Guest Devint6669 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Hey! I got an idea I want to try can I find a way to travel for less the 1500 THB a day. It might be impossible but we will try. The first thing I had to do was find the city I wanted to visit. I currently live in Chiang Mai and I decided to go Pattaya, because in the past I lived there and I have good memories. The bus from Chiang Mai to Bangkok is 10 hours and costs 359 baht. Depending on the schedule you may get a bus to Pattaya like I did in 45 minutes and continue the 2 1/2 hour journey to Pattaya. This Bus is 139 baht so for about 500 baht you can go from one side of the country to the other. How cool is that? When I arrived Pattaya, I had my Back Pack and I jumped in the first Baht-Bus that was waiting for me and told him that I wanted to Central Festival (Big Mall) and he told me that will cost me 20THB this is more or less the center of the city and a good place to look for a room. I walked for about 25min going guesthouse to hotel… and I found this guesthouse on a little street Soi 11 On Pattaya Road2. The name of this Guesthouse was New Star when you look down the street you will see it for sure If you don’t see it just ask one of the motorbike driver he will try to say get on his bike but you must say no I want to walk, then he probably will help you. You are in Thailand and the people are very helpful if you are patient. It is one of many reasons I like the country so much. Now that you found the guesthouse you will see at the counter a list of prices. Starting from 250 To 550 the room are nice but not special. It is a room that you use for sex or sleep nothing much more then that. I had a TV, air conditioner, hot water, and they change your bed and towel with some soap. The basic stuff that you need in your life is provided for you. The room that I choose was 550 a night but I had to make a deposit for the key, don’t worry they will give your money back when you leave. The rooms have no safes but at the reception there will let you rent a box that there will keep under a lock that only you have the key. For this they will charge 500THB for the deposit but again don’t worry you will get your money back after you have finished using for your stay in Pattaya. So this means not counting deposits you have spent about 1249 baht. Your next day in Pattaya can cost you much less because you will have no bus fares. There are little food stalls all over where you can get a nice meal such as chicken and rice or shrimp and rice for 50 baht. You can buy a beer in 7/11 for 35 baht. You see it easy to live for less then 1500 a day if you are careful. It is good for young men that want to see this part of the country and it makes it very inexpensive for backpackers or those on a low budge. Have a real adventure and see Thailand for a little money and great experience. Below I have included photos to give you some idea what I am talking about. I’ll try to find more things to do like this in the future. I hope you enjoyed my post and will watch out on this board for the next one. Have a nice day! Devint6669 350 Gov. Bus 129 Gov. Guest fountainhall Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Very interesting post. Thank you! So if you take the key deposit out of the equation (since you'll get the cash back) and amortise the bus fares over several days, we can assume that basic costs are in fact less than Bt. 800 per day, leaving quite a bit for food, drinks, entertainment and a Baht bus or two. Rogie Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Good to hear about somewhere a bit different. New Star looks ok. I could be wrong but I would imagine all the usual places we hear about are full coming up to Christmas and New Year. Is it noisy around there? Lots happening, that's what I mean. I prefer to stay in Jomtien. Last place I stayed I walked out of the guest house, turned left for about 15 yards, crossed the road and in few more yards i was on the beach with a choice of deck chair concessions - I plopped myself down on one no more than a few feet away from the sea. Being a cheap charlie I took my own water so for 30 baht I had a few hours relaxing. Watch out for the sun, btw, even though I was under (or thought I was) an umbrella my feet, legs and chest were redder than I would have liked by the time I got back to my hotel room. Assuming you aren't averse to the beach, see how much you spend on a day there khun Devint. Maybe you will decide to opt for a massage or one of the other services offered. Quote
Guest timmberty Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 the main problem with the living for 1500 baht is most people will be coming from a different country rather than inside thailand ... my i ask why you keep on advertising businesses .. ive seen 3 of your 5 posts so far and each has advertised something !! i know places that cost less than 200 baht a night to stay in ... ive visited a few boys rooms in pattaya .. so it can cost a lot less than the place you mention ... Guest thaiworthy Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Devin, you are quite the adventurer. Is that last photo a shot of you? If so, nice ass! If it is not you, and you were taking a picture of the guest house, then maybe the man accidentally stepped into frame. Don't tell Bob! 555 http://www.gaythaila...obes-incidents/ Quote

Once people come to Thailand and stay a while, they want to do day trips. This was what he was referring to. 2. I didn't see advertising of businesses but telling others where he likes to hang out and stay when in Pattaya. It is not only welcomed here, it is needed. We always appreciated when people share places they like. That is what the site is about: Sharing Information 3. Staying in a decent place for 350-500 baht a night seems pretty cheap to me. If you do it for 200 bath less, please share with us specifics. Quote

