs for distribution? Where does all the advertising revenue and cash donations go to? TAKE CARE takes care of who?
