Totally agree with Koko. The gogo bars don't get going until 9 or 10. So, enjoy a few beer bars and perhaps even get some food in the area so you can watch the foot traffic go by. I always enjoy that a great deal.

I like the food at Oud's Bar and they have a great pulled pork sandwich. There is also a restaurant down that same Soi, slightly past the old Monty's swimming pool and next to All of Me which my friends like and has a great view of the Plaza.

Most of all, go and just relax and as the area is low key and enjoyable. If you pick a boy or two to play pool in the area, you will also have a blast. Good luck and report back here and let us know what you think.

If you are American try Ouds beer bar.

Despite not being American, Ouds have welcomed my custom too.

You must be thinking of Le Bouchon. I think this is a great place with fabulous food and low prices. Yet I never hear of it mentioned as often as other places. It is clean, intimate and the waiters are very attentive.

simplest place to get off is oppersite the V.C. hotel .. its a minute walk from there .. straight down the side of the v.c. hotel .. you cant miss the plaza .. the bars are on the right hand side as soon as you pass the small supermarket tho i forgot if its a family mart or a 7-11 ... one or other anyhows ..

i always get off just by the fly over coming from jomtien then walk along the big main road and turn in from the other end .. i get a bit bored sitting on the baht bus for the last 10 minutes going nowhere .. so prefer a 10 minute walk.

As for etiquette in the beer bars; just sit and order a drink. Maybe a boy will sit or visit your table and chat. If interested buy him a drink but if not just be pleasant but don't encourage him. If you see someone you like that is "working" then ask him to take a drink with you.

Agree with timmberty that best place to get off baht-bus is at VC Hotel. Unless you are familiar with the area you could wander in squares. Even in the Plaza itself I sometimes take the wrong turn (after a few too many drinks) as is the same case in Jomtien Complex which is a complex. Looking forward to your impressions.

Ouds Beer Bar is one place where either Oud or Jack & Ralph will likely make contact with you. Also in Ducs. Some of the other beer bar owners may/may not be as gregarious. And don't be shy to say hello to the owner if he is there; just introduce yourself and say Good Evening, Hi, Howdy, Bonsoir, Guten Abend, G'day, etc although "What's Up Doc" might not work unless you meet and greet Fountainhall.

In which case you might end up with a carrot juice on me! :startle:
