Guest fountainhall Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 So the world did not come to an end after all on Friday. Our planet has survived another "end of" scare. Thailand is still here. The bars, the cafes, the go-go bars, the discos, the saunas and so-on are still in business - although, judging from reports here, rather better business in Pattaya than in Bangkok. No doubt that will change, though, when a lot of the gay crowd from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and elsewhere descend on us for their extended Christmas and New Year breaks. And no doubt also that hoardes will throng the banks of the Chao Phraya for the fireworks as the New Year dawns, and Silom will be as packed as it always is that evening. Hopefully 2013 will bring better tidings for all: no floods or violence in our streets, stability in the economy, America's fiscal cliff avoided, Japan pulling itself out of its 20-year recession, politicians in Europe collectively seeing some sense, China's economy continuing to revive, the seeds of the Arab Spring beginning to take firmer root, and some of the bonhomie and spirit of togetherness that marked the London Olympics spreading out around the globe. Will it happen? Unlikely, I expect. But we can always hope. And in that spirit of hope, I wish all readers and posters a very Happy Christmas and peace, joy and much happiness in 2013. Quote
Guest timmberty Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 same to you FH ,, but i must take you up on your point of the world surviving another scare ... i never thought the world would end on friday as im sure most other people in the world didnt. just because a lot of highly respected well paid people have just the one brain cell between them does not mean what they say is true ... ive now read the next end of the world is in 2017 .. why didnt the 2017ers tell the 2012ers they didnt know what they where talking about ?? id imagine trying to disphyper a book that is thousands of years old isnt going to be so easy!! my own analogy on the end of the word is thus ,,, when you die the world ends !! thats all there is to it .. sure others go on ... but your own world ends .. unless you are a buddhist .. mind you if you are a really really bad buddhist you could come back as lmtu ... so thats the same as being dead. Guest fountainhall Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 i never thought the world would end on friday Nor did I. But it was a great excuse to down a few vodka martinis ive now read the next end of the world is in 2017 I'll make you little bet - 100 Baht? - that some religious nut or other will pronounce our doom well before then. 31-11-13 sounds a likely candidate, don't you think? Rogie Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 God rest ye merry, gentlemen Let nothing you dismay Remember, Christ, our Saviour Was born on Christmas day To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy O tidings of comfort and joy God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen was first published in 1833 when it appeared in "Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern," a collection of seasonal carols gathered by William B. Sandys. The lyrics of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen are traditional olde English and are reputed to date back to the 15th century although the author is unknown.. It is believed that this particular carol was sung to the gentry by town watchmen who earned additional money during the Christmas season. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen continues to be enjoyed. The lyrics to this simple carol are reputed to be one of the oldest carols. I'd like to wish all our members and readers on Gay Thailand a very Merry Christmas Quote