Stop teasing me... yes, that's me and "you really like me?" Pattaya is slightly more expensive (for tourists) than other rural regions in Thailand. My last trip there was in 2009 and I stayed at one of the Sawadee places - simple room with breakfast. I just have a check with my travel agent and he told me that there is an inexpensive air ticket to Bangkok on this coming Sunday, 23th Dec. The catch is that there is no cheap return ticket back to Singapore till early Jan 2013...Should I take it? I can be in Bangkok for the first 2 nights before shifting my weight over to Pattaya.. anyone to let me sleep in their couch? PM me, please! Quote

Hey Khun Rogie You ask me question About the noise, i woud say that most of the night the sound was ok. But i'm a deep sleeper i don't know if i a good reference for that, but i remenber one night it was realy bad but most night was ok If you got more question ask me... There don't have a website this mean that there shoud not be full for christmas and new year! Devint6669 Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 NO more like a 1000 thb if you look rite. That is for one day/night, I assume. So if you were in Pattaya for more than 1 night, then the bus costs would be split over 2 or more nights and would bring the daily cost down. That is what I was trying to suggest. I hope I have that right. Quote
Guest abang Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Yes i am definitely heading for Pattaya on Boxing Day. Perhaps I can turn up in a box and hmm.. who is that lucky (or unfortunate) guy to unwrap me? Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Haha! No, I am just trying out the new emoticons on the Board. The first is baring a bum - rather similar to your avatar. The second is 'cheers' with a couple of pints of beer being raised. Or at least I think that is what it is! I'll send you a pm. Quote
Rogie Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 The second is 'cheers' with a couple of pints of beer being raised. Or at least I think that is what it is! I think so too. Taking it to perhaps a ridiculous extreme, I have been trying to lip-read the guy on the left. They chink glasses then he says something 6 times and that's it. Could the inspiration for these two chaps be a typical scene in a German or Belgian bierkeller? They're blissfully happy whatever it is. Here they are again! Quote

ChristianPFC Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 The catch is that there is no cheap return ticket back to Singapore till early Jan 2013...Should I take it? Did you consider going by train (there is train service from Bangkok to Singapore), in the sense of the original post? Thanks to the op for sharing. I spend on average about 2400 Baht per day when I am in Thailand for holiday (if you take out bars and moneyboysI might reach 1500 - but the purpose of my holiday is not to safe money, but to have fun). I use public transport a lot, eat mainly Thai food (often on the street) and stay in cheap hotels (not more than 800 Baht per night). Quote
Rogie Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Did you consider going by train (there is train service from Bangkok to Singapore), in the sense of the original post? There was some discussion on train travel in the Taiwan's Gastronomic Delights thread. Here is the link: http://www.gaythaila...hts/#entry61865 and here is another copy of the link mentioned in that thread: http://www.seat61.co...tm#.UNouYKyVqSp Quote

If that's the case then, the difference between 2400 and 1500 is only 900 baht. This is the amount you've stated you'd save if you didn't spend money in bars or on moneyboys. If 900 baht translates to having fun, as you mentioned, I don't see how the math figures for these costs, since a moneyboy and drinks in a bar can run a lot more! How much fun is 900 baht? Not much as far as I can tell, e.g. 1000 tip, 300 off fee, 1 drink for you 160, 1 drink for boy 160 = 1,620 minimum. Even if you tip the boy 500 baht, you've still missed the 900 baht mark. How do you figure the math? Moreover, how do find boys willing to do even short time from a bar at 500 baht each? Quote

My guess is the 900 baht a day budget works out just fine if the bar visits are made every other day. Alternatively, 900 almost covers a short time tip for a boy on Gay Romeo. As for a third theory, I think Christian might be a bit younger than some of us and might not always be paying for it. As for accommodation, I've always found quality drops off to an unacceptable level if paying significantly less than 1000 baht. Even some popular gay guesthouses in that price range have housekeeping standards that leave a lot to be desired. So I budget over 1000 a night. However, I suppose this might improve if you're prepared to spend time checking out a few hotels to find a good one at a bargain price. Or rent an apartment for several weeks. Quote
Guest abang Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 i am now in pattaya...in a room that has airconditoning, lcd tv, fridge ....all for 700thb. this is much cheaper than a tiny room in pattayland...ok, my room is nearer to royal garden... thb 900 is quite impossible.. Quote

Christian indeed is more than a bit younger than many of us; whether he gets freebies is something for him to reveal. Quote
