Life of Pi

Recommended Posts

"A young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor ... a fearsome Bengal tiger.

Based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, is a magical adventure story centering on Pi Patel, the precocious son of a zoo keeper. Dwellers in Pondicherry, India, the family decides to move to Canada, hitching a ride on a huge freighter. After a shipwreck, Pi finds himself adrift in the Pacific Ocean on a 26-foot lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, all fighting for survival."

Having taken my two guys tonight to see this, I was in love with the beauty of the movie. It was magical and I just adored the movie. The cinematography is amazing. The characters are easy to fall into their story. I was happy to see Gérard Depardieu in the movie as I have not seen him in too much recently and I have great memories of him in earlier films.

I am a big fan of Ang Lee and have been waiting for this movie to come to Thailand. My sister saw it a few weeks back and told me to be sure to see it. I am so glad I did.

There is also large chunks of the movie where dialogue is not needed and thus the boys were very interested in the movie as well. They both said they liked it but they did ask lots of questions afterwards.

I thought the lead character, Suraj Sharma did a great job. I also loved seeing some familiar scenes from India and Montreal.

The movie is just great. Go and see it if you have a chance.

Thank you for letting us know your impressions Michael.

I enjoyed reading the book, but haven't seen the film.

Some people in the film industry reckoned it was un-filmable, so kudos to the director and his team for taking on the challenge and by all accounts making a great film.

Saw it and completely agree with Michael. I am sure it will garner an academy award nomination along with the three golden globe nominations it has already been nominated for Please no one who sees this should add any more information as I think it would spoil the movie. A MUST SEE.

Saw it yesterday with Khun Khortose and others and really enjoyed the movie. It's the first time I've ever been to a 3D movie and, while it's not all that important to the movie itself, I was fairly impressed right from the beginning with the technology.

One reason I went to the movie is I saw the trailer last week and thought, based on that trailer, that the cinematography would be superb. It definitely was and deserves at least an awards nomination for that alone. As Michael notes, the lead actor, Suraj Sharma, was also superb.

While I'm a big fan of some of the prior work of Gérard Depardieu, I thought his role (which, folks, is very minimal in this movie) and appearance only distracted from the originality and freshness of this movie.

On this I totally disagree. I needed to see him in order to visualize things at the end better. Without giving away too much detail on the movie, I am really glad this character was presented in the way he was.

I just called it and I should have known. It was a pie shop.

Yes, it is a pie shop, staffed by some of the cuter former go-go boys employed at Funny Boys.

At least one of the current gogo boys at Funny Boys has been frequently visiting the pie shop in the last 12 months too.

Great to have fellow Ang Lee's fans.

I have watched almost all his movies - including those from his pre-Hollywood days:
