TotallyOz Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Frankly, I know most of you simply don't give a damn. But, I love Gone with the Wind. I love it so much, I had photos of Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'Hara in my bedroom as a child. (I would also tell you about my Madam Alexander Gone with the Wind Doll collection but that might be sharing too much info) I still remember growing up and watching this movie every year with my family. My mother never missed it. And, it took over our TV set for a few nights every year. Last night I saw this was on one of our movie channels and I asked the boys if they would watch it with me. They did. They laughed at times and esp. when Scarlet would do something incredibly stupid. They asked lots of questions about the time frame and the war. All in all a good experience. I am sure that only 30 percent of the audience last night really loved it. But, the other 2/3's at least watched and seem to be mildly interested. I wanted to show them a bit of America that I grew up with and watching this movie was a good bonding experience. Much better than watching Freddy Kruger or one of the other nutty movies I also grew up with. Quote
Up2u Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Can you get GWTW with Thai subtitles? It's my all time favorite too. TotallyOz 1 Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 11, 2012 Author Posted December 11, 2012 Can you get GWTW with Thai subtitles? It's my all time favorite too. It is on UBC this week WITH Thai subtitles! Quote
Guest jomtien Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Michael, you young pup! When I was a child GWTW hadn't been licensed to television yet. It came around to the local second-run movie house each year for a few nights. It was like a pilgrimage for my mother and her sisters. I was included when I was deemed old enough! It was the era of second-run theatres giving away dinnerware to regular attendees......one plate each week. I still have mom's desert plates and cup/saucers. The movie should translate well into Thai. Let's face it, Prissy was a civil war era ladyboy if ever there was one! Thanks for the post Michael....you have triggered some wonderful family memories for me! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I suppose I must be one of the few who have never seen GWTW! Quote
Guest anonone Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 No fountainhall....you are not alone. I saw the Carol Burnet spoof with the dress made from drapery...does that count? Quote
kokopelli Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 No FH, you are not the only one although I have seen it multiple times and it is a classic. But I have a American friend who has not yet seen it even though he is 50 yo. That spoof with Carol Burnett wearing the draperies as a dress was a classic; "It's just something I saw in the window and just had to have it". For those of you who have not see GWTW the heroine, Scarlett, had the draperies made into a dress to impress Rhett/Clark Gable. Quote
Guest timmberty Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 ive seen bots of it .. never the whole thing all the way thru .. michael i have this impression of you in my head now .. walking down the road as a young man wearing a big gown .. i need a beer !!! Quote
kokopelli Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 The resemblance between Michael and Aunt Pittypat is quite remarkable. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Aunt Pittypat is missing the tattoo on her neck, but otherwise an exact match. I usually don't buy blue rays or dvds anymore. I download from iTunes. But I am having a very difficult time merging the .sst (Thai subtitle file) because you can't re-render an iTunes movie because of the protection scheme. I know there is a way, but I'm not finding it. I would love to be able to show the bf the movies I like, including GWTW. I haven't been real motivated because I can do this with a dvd, but I want to do it with HD 1080p. I'm not sure he'll even want to read the subtitles! Michael, what did you do? Do your boys just listen to the audio in English or do they read a subtitle? If they understand the English, in any movie, you are lucky! Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 My boys understand English but they always read the subtitles. They seem to get the jokes fast but the long dialogue, they seem to read it all. Quote
