Rogie Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Also, the Vietnamese are known for being a lot more assertive and pushy than people in other parts of SE Asia. I've only visited Vietnam once, but as far as my interactions with the general public were concerned I did notice there was a higher incidence of pushy-ness (I don't know if they have any go-go bars there, I haven't heard of any), but the vast majority of Vietnamese I met were very pleasant. It would be interesting to know what kind of dialogue there is between the management / mamasans of a go-go bar and their foreign boys - Vietmanese, Burmese, Lao etc. I think most if not all Thais can understand Lao, but as for Burmese and Vietnamese I have no idea. However, assuming a Thai person has difficulty understanding a Vietnamese person, and vice versa, one could understand the message may not get through to the boy that the usual system in Thai go-go bars is the 'up to you' policy where the customer is the one who makes the final decision regarding payment. All being well the boy will accept the money, wai you and be on his way - if it so happens the money given falls below his expectation, to argue or sulk would be a loss of face. Quite likely IMO the Thai way of doing things is too subtle for an outsider eg, a Vietnamese, trying to play the same game. Quote
Guest Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 The Vientamese guy I briefly met was talking to the mamasan in Thai, so he had obviously learnt a few words somewhere. Bangkok boys sometimes ask for more money even if their tip is already 1500 for (very) short time, so I guess a Vietnamese interpretation on that would be to push quite hard for more money. Quote
ChristianPFC Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 The Vietnamese boy I had spoke limited English, his spoken Thai was good, but he said he can't read and write Thai. One could argue that these boys come from Vietnam, which incurs some additional costs for visa runs (leave alone working without work permit, and in addition prostitution), so their tips should be higher, but then I come all the way from Europe, which incurs high costs for travelling, so I should get a discount. TotallyOz Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I was at Funny Boys again tonight and they had more new boys. There were many with ripped abs and very masculine. I love that all my friends can go to one bar and we all have such different tastes and yet we all find what we are looking for. Great atmosphere and great looking guys! There is a reason that Funny Boys and Toyboy are the best gogo bars in Pattaya! vinapu 1 Quote
Guest Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Last night I visited Superstar Boys. Great fun, with 2 very cute boys fooling around on stage and brightening up the whole bar. Asked the older looking one of the 2 to sit with me & he was again great fun, but only wanted to do short time. Cupidol -Average Vasa Boys -As reported previously a nice little bar, with some fun. However, they had 2 patrons smoking, so I informed the mamasan that some customers don't like smoking in bars and left, moving on to a smoke free Funny Boys. I was at Funny Boys again tonight and they had more new boys. Last year Funny Boys had about 6~10 boys who I would rank as exceptionally cute, which probably made that the best selection of boys I have ever seen in a bar. I could have gone there every night. This year there is just one who I would describe as exceptionally cute and they have a variety of other styles of boy. The previous night, I also revisited Toy Boys. This probably has more boys than any other bar in Pattaya. I eventually spotted one who was perfect and making eye contact and smiling. I waved him over, then he sits next to me chatting in rather good English, but looking at the far wall the whole time, rather than making eye contact. The body language was telling me something, so eventually I tipped him and he looked at me, smiled and said "tonight I go party". So that's what he really wanted to do. The best gogo bars in Pattaya? So far I would say: Funny Boys, Toy Boys, Vasa, Superstar, in no particular order. Quote

Free market at work. Some enterprising guys if they sniff client is new to Thailand and bar scene are trying to extract as much as they can get away with. I personally don't see anything wrong with that. We take for granted that everybody is well informed but not always is a case. Truth is , some people coming for first time is doing proper research of what to expect, bar tips included. So some people don't have a clue and it goes both ways. Some are overpaying because smarties are asking them to , some are surprised that bar fee did not cover everything and they are supposed to pay tip to girl or boy. It's why card with tip indicated as in Vassa bar is a good idea. Not everybody underpaying is a cheap Charlie, some simply don't know. On personal note, when first time there , in 2001 I arrived well researched with on exception- somehow did not picked up that is short time and long time tip. So tipped my first guy long time rate after short time meeting. Good bye kiss I received was by far longest in my life so I smell something went wrong but it was 1000 baht too late. Quote
